Chapter 20 - Journey to the Ancient Battlefield 5

They roared. The distance was closed little by little. Soon, less than a hundred meters were between the pursuers and the pursued.

*WHOOSH*

Dozens of spears were hurled in Leo's direction, breaking through the air.

Of course, Leo was not weak enough to be taken out just by a few spears, but the process of dodging them slowed him down further and allowed his pursuers to narrow the distance een further.

Suddenly, dozens of Barbarian riders appeared in front of him. Obviously, they had split from the main force and taken a shortcut to block him off.

The Barbarians surrounded him, raising their weapons and letting out threatening snarls.

Leo's eyes became sharper and sharper, as he conditioned his body to its best state for a fight.

A Barbarian came down from his mount and stood in front of Leo, his beast skin almost bursting from its seams cause of its wearer's bulging muscles.

This Barbarian was at least 3.3 meters tall, and he had a red-feathered cap on his head to showcase his superiority, obviously as the leader. He wielded a greatsword made of bone.

"BANTI. MI COKA GANK WI!"

After this senstence which Leo had basically no idea of its meaning, the muscle mountain bounded towards him at unprecedented speeds, bone blade raised high.

'Its Agility must be at least 3 points!' Leo thought in surprise while attempting to dodge the attack.

However, something happened that made his pupils shrink even further.

[ENRAGED SLASH]

The speed of the greatsword suddenly doubled, catching Leo off guard. His heroic quest would have ended there and then if he hadn't used his superhuman flexibility to lean far backwards.

Even so, he was left with a long wound that went from his left shoulder to his right hip.

Leo took a few steps backwards, organizing his rythm.

The Barbarian leader spoke again, this time speaking in broken Shiva.

"You kill Clansmen. You... DIE!!!"

With a whoosh, he advanced and used the attack again. Leo narrowed his eyes and changed his stance.

{SPIRITUAL OVERLORD TECHNIQUE - Ferocious Tiger: Shifting Shadows}

Turning into a series of afterimages, Leo dodged the attack, which sent snow flying everywhere, and relied at the speedy short burst giving by the technique to maneuver to the Barbarian leader's back in the blink of an eye.

His hand formed a claw.

{SPIRITUAL OVERLORD TECHNIQUE - Ferocious Tiger: White Cloud Claw}

The air around Leo's arm screeched as airflow advanced towards the Barbarian leader in the shape of a large claw.

However, the target of the attack was not to be outdone.

[STONE SKIN]

The Barbarian leader roared as his skin darkened, his muscles moving in a special way.

As if his very cells were rearranging themselves, the surface of the skin petrified rapidly.

When the claw landed on the Barbarian leader, he was thrown more than six meters away, and five deep gashes were on its body.

However, it was not dead.

The hundreds of Barbarian riders moved their Ice Wolves, starting to join the fight.

Leo's expression turned ferocious as the rest of his apprehension disappeared.

His five meter tall Martial Spirit appeared behind him.

"If you want to fight me, then..."

He took in a deep breath, bellowing.

"LET'S FIGHT TO THE DEATH!!!"

...

*BOOM*

Leo ripped another enemy apart.

He had forgotten how long he had been fighting for. All he knew was; the Barbarian leader was already dead.

RAAAR!!!

'Shut it!'

*BAM*

Another one dead.

Leo moved to attack again, but suddenly paused.

Nothing was moving.

He breathed heavily, almost lying on the reddened ground in exhaustion.

Blood and gore dominated a radius of almost a hundred meters.

Three hundred Barbarian riders, complete with Ice Wolves and Barbaric Arts, were vanquished.

This was a level of strength that could lay waste to an army of more than two thousand human soldiers.

This was probably the entire fighting force of a small to medium level Barbarian tribe.

Not waiting to find out whether the group had reinforcements, Leo carried his battered body and left the area.

The wounds on his body were already forming scabs, reminiscent of his high vitality.

If Leo had fought this battle before his technique was advanced to Overlord Heart, he might have actually died here.

This was a reminded, written in blood, telling him to never stop improving and becoming a better version of himself.

While walking away, Leo swore in his heart;

Whether it was to take his revenge on the Devils, or to simply stay alive, he would always grow stronger, until he looked around and was very sure... That no one compared

This, with renewed motivation, Leo continued on his path, both physically and spiritually.

The Path of Invincibility...

...

The snow got sparser and sparser, and instead of bursting with life, the ground started getting more desolate, with bare trees appearing often.

Leo trudged on towards his goal, one step in front of the other.

It had been seven days since the decisive battle against the Barbarians, and he could tell that he was closer to the Ancient Battlefield than ever.

For one, in the past three days alone, he had encountered close to ten Aberrations, although none of them were Tier Four and above.

And again, with the terrain getting more and more ravaged and desolate.

With his previous life's experience, he knew that this was a characteristic of a warzone.

Suddenly, Leo's ears twitched, as he discovered signs of an ongoing battle some distance away. Lowering his presence as much as possible, he advanced towards the position.

*ROAR!!!!*

Five Tier One Aberrations were being attacked by about ten Warlocks.

From the looks of it, they were Warlocks from a Minor God, since they weren't using any supernatural power even though they were clearly struggling.

Minor God's consisted of most of the gods, numbering in the hundreds. The maximum realm their Warlocks could achieve was Peak Official Warlock, in contrast to Grandmaster Warlock of Major Gods and the Divine Warlock of GodKing.

Out of the hundreds of millions of humans and the dozens of large and small kingdoms and empires, there were close to a million Warlocks, and out of these, 70% were Warlocks of the Minor God's.

To put it nicely, they were the main foot soldiers. To put it bluntly, in two words; Cannon Fodder.
