Adeline looked outside and then she saw the two cars following them, it was hard to tell the difference because they were all the same model, Bugatti Centodiec. But Adeline guessed it was for security purpose. She glanced at her boss and saw that his attention was no longer on her, he had his body relaxed on the passenger seat with his one arm covering the upper half of his face. She could still see his lips stretched out in a thin line, the grin from earlier was gone and he looked rather serious.
Adeline was happy that he didn't do anything to her, she was expecting that he would get angry and yell but instead he was quiet. It looked like he was trying so hard to be quiet and then after that he walked out, Adeline thought her words must have been hurtful but if she could remember clearly then there was nothing hurtful in her words.
Adeline wanted to drive herself to work but Dylan suggested that she gets in his car, he told her that if she wanted her car so bad then he would ask one of his men to come get it later. Adeline had asked him not to bother and that she would prefer using a cab.
The silence dragged on for a while, Adeline couldn't help but notice the glances she was getting from the driver. Adeline was uncomfortable, she didn't like this, part of her new that all of this was just happening way too fast. Speculations would start up and then gossips, Adeline wasn't ready to face all of that. But she had to tell herself that it was only for today, she was only in his car because of the meeting they had to attend.
Speaking of the meeting, Adeline checked the time on her cell phone. It was already 8am, she was already expecting that since her boss had kept her inside delaying her with his words. She was sure that if the car could continue with this pace then they should arrive at the office very soon.
Adeline sighed as she tried to relax herself, she was still a little tense, his words were still stuck in her head and right now she wished she could just get her memory wiped from this morning. She raised her gaze to meet his but his face was still covered, she wondered if he was asleep. She wasn't going to disturb his rest, afterall he did have a meeting to attend to in a couple of minutes.
"Stop staring"
Adeline was surprised to hear his voice, at least it cleared the assumption of him sleeping, now she was sure that he was wide awake.
"I'm sorry" Adeline quickly apologized, she straightened up on her seat and decided to pay attention to the other side of the road. Her choice was a bad idea because the first thing she saw was a burrito shop, the sight alone had her eyes ogling as she stared at the burritos.
"You are salivating" He spoke again.
Adeline turned to face him and then she reached her hand to her lips and she felt the saliva trailing down. The scene was so embarrassing for her and so she quickly grabbed a napkin from her bag and wiped the saliva off her face. But before she could explain herself, she heard him ask again.
"Are you hungry?" Dylan realized that his question was too direct but he didn't care, he had been watching her ever since and he noticed how her eyes were fixed on the food carts and coffee shops they passed.
"Well....I...." Adeline paused as she glanced at the driver, even though the young man had his eyes on the road, she could tell he was still listening in on their conversation.
As if he could read her thoughts, Damien pushed a button and then something like steel emerged from the sides, separating the driver's seat from the passenger seat.
Adeline wanted to reach her hand out to feel the metal but she had to stop and turn her attention back to the man.
"Can you talk now?" He asked. His question came out like an order and Adeline wouldn't dare to disobey him.
"I woke up late this morning....so I....I didn't get the chance to make breakfast.... actually I was contemplating on wether or not to make breakfast before you knocked" Adeline explained. Now she thought about it, she would have gone with an empty stomach instead of making breakfast.
"Lets stop and get something then" Dylan said as he grabbed his phone from the side and called the driver.
"No ..no don't" Adeline was quick to react as she placed her hand over his as if that would stop him from making the call. Soon she realized she was making contact with him and so she quickly retracted her hand.
"We'll soon arrive at the office, there's no need for us to stall. I'll be okay till lunch" Adeline explained.
She could feel his gaze on her, his eyes pining her down to her seat, she had not realized that the little contact she made with him had caused him to tense up a little.
"Yes boss"
Adeline looked at him with pleading eyes.
Dylan froze for a second but he was quick to answer the call.
"How long till we get to the office?" Dylan asked, though he was still on the phone, his eyes were still fixed on her face as he watched her features change.
"Twenty minutes sir"
Dylan disconnected the call and slid his phone back in his pockets, he looked away from her face after much difficulty and then he closed his eyes. One could tell that he too was fighting his own battles inside but he still tried to keep his face blank not letting anyone see true his perfect farcade.
Adeline brought out her tablet and decided to go through some of the meetings objectives, she went through a few ideas she planned to show the investors. She already showed this to Dylan a week ago and she had it emailed to his phone, Adeline was sure he had already gone through them.
