Chapter 39 - Surprise (1)

After selling the jewels, they received 3000 gold coins, which they exchanged for Rados. They completed their transactions at the bank and then left to head towards the Crimson Knight barracks.

"Kaylessa, let's make the most of our time. I will go to the barracks to pay the soldiers. Can you please buy more arrows for me? Lau, you can join Kay in exploring the city for a while. All I want to do is wait for you all at the dorm, and please buy some food for me."

The girls agreed silently, and Kay handed her 5,000 Rados to cover the soldier's payment before going their separate paths.

Kay guided Lau through the city as they made their way to the area with the blacksmiths. During their walk, they stumbled upon the location of the restaurant.

"Hey Lau, I'm giving you this money. Please pick out food for us to eat. After you're finished, wait for me by the restaurant entrance. I'll meet you there after I buy the arrows."

Lau happily accepted the money and went off to find a restaurant with food Kay would enjoy, while Kay went in the direction of the blacksmiths.

A massive flying creature, as big as to block out the sun, resembling a stingray and carrying numerous eggs similar to those the Hive Kay had recently defeated, lurked not far from the frontlines.

At the top, there was a small female shadow figure with long black hair and no face. She also had 8 spider-like legs coming out of her back.

The soldiers on the front lines had no knowledge of the approaching enemy; it was just a regular day with no special alerts, and the waves created by the dormant Titan only occurred once a month, so they felt a bit at ease.

It was just an ordinary day for them, following their usual routine in their familiar surroundings, when, out of the blue, a massive creature materialized above the city, nearly engulfing it with its enormous body. Without warning, a barrage of black laser beams began to blast from various angles, striking both the city below and the hovering mountains before anyone could even process what was happening.

The stingray attacks quickly destroyed the strong walls as if they were made of sand. The prosperous and proud city, which had successfully defended itself against the nightmare creatures for years, was now on fire.

The intense bombing went on for what seemed like a long time. The city was destroyed, and the floating mountains had crumbled to the ground. Only the main floating mountain with the big white tower remained standing, protected by a barrier that was activated when the attacks began.

The view from beneath the city showed complete devastation, with both soldiers and civilians lying dead everywhere. Gender and age didn't matter, as death came to everyone equally. However, the worst was still to come.

After the deadly beams had passed, large black spheres dropped from the sky and landed on the ruined city. A child standing near one of the balls witnessed it sprout 4 legs and stand upright.

He then noticed that holes were appearing in the ball, and a large number of ghouls were emerging and running in various directions, with many heading towards the child.

The child was on the brink of facing the unavoidable, and at that precise moment, a crimson warrior with only one hand, his armor in tatters, and his helmet split in half, stood in front of the child.

Even without any weapons, he bravely stood his ground like a legendary hero. The ghouls attempted to attack him with their sharp claws, but he stood strong and defiant, using his remaining hand to strike them in the face and send them flying.

The crimson warrior's body emitted a red aura, and at that moment, the kid realized that he was General Benedict!, one of the city's generals.

When the bombing began, a laser beam landed close to Kay, causing her to be thrown from the impact and lose consciousness. When she regained consciousness, she was covered in injuries, and blood mixed with electricity was seeping from her body.

Her head was pounding and her vision was blurry, but she could see a purple barrier of light surrounding her. She was aware that it was her mother's doing, and it was likely what was keeping her alive.

She attempted to get up, but a sharp pain in her ribs caused her to fall back down. It is likely that she broke some of her ribs, so she paused to regain her vision before bracing herself for the pain and standing up again.

She witnessed a terrifying scene straight out of a nightmare: a multitude of bodies scattered across the city, once inhabited by the lively residents. With each step she took, her pain increased, yet she persevered in her search for Lau and Ay, determined to locate them no matter the obstacles.

At that moment, she witnessed General Benedict standing by himself, shielding a frightened child who couldn't muster the courage to flee, tears welling up in his eyes. Benedict was visibly hurt and encircled by numerous ghouls that were salvagely assaulting him.

Kay drew her knife, and it transformed into a dark spear. When she unleashed her ability [Fury], a surge of anger overcame her, causing red lightning to emanate from her as she rushed to assist Benedict.

The scared child wanted a god that he wasn't even sure existed to help the general, who was close to death. There were terrifying creatures in front of him, but as a child, he couldn't do anything to help. Tears of blood filled his eyes as he felt remorse for his own weakness.

Suddenly, he witnessed two fighters resembling lightning emerging to assist the commander, followed by a wounded woman with lengthy white and red hair adorned with crimson lighting standing before him. Upon seeing her, he immediately believed she was the divine being he had been praying for. The faith in that young child's heart would have a significant impact on the future to come.
