Shortly after, a large group of ghouls began running towards the area where the Ayaka team was. Without hesitation, Ay began shooting at the creatures, causing them to fall down when they tried to climb up due to the speed and weight of the arrow, which sent the ghouls crashing hard and taking some other ghouls that were behind it together.
However, there were too many ghouls, and eventually they began to approach the windows to enter the building. The warriors with Ay prevented them from coming in and attempted to push them back down.
In the distance, a loud blast was heard, followed by an explosion close to the creatures that went off at unpredictable times while still causing significant harm. Ay could see that it was a metal vehicle shooting explosives at the ghouls.
Ten dwarf soldiers with a new weapon Ayaka had never seen before emerged from behind the metal vehicle and moved forward. When the ghouls attacked, the dwarfs fired their weapons, causing loud sounds and small explosions.
Once they were close enough to Ayaka's position, she could see that from the top of the metal vehicle, a dwarf was coming out; it was none other than Dareldrin, who started to signal them to come down from the building.
Ayaka exchanged glances with the warriors that were with her, and all of them nodded. Then they proceeded to get out of the building and walk toward Dareldrin. The moment they arrived, the swarm of ghouls that were attacking them was reduced to nothing.
"Good to see you alive, lads. Wheres the whity one and the golden one?."
"I'm not sure; Kaylessa was supposed to go to the blacksmith district with Laurelena."
Upon hearing the news, Dareldrin began to stroke his lengthy beard, lost in thought.
"First, we need to go to the Blacksmith district. If I don't find the girl, her mama is going to kill me. Everyone, hop into the tank. We're going to look for the whity."
Ayaka was less worried now that she had more people helping her search for Kay and Lau. On the other hand, Dareldrin was feeling anxious, hoping that Kay was not dead because if she was, he would be the next one.
Back with Kaylessa, she finally reached the barrier area, where the battle was ongoing. Many ghouls and giant spiders were fighting against the soldiers defending the barrier.
It appeared that the defenders were losing the fight as groups of gargoyles swooped down periodically to seize hundreds of them and make them vanish permanently, only for a rain of blood to appear soon after.
Kay was pondering how she could get to the barrier to protect the kid before looking for her companions. Her only choice was to use her skill [Fury] once more and attempt to run towards the barrier in the hope that it would work.
She activated her special ability and embraced the child before running towards the barrier as fast as she could. When the enemies noticed the bright red lightning in the darkness, they began to move towards Kay.
Many enemies attacked Kay, hitting her multiple times and causing her to be thrown around like a ball. Fortunately, her mother's protective barrier saved her from being killed, although she still experienced real pain.
"I CaN't BeLiEve tHaT yOu, thE One WhO DeFeAteD mE, iS BehAvig in Such a disGrAcefuL maNnEr."
Kay was so occupied that she didn't even notice someone trying to speak to her. She was completely unaware that the dagger on her hip was turning into black mud and merging with her body, eventually creating a dark armor adorned with blue designs.
Her new armor disintegrated her clothes, and a tight black material replaced them on her small body. Kaylessa realized her abilities were improving rapidly, allowing her to move faster and avoid enemies more easily.
After an hour, she finally reached the barrier, and then she noticed that her legs couldn't hold her weight anymore; she fell to the ground while still holding the child in her arms.
"ja-ja-ja cuf cuf. N-Now, kid, head towards the ships and evacuate. I have other things to attend to and can't stay with you any longer."
"B-But sis I-"
"Go now!You can't survive here; get stronger and then return the favor later! leave! now!"
A female refugee noticed the situation and came to offer help by volunteering to take the child with her to the evacuation ship. Kay agreed and observed as the crying child was led away.
Now that she was by herself, Kay finally took notice of her outfit. The black, full-body armor felt soft to the touch, but Kay recalled that it made a metallic sound when an enemy struck her.
"Well, this looks useful, but why do I feel naked while wearing it? Well, theres no point in pondering over it; I have things to do."
Kay reached out her arm and began to visualize a spear, and out of nowhere, a pitch black spear started taking shape in her hand.
She then attempted to use the spear to help herself stand up, but the pain from her broken ribs was making it difficult. She coughed up blood, indicating that her broken ribs may have punctured her organs.
However, she also felt that something was moving inside her body, as if something was shifting and making contact with her organs, but it did not cause any pain.
"Mmm, it feels really weird, but is making the pain on my ribs more bearable."
Kay started feeling better and decided to walk towards the battlefield. In order to find her companions, she knew she was going to become a ball again. However, with her new black armor, she felt stronger and more able to avoid the enemy's attacks.
And so she activated her [Fury] skill and ran toward the enemies.
Laurelena woke up in the restaurant district to the sound of someone chewing something crunshy loudly. When she opened her eyes, the first thing she saw was...
