Chapter 9 - Strange Encounter

In the dawn of a heated evening, amidst the dunes of Prxys was a young boy; he had lightly colored brown hair, each layer was like a spiral holding much volume. He held a tired expression resting atop his feminine sun-tanned features. He wore a large dusty black cloak smeared by dirt and sand, underneath; a silver breastplate with large shoulder pads followed by a brown tunic, to both sides of his anchored belt, two rugged-shape bladed daggers.

He walked with a stagger, moving unsteadily with each step as though it would be his last, as he moved about, he grasped for air. Buckets of sweat trickled down his hanged face.

He moved about alone, Huweyn, his guardian, was not with him. His training with him, to learn to use Soulweaving if needed, was all but finished. Kairi moved aside a large stretching Oasis in the middle of desert, rays of Eos plunged down with majesty, reflecting onto his bright green jewels for eyes.

The Oasis stretched on with majesty, in a straight line it ran forward, expanding its brightly green sparkling splendor. It stopped before a hidden Cavern amidst a towering rock. The Sworning Caverns.

As Kairi walked, amidst sweat trickling down his face, he could see the Caverns up ahead. Its entrance was marked by a dark cave-like opening, the Oasis continued on before escaping his line of sight, pressing onward inside of the Caverns, Kairi's heart rate accelerated with every step closer to the Cave-like opening. His head felt cloudy; he felt both dizzy and nauseated, his stomach began to cramp, an effect of fear, and its grasp on him.

Upon seeing the opening, he slowed down, subconsciously. As much as he wanted to run away, it was his duty.'Just half of a day, just half.' He echoed constantly in his head as to reassure himself.

As he stood in front of the cave-like opening, chills were sent down his spine.'Just until night-time.' He repeated in his head, gulping in fear, his legs trembling.'Courageous is a Transcender who knows his will and fights on for it.' A phrase he repeated from a book he had once read as a child.

With his legs trembling, his throat parched out of fear, he walked onward, onto the dark opening. He was then revealed by the infrastructure of it; completely unlike the outside.

He was revealed to an enclosed space, a tunnel, marked by an orange hue, a rocky cavern, through holes atop, the Rays of Eos, plunged through, serving as the only source of light.

The place was marked by a brightly orange aesthetic, sandy rocks plunged downward from the ceiling, some towered upwards. A straight cave-like path pressed forward, in a straight line, as the path continued, so did the Oasis. Kairi walked beside the water, moving as slowly as possible, on edge, he unsheathed both his daggers from anchoring to the sides of his belt.

Holding them outward, he staggered forward, looking from left to right, to up and below. As he moved forward he was revealed to many different openings, different layers or tunnels leading to different paths, but he followed the path he had come from, the straight path.

As he walked, his foot had trampled upon something sturdy. He jumped, pulling his foot away immediately upon response. As he looked down, fear gripped him tightly; below his foot was a skull.

Its skeletal structure was deformed, clearly not belonging to a human, it was a withering skull, black in color. It was nearly larger than Kairi's calf, it belonged to a monster, something non-human.

Upon seeing this, Kairi's heart played the rhythm of a drum, nearly beaten out of his chest. He immediately looked around him in distress, to be greeted with nothing, nothing but rocks and sand. He then looked downward, onto the cracked dried surface.

A thought had entered his head, kneeling down, he then began to dig aside the sand off the surface. As he did, his hand touched a similar sensation, a rock-hard structure; it was another skull, identical to the other.

Upon seeing this, he immediately began to burrow around once more, not in the same spots but others, as he did, he was revealed to multiple fossils, belonging to Beasts. Upon seeing them, his fear-stricken mind was filled with many thoughts. Just how many more fossils were buried underneath the sand? What lurked ahead? What had killed these monstrosities?

Facing the path forward, he thought,'I had better stay on guard.' He then pressed forward, more slowlier than before, looking around on high-guard,"This is the Sworning Caverns I've heard about as a child indeed."

As he pressed onward, he was revealed to another cave-like opening, the once straight path had led into a large tunnel, its size could accommodate nearly a giant. The stretching Oasis eventually stretched onto a layer inside the large opening that could not accommodate Kairi's size.

As he moved forward into the tunnel, holding his daggers out, his line of sight was marked by shadowing darkness. Like a cloth rested upon his pupils. He was blinded to any attacks, now reliant only upon his other senses.

As he looked up, a multitude of eyes stretched across the ceiling, upon being revealed to this sight, he immediately pulled over his cloak,' Bats.'

As much as he disliked the creatures, their presence amidst the tunnel marked the absence of others, at least that would be the case for now. Moving forward, he sighed in relief,'Thank the Heavens."

The tunnel had come to an abrupt end, and a large opening marked by the rays of Eos, stood forth. As he moved forward, he was now in a large open space.

A space accompanied by a large stretching field of sand and rocky mechanisms, along with brightly lit translucent crystals. Within this open space, Kari was revealed to be what would seem to be a cold humid, the air suddenly was cold, frost escaped with every breath.

The ice-like translucent crystals towered nearly to the ceiling, inflicting a color that opposed the orange-like hue to the environment. They were all about the opened space, and the walls were marked by many openings; a multitude of tunnels.

As Kairi made forward, the young boy couldn't help but feel as though he weren't alone; he was correct in his verdict. As he looked forward toward the towering walls, his eyes had caught sight of strange silhouettes reflected from the light plunging down from the ceiling.

It looked like that of a lizard, a reptile of sorts. As he continued to stare, something began to poke out of one of the tunnels, the one he had first caught sight of the silhouette. It was a head, belonging not to a human, like that of a turtle, a head poked out, it was a strange reptile-like organism. It was marked by dark green reptilian-like hard scales, its head stretching like that of a serpent, bright crystals like that of the environment where its eyes should rest.

Its head was the size of a horse, stretching forward, poking out of the tunnel, like a snake. It was terrifying, as it poked its head out, it looked toward Kairi, sending shivers down his spine. Lookin back at it, he thought,'What in all the realms is that supposed to be?'

Upon immediately making eye contact, it aggressively fitted itself out of the hole, desperately trying to push itself through the small gap. Looking at its struggle to escape the layer, Kairi scoffed,'Is it attracted to my charm? You know what? I surely don't blame it.'

As it finally burrowed itself through the hole, it tumbled onto the ground from the tunnel. Its whole body resembled that of a Turtle, holding that of a large shell. The shell itself was like that of crystals in its eyes and the ones around him; large translucent crystals. It's tail, terrifyingly enough, was but another head, identical to the main one.

At that moment, another creature, of the same species, tumbled down from the tunnel. Falling atop the first one, like a game piece. The struggle from earlier would seem to be the effect of both creatures simultaneously struggling to escape the gap of the tunnel opening.

Holding his daggers up in response to the sight before him, feeling utterly disgusted but still on high-guard, Kairi sighed,'Just my luck.'
