"Oh, D's here!"
I grinned widely at them as I entered our little headquarters. Obviously, I was the only one who was not present, and they were all waiting for me here.
Well, at least they have a very good time waiting for me, unlike me, who just came from training and was then told to meet them. I was already running like a cheetah during training, and now I was also running towards here like I was being followed by the cheetah.
"Here, Diana. Drink up first," Kylee gently said as he gave me a glass of cold water.
"Oh, thanks, Lee!" I said my thanks and took the water in one go.
I was trying to calm my raging hormones from those runs, and fortunately, no one has asked me anything yet. They all just continued doing their business before I came.
While I was drinking the water, I observed everyone in the room. Since the room is not that big, after all, this was just a nipa hut that we took as our own. Actually, this hut was supposed to be a relaxing house for those warriors who just got home after their mission and reported to the Alpha. Since this hut was basically just in front of the main manor.
But because we always took residence in this hut, they just created a new one and gave it to us. Before, this was just a simple nipa hut, like one that was open with seats and all sorts of covers. Because it was beside the big tree, aside from the fact that it wasn't hot because the tree covered the hut from heat, it was also windy here, as fresh air breezed around the area. It's refreshing, so we always want to relax here.
And since they gave the place to us willingly, of course we would never waste that opportunity, so we finally got this hut renovated according to our taste, and then it became our own little headquarters. But, it was us who did the renovation. We were just given the materials and some help.
And with our efforts and hard work, the simple nipa hut became a cute, homey, and comfy nipa house. Using our own money, we bought some important things, such as sofa beds, tables, and some appliances like a water dispenser, a portable fridge, and some kitchen utensils. Although it made the house cramped, it was comfortable because we felt like we were living alone when we were here.
After I drank the water from the glass, I next targeted the delicious-looking cookies and picked one from the plate. Comfortably lying on the vacant side of the sofa, I started slowly biting on the cookie.
"You won't be reporting to Luna Michelle first, Diana? Maybe Luna Michelle would be looking for you once we get on the mission," Kylee said, ruining the silence in the room.
I almost couldn't help but pout after hearing his remarks. Before answering him, I put the remaining piece of the cookie in my mouth, and after munching it for a while, I gulped it down as I took the pitcher, which was full of cold juice, and poured some on my glass.
"Luna Michell won't. After all, Alpha Frank wouldn't assign tasks to me without hearing first from Luna Michelle," I said in a tone of joking, and fortunately, they got my joke and also laughed.
"Well, that's unfortunate for Alpha Frank, who loves Luna Michelle so much. And since Luna Michelle likes D, Alpha Frank had no choice but to comply with Luna Michelle first when it comes to you," Cornelia, who was playing with her phone, said.
I nodded my head while chuckling. Just by imagining how Alpha Frank would have to report first to Luna Michelle about the matters regarding me, I couldn't help but laugh. Because that is, for sure, not far from reality.
Anyway, I am not Alpha's daughter because I am a human. Although Luna Michelle became a fallen kind, she's still the only one and will only be the Flaming Raven Pack's Luna, just as she will only be the Alpha's mate. And my family name is Smith, not Dawson.
It was just, let's just say that, I am Luna Michelle's favorite? Well, I am actually the personal servant of Luna Michelle, but honestly speaking, Luna didn't treat me like one. Even when Luna Michelle was still a true Alpha, I was already assigned to do things for her. But since I was still around ten years old at that time, I was just one of her servants.
It was I who became her little boat when she was depressed. I was eleven when the rogue accident happened. We were attacked by countless rogues, and Luna Michelle and the seven months baby in her tummy became a victim. Luna Michelle became a fallen while the baby died. So I became her outlet to forget all the pain that was brought upon her by that accident.
Since then, I have been Luna Michelle's personal servant. Since I was also an orphan at the young age of five, there was no problem when the family of the Alpha took me into their family. But they never legally adopted me, as per my request, and since then, I wasn't just a personal servant anymore. And I am really happy because of that.
I couldn't say that Luna Michelle being a fallen is a blessing, but since Luna Michelle became a fallen, Flaming Raven Pack's treatment of humans has improved. It was already good when Luna Michelle was still a true Alpha. But when Luna Michelle became a fallen kind, humans in the pack had a better standing.
We're no longer just servants. We had the freedom to choose what we wanted to become, and we had the same treatment as those ordinary members of the pack. Training, studies—all of that we had finally acquired—and I am very grateful to the family of the Alpha for the freedom they have given us for the past nine years.
"What time again does the Alpha return?" Tania, who was done with the dishes, asked.
"A few more minutes, and the Alpha and his entourage will return from the summit." It was Froilan, or Lan for short, who answered Tania's question.
Hearing their exchanges, I looked around at everyone who was now sitting on the sofas, doing their own thing.
They are my little squad, both literally and metaphorically. Since they are the members of our squad who would do any mission assigned to us. And they are also my squad of friends.
The man who gave me the cup of water a while ago is Kylee Crawford, or Lee for short. He's an omega with an omega body that's more feminine than Tania's. Actually, if he would just act like a weak and fragile omega, maybe he would be more beautiful than Tania. Unfortunately, he has the heart of an alpha. As he dreamed to be one, so in our squad, he acted like the alpha.
