Chapter 13 - CHAPTER THIRTEEN

CHAPTER THIRTEEN

Adeline sighed as she settled herself in the back seat of a small cab, she had waited for a while but Mr Wayne was still busy with some files and so Adeline took the opportunity to sneak out without him knowing.

She was relieved, now she didn't have to endure any long silence with him.

'Business trip'

The words echoed in her ears reminding her of her fate, tomorrow she would have to travel with Mr Wayne for a business trip. Adeline knew that this was another scheme, he was just looking for ways to get her close to him. It was uncomfortable for Adeline and if it was any other job then she would have quit this instant. But she couldn't, she needed the money and so she would have to endure it for a while.

Adeline sighed as she looked out the window, she was feeling sleepy again, she was happy that she fought the urge to sleep throughout work. But now, she could feel her eyes getting heavy.

Adeline couldn't risk sleeping inside a cab, the last time she tried it, it didn't end well for her. They were thirty minutes away from her house, Adeline was sure that if the man stepped on the gas they would arrive there sooner. But the cab man seem to be taking his time.

Adeline heard the sound of her phone buzzing, that was enough to distract her for a bit, her first thought was that her mum was calling but Adeline was surprised to see an unknown caller ID.

Her brows cringed as she thought to ignore the call, she guessed maybe someone must have dialed the wrong number or something. Adeline kept her phone back in her bag, five seconds passed and the buzzing started again.

"Who's this?" Adeline asked herself as she picked her phone again, it was the same unknown caller ID. After staring at the ID one more time, Adeline finally answered the call.

"Where are you?"

Adeline's face paled when she heard the sound of his voice, it took all her self control not to curse and hang up the phone.

"Answer me Adeline"

His voice came again, this time it looked like he was slowly loosing his patience, Adeline thought that he had used a compelling spell on her because she was then able to talk to him.

"I'm on my way home" Adeline replied, she tried not to stutter, she had to show him that even though he was her boss, working hours were over and so he shouldn't boss her around now.

"What's your location?"

His voice resounded in her ears.

Adeline didn't want to tell him, no she couldn't risk having to spend her night with him, she wanted to go home and relax. She was bitting her tongue trying her best not to say the words that were dancing on her lips. She remembered his statement earlier at the office, not that she would ever let him do that to her but Adeline had a feeeling that even if he wanted to, she may not be able to hold her ground.

"I don't know the exact location" Adeline spoke forcefully, she wasn't lying but she was hiding the truth. She would have been able to tell him something that would help him reach her but Adeline was going to be stubborn.

"Adeline"

Though his voice was calm, Adeline had to adjust a little on her seat, she could feel her palms getting sweaty. Her eyes looked around, for some reason she felt like he was watching her.

"You are lying to me"

His voice came out hoarse and Adeline could hear the mischief in his voice, it was clear that he was up to something. But Adeline was sure that as long as she doesn't disclose her location then he won't be able to do anything to her.

"Give the phone to the driver" Dylan ordered.

Adeline sighed as she turned to the middle aged man, she couldn't ask him to lie for her sake, part of her knew he wasn't going to lie.

"He's busy" Adeline lied.

"Don't test my patience Adeline" He warned with a little glint in his eyes, a part of him wishing that she would test him, he wanted to know how long he would be able to hold himself for her sake.

"It's not right to answer a call while driving, it could cause an accident" Adeline spoke. For some reason she was brave, Adeline didn't know where all this boldness was coming from. Was it because he was not with her right now, she wondered if she would be able to speak if he was standing in front of her.

"Adeline" he called her name again.

Adeline wanted to tell him to stop it, hearing him call her name like that reminded her of her dreams and Adeline wished that she wasn't thinking about that, not right now.

"Yes Mr Wayne" Adeline replied, she was going to keep this formal, it seemed like this boss of her's had forgotten that she was only his secretary and so he had no control over her.

"When I see you, I'm going to make sure to punish those pretty lips of yours for lying to me, and then..." he took a pause like as if he was enjoying the moment.

Adeline swallowed the lump in her throat and waited for him to continue, she could tell that he had something else to say.

"Oh God Adeline, you are going to wish you were honest with me" Dylan spoke, his voice sounding deeper than usual.

Adeline closed her eyes as she tried to stay focus, hearing the words that he said, punishment. For some reason his voice sounded so sensual in her ears and now Adeline was slowly letting go.

"Mr...Mr Wayne" Adeline managed to call out but then she heard the sound of her phone beeping, indicating that the call had been disconnected. Adeline didn't know wether to sigh in relief or be scared of what he might actually do, she didn't want to believe that he would really do those things he said.

'He's bluffing ' Adeline had to lie to herself, if that was what she needed to do so she could get her mind off him. A part of her knew that Dylan Wayne was not the kind of man who bluffs, but Adeline wanted to hold on to the little hope she had.
