Chapter 5

.
While I was stunned by the big room, it occurred to me that the Dome was not an above-ground structure, but a subterranean one. Of course there was a lot of empty land above ground, but the technological parts of the dome went underground.
It was all about protecting the students.
Places like this took up the entire city of Astor underground.
And it wasn't just big.
The variety of weapons in front of everyone left me speechless. From nunchucks to broadswords. From rapiers. Short daggers. All sorts of weapons were on display before us, neatly arranged according to size.
To be honest, I was impressed with myself. It should have been a crime to have abandoned a novel with so much potential. There were so many weapons that I couldn't even understand what some of them were, and I wasn't sure if it was due to my ignorance.
There were a few weapons that I knew about and the main characters had taken them.
"I would be very careful if I were you. If you damage any of the weapons available, you better be prepared to pay up to U50,000."
{U= the international unit of credi}.
50,000 U is the price of a small car where I come from, considering the exchange rate in my book.
Now .....
I guess I didn't think I could afford it in this size.
Looking at the excited expressions of the students in the class, Madame Esther immediately threw cold water on them by showing them the price of each weapon.
Some of the students couldn't help but wince as they began to look at the weapons as if they were some kind of divine artifact.
"I assume that most of you know what mana type you have from middle school, so buy a weapon that suits your mana type and train with it."
"I suggest you use a weapon that suits you, so you don't risk damaging it. Experimentation is good, but only if you can afford it. Also. Once you have chosen your main weapon, you will not be able to switch for at least 6 months."
Looking at the 50 or so students in front of her, Ester smiled gleefully.
She is a sadist.... Seriously.
One by one my good opinion of him was being erased.
Ester continued.
"Before you get a weapon, register your name in the database by scanning your student card. Then get your weapon and meet me at the main practice area."
And remember
"You cannot easily change the main weapon you choose today. No matter which one you choose, you will all go through the same tests and training. This means that the weaknesses of a weapon are your responsibility. Prepare yourself for that."
Having finished what she wanted to say, Esther turned and left.
As soon as her figure disappeared, everyone started talking excitedly. Especially the men.
"Wow, was that the famous Mist Witch?"
"She's so hot!"
"Oh my God, I think I'm in love."
"I definitely need his signature before the end of first grade."
In my heart.
"Dude, she may look like she's 20, but she's almost 40, get over yourself!"
As the lowest ranking member, I was clearly excluded from them and to be honest, that's exactly what I wanted.
the academy was dominated by a hierarchical system.
Just like the relationship between a peasant and a nobleman. Only those of higher rank were entitled to be treated as nobles. Low-ranking people like me were the ones who would later become fish food when fighting on the front lines.
As the lowest rank in the class, this was my life now.
I had been an orphan in my former life and had been through this sort of thing many times, so it was a waste of time trying to destroy this formality of the Dome. It was not my task, but that of Arthur White, who was with me.
"But what is my mana type...?"
This question struck me like a bolt of lightning and ruined all my plans.
In the story, Vayne had bought a long one-handed sword. Since Vayne's mana type was 'emitter', the sword was not the best weapon.
A 'spreader' type of mage is a mage who spreads mana around to gain a large amount of advantage. From those with a predisposition for complex spells such as healing spells to high impact area spells, all are cast by spreaders.
The main characters Sofia and Estelle were both emitters.
In general, if you have a 'booster or specialist' type of mana, melee-oriented weapons will serve you well.
The number one weapon for a spreader is either a mana staff or a spell book.
But using these two requires a lot of mana capacity. I knew I didn't have that right now.
Vayne was never a powerful villain with mana capacity, his only specialty was the fire aspect of his mana.
A sword would of course be efficient enough with this feature, but in this world I came from as Vayne, I had 0 experience in using a sword.
I looked at the different implements of war and decided what I needed to use in the Dome for the moment.
A thin voice echoed as I swiped my card into the system.
==========
Student Vayne Salas: do you choose Gun 1.5?
==========
[Yes]
I pressed the button shown to me
I had chosen a pistol.
Firearms were still excellent weapons in this world, but they were only used by ordinary soldiers who could not use mana.
Instead of traditional bullets, this world used magic bullets with compressed mana that could kill low or medium monsters.
Of course, as the caliber increased, the chance of killing monsters increased, but the amount of mana a bullet could hold was set.
It could never be compared to someone like Arthur, who had a 'booster' type of mana.
But here came Vayne's special case.
A bullet that melts mana.
Even a small bullet could cause serious damage.
It would allow me to damage even high-ranking heroes.
Unless one examined the tissue at the entry point of the bullet very carefully, no one would know that his mana had been incinerated, and that would give me a degree of anonymity.
Just a glorious shot.
But magicians and mercenaries with magic power never choose a mana weapon because magic power cannot be applied to it.
Their large mana shields are unlikely to be pierced by a bullet.
The power of a weapon will be inherently limited, no matter how powerful the user.
As a result, I wanted to buy a weapon that I was relatively familiar with and that I could use unobtrusively in the Dome. It was easy to use and compatible with my skills.
I quickly left the room, taking the weapon with me.
The students who saw me kept whispering. They should have been too quiet for me to hear, but I could hear them clearly.
"How useless."
"A gun? Is this guy crazy?"
"Why did he come to the Dome if he wants to be a mercenary?"
The students here went to mage academies from the age of 7 or 8. So they had practiced with their own weapons for almost 10 years. From the very beginning, they had trained with mana-type weapons, and it made no sense for them to throw all that experience away with a single move.
It was already clearly written on my entrance card that I was a swordsman.
In the main story Vayne was a swordsman. Her skills were not as good as Arthur's, nor did she swing her sword as flawlessly as Sofia.
Everyone was surprised, but they would forget in a day or two.
If I had a sword, I don't know what I could do with this weak body, and Madame Ester would have watched me alone at the slightest slip.
It's better this way.
Since I had everything I wanted, I made my way to the training ground.
When I arrived at the training ground, I was greeted by a large and wide field.
The entire training facility was the size of two soccer fields.
In the upper right corner of the training field was a shooting range divided into five different distances ranging from 100 meters to 500 meters.
More than a dozen training dummies appeared on the lower right side of the training field, perfect for close combat training.
The training dummies were made of an extremely hard metal that could withstand even the impact of a C-class mage.
With its extremely durable body, students could train against them without worrying about breaking the dummies.
The central area of the training facility was empty for everyone, meaning there was nothing in it.
It was only used mainly for practicing movements or footwork.
Basically, it was an area that everyone could use to practice whatever technique they wanted to practice.
On the top left, there was a big gym, fully equipped with top of the line equipment, and what's more, and most importantly, there was a gravity chamber that went up to 10G. The pressure on you was increasing and you were training.
With the gravity chamber, a person could train and tinker with their body with the help of the chamber that could increase the gravitational force on them.
Finally, a large fifty meter long swimming pool appeared in front of me on the lower left side of the training ground.
The swimming pool was one of the most frequented places, as it was extremely useful for conditioning training and the special medicinal substances added to the water helped the muscles recover from fatigue more quickly.
"Alright, as I said before, it's your first day, so there's no need to push yourself. I will be here to supervise you all."
Everyone's attention gathering Ester smiled happily as she looked around the training area.
"Now go and train! Time waits for no one."
At her command, everyone moved instantly. Some went straight to the mannequins, while others went to the shooting range.
