In a class of around thirty, each one of them seemed to be paying attention and some appeared to be taking notes. The teacher wrote on the greenboard with white chalk.
Of all the students in the room, only one of them stood out. She was sitting on the middle column on the front row. Next to her on the right and left were two girls. What made her stand out was that ever since the teacher got into the classroom, she had raised her head only once.
Since then, she had been engrossed in the book she was reading. The book was almost ten centimeters thick. One paying attention to her, they would see her nod every now and then.
Not because she heard what the teacher said but because of what she was reading. The teacher kept sending her glances but she did not seem to meet them. This continued for one hour and the teacher had been tired of being snobbed.
At least, if she was sitting on the back row, she would not have been riled up much but, the girl was sitting on the front row and had not looked at the board even once. She decided to implement the plan she had prepared for the past one hour.
Mia was so engrossed in her reading that she even forgot about the class that was going on. The amount of knowledge she had acquired was top notch. Though, she could still not connect any dots yet. It seemed she had to finish this book first.
She was learning about the history of the planet but none said anything about where all those who lived there went. But what she read next shook her to the core.
" A disaster befell the planet wiping every person in the planet. The disaster was of great earthquakes of high magnitudes and fires that seemed to fall from space. These meteorites burned the planet's inhabitants.
" Other than fire, dangerous incurable viruses inflicted the survivors such that there was no one left. The planet was a miracle planet where after all its inhabitants were destroyed, a massive flood befell the planet.
"The flood led to the flattening of the craters and formed rivers and lakes and then oceans..." She stopped after she felt a tap on her left shoulder. She looked up and found all eyes on her.
She did not even know that the teacher had called her name three times. One could wonder how these teachers knew the students by name and they had just been here for less than a week but the answer was simple.
Each teacher was given eye lenses. These lenses were like mini computers. They were fitted with details of every student in the faction. Such that, the lenses would scan one's face and the name would appear on the screen.
This was something the students did not know. The teacher glared at her gently. She had asked a question and it was even written on the board. She had called Mia three times but it was like she had been cut of from the rest of the world.
She had thought her plan was going to fail but when she saw how the girl tensed up when she met their eyes, she knew this was her chance. She got away from the board and the question was clear for her to see.
" Describe the instance where time factor was brought into consideration when conquering planets. Give detailed explanations."
This was one of the topics she had touched on thirty minutes ago when Mia was so engrossed in her reading. Mia smiled when she saw the question. One could think of it as a helpless smile.
Some atudents could be seen opening their notes to where they had written about this topic. The teacher seeing her smile saw it as a helpless smile and saw her chance to reprimand the teen.
"Its better to pay attention to these lessons. They will account to the final test you will undertake after one year. Doing irrelevant things during classes should..." She was cut off. She was irritated that she wanted to rash out.
How she became riled up so easily by this girl was out of her reasoning.
" I know the answer," Mia said with the same smile.
" You should stop cutting off your teachers when they are giv..." The teacher paused like she had just registered what Mia had said.
This just helped rile her up. Though she slightly blushed but hid her embarasment quickly.
"Tell us what the answer is, Mia," she said.
Mia's smiled flckered. She did not like how the teacher kept calling her name.
"Time factor was usually not considered before until one day when a number of elites were sent to explore a planet but came back ten years later. It should be noted that time might flow differently in different planets.
"Some planet have their time accelerated where a few years in the planet could be a second in the real timeline. In this case study, the elites claimed to have been gone for only ten minutes but when they came back, they found out that it had been ten years in the real timeline.
" To conquer a planet, time..." Mia was cut off. She looked at the teacher who seemed to be boiling in rage. She clenched her hands tightly and quickly erased the question from the board.
Mia's reply was spot on. It was even more detailed than she had taught. She did not even speak of the topic again. She felt she had lost face when the other students started clapping. There was no way she was going to remain silent about this. She needed to turn it to her favour
"If you ever have problems in your studies, I advice you to come to Mia here, she has proved to be pretty knowledgeable. I am making her the monitor for my class," she said with a smile.
The stidents clapped even louder. Mia did not quite understand how it had turmed out that she was made the monitor. She was already garnering attention when she did not even want to. She sighed and realized the teacher's ploy.
Being the monitor placed her on the pedestal such that she had to attend all these classes and work as the teacher's eyes thus she had to pay attention. She folded the page she had been reading and closed the book.
She then placed it back into the backpack. It was the only one there together with few exercise books. She drew one out and stared at the board. She wrote the topic and started paying attention. The teacher had a self appreciating smile. Very proud of her small victory.
Mia hoped she would get back on her one day. The class continued. She kept writing what she already knew and the class was too easy for her. Even after the three hours lesson ended, she was just bored but not tired.
The teacher had been using her as a means of reference and this helped in garnering more attention for her. She sighed finally after the class ended. Luckily, she was going to see this teacher again the following week.
She was left laying her head on the desk on the exercise book. The pen between her teeth though she did not chew it. She closed her eyes and waited for everyone to leave.
After a while, she opened her eyes and stretched. Her chest bulging forward her breast pressing on the dress. Anyone observant could realize she had no brassiere. But not many dared to look at a beauty in these sections.
Those who did could only do it from afar and they would not note it easily. She turned to look on the left and she almost jumped from her seat. She actually jumped and stood up quickly. On the seat on the left was Raven. She had felt her heart stop for a second.
Her face was horror stricken but it turned angry. She had her hands on her chest confirming that her heart was still beating. She took her seat and glared at the laughing Raven.
Sensing her gaze, he stopped himself and looked away but he had gotten his chance to strike a conversation.
"Is my face scary to you that you almost died of a heart attack seeing me?" He asked stopping himself from laughing.
"Do you want the real answer or the one you want to hear?" She asked and Raven had an ominous premonition.
"Tell me the one I want to hear first," he said.
"You probably think that this is a good chance to have a conversation with me but you should know that I don't need anyone to get close to me. So please stay away from me," she replied casually. She was trying as hard as she could to act mean.
She really did not want to get closer to anyone. She did also not want friends. Raven had his jaws dropped. Was this really the answer he wanted to hear? What he wanted was for her to accept his advances...
" What about the real answer?" He asked. He felt like he was asking for more roasting.
"The real answer is that you are not even close to my standards. In my books, you are too low in my ratings such that I have to force myself to give you a glance. That is why when I saw your low standards, it felt like my soul left my body," she said in a dismissive tone.
Raven felt like his heart was being ground with broken pieces of grass. Was that the real reason? Just how high were her standards? He came from one of the richest families yet he did not reach her standards?
Was it possible that she could not bear to look at him that she jumped off when she saw him? He needed to know just what her standards were.
"Then what are your standards?" He asked.
"I don't have have to tell you. Only the one who meets the standards naturally and not by pretense is worthy of me. If I tell you my standards and ideal type, you will start acting infront of me trying to please me to reach my standards.
" A real man who maintains his true values and intentions might meet my standards. A man who is true to himself. And that man, does not exist to begin with," she said and stood up. She left under the astonished gaze of Raven.