Speaking of Tania, she's the woman who was doing the dishes a while ago. Contrary to Kylee, she has a manly look, without those big bodies and muscles. She has short hair and a fierce face, so she's really more of a man than Lee.
But she's still beautiful in her own unique way. After all, among us, she's the only one who already has her mate. Which is Delta Yzekiel, who was the future Beta when Nero became the Alpha. That's why Tania is the squad's beta.
Of course, if we have the beta, then we also have the squad's gamma. And that would be the lady who loves tricks—Cornelia Demetre. She came from the family of Eelders and Gamma since her father is the current Gamma, while her older sister will be the future Gamma too.
Although she might be naughty and tricky, she's also good at everything. She can be a gamma if she wants, but it mostly depends on the situation.
And lastly, to complete our squad, of course, we need a salutary in the group. And that's Froilan Thomas, or Lan for short. He's the youngest son of our pack doctor, so he has a lot of knowledge about medicine and all that. Plus, he's also a techie, so he's really a big help.
All in all, that's my squad. We might be a group of mixed individuals, like we almost completed the ranks, but we are not to be looked down upon. Not to boast, but our pack is the number one among the younger squadrons. We're even better than Nero's squad of three!
Speaking of Nero, he's the only child of Luna Michelle and Alpha Frank. So he's the future alpha. We're close, like really close. But unlike what the other pack members think, he and I have no intimate relationship other than that with unrelated siblings. I just saw him as an older brother, while he also treated me like his real younger sister.
And as if I would like Nero, who is the son of my mother figure? Just thinking about liking him already made me shiver to the core. We might not be blood related, but I'm not inclined toward incest, okay?
"Hmm, it seems like Alpha Frank's here." Tania stood up and stretched her body.
I was then pulled out of my own world as I watched them already standing and taking their items.
"Oh, shit. I still had not changed my dampened sweat clothes!" I exclaimed in surprise as they all looked at me.
"I'll wait for you, Diana. You guys could go ahead and reserve some space," Lee said, ordering them.
I didn't answer, as I had already run towards the small bathroom with my new clothes.
"Okay. Take your time, D! I'm sure Alpha Frank would give the tasks first to the elder squads. We'll just text you about our position!" It was Cornelia, if I am correct.
"Okay! Thanks!" I shouted in response. After that, I heard the door closing, so I started removing my sweaty clothes.
Soon, I get out of the bathroom in new clothes, which I usually wear when I have tasks. Lee, who was waiting with me, showed me the text Lan had sent, and I was shocked when I read that we had already been assigned.
"Maybe the Alpha instructed the younger squads first," Lee said with a shrug.
I didn't answer him as we left. And we immediately spotted the three who were standing at the entrance of the main manor. I could also see some squads coming out of the manor. With a frown, we sprinted towards the three.
"What happened? I was just taking ten minutes to change, and then we're already given the task?" I asked as soon as I reached them.
"I was also shocked with how fast everything goes. Alpha Frank started discussing while his warriors started giving us this paper where the task was written." Tania gave me the paper, and I immediately read the contents.
It says that we were assigned to the west borders, as Delta Greg had said to me a while ago. It also stated the time our task would end, which was at six in the evening.
"What did the Alpha say?" Lee asked, and I looked at Tania in question.
"Alpha said that what they had discussed in the Alpha Sumit is about the Lycan King who suddenly showed up in the meeting after a year of absence. Then the King had said that he will start his yearly visits with every pack, which will start later midnight. And since our pack is one of the closest, it was also us who will be the first pack to be visited. But the Lycan King instructed every pack that his visits will always be from midnight to four in the early morning," Tania seriously explained.
I scoffed. "What a drag. Why does it need to be at midnight? What is he, a freakin' vampire?"
"That's a funny joke, D." Cornelia chuckled.
"Although I agree with Diana, he's the King. So we don't have a choice but to follow him, however unscrupulous his request might be," Lee seriously said.
I just shut my mouth while a pout was still plastered on my face. That Lycan King is really not to my liking. He's just a spoiled brat to me who needs some beating.
"Additional information guys, Alpha Frank also stated that everyone should stay inside the house once midnight comes. The Alpha said that the King's visit will be different than he usually does. He would use his visit to test how intense every pack's night vigil is," Lan added while wiping his glasses.
"What the heck does that mean?" My face might be full of incredulity as I look at Lan.
"It means that before his peaceful talk with Alpha Frank, the Lycan King would enter the vicinity of our pack's territory like a sneaky wolf. That's also why all the Sentinels, including the Hunters and Scouts, will have a relaxing time for the whole afternoon since when night comes, everyone is assigned to patrol around the borders." It was Cornelia who explained.
"Tss." I turned my back as I started walking. "Whatever it is, he's still an attention-seeking bastard. I really hate that king. But as a human, how can I compare? If I were just given a chance to teach him a lesson, I would gladly do it, even if it cost my life," I added, loud enough for them to hear.
"Is that for real, D? Why do you sound like you are speaking of an oath or a curse? I didn't know your hatred towards His Highness was this great," Tania chided.
"Let's just go to our post and do our task. I couldn't care for that unscrupulous spoiled brat," I said dismissively, not having an idea that what I said would be the death of me.
