Chapter 22 - Chapter 22: Truth of potion (1)

Philosophers often said that dreams reflected our unconscious mind, revealing truths we couldn't hide from ourselves. Many sorceries and illusions were based on this concept. While I am drawn to Buddhist philosophy, I found myself at odds with its teachings on non-violence, treachery, lies, and greed. In this brutal era, killing often seemed easier than showing kindness.

Back to myself, who had trouble sleeping and tossing and turning my bed. I opened my eyes and glanced at my hands and legs which were numb to recall it.

"Mom! " The word escaped from my lips. Me not saving my mother was the deepest regret I have after seeing my crush go into a coma.

It happened when I was in my early twenties, way after kissing my crush and going to prison. That man was full of himself and foolish. I came home when my grumpy father called me and said that mom was hospitalised. Reminiscing about that, everything was vivid yet gruesome for me. In fact, I was too young and naive.

The hospital ward was where my mother stayed for a while, and Dad used to sit down beside her. I didn't think that event would turn my life upside down.

I opened the door and bit my lips in bewilderment.

"Dad, what happened with Mom? " The man who had similar eyes as mine was grey, and he watched me with revulsion.

It was that time when I wasn't transformed; I was around 5'7" tall and looked very plain. As I grew older and older, my body evolved brilliantly. Back then, I didn't have golden eyes or could perform magic. I was just a bronze mutant. Nothing else.

"You finally come. '' Dad interjected with me and pulled me out of the room. Stealing sight of mom, who was sleeping peacefully.

I was unaware of what happened to her. Perhaps I was so engrossed in my job that I forgot I had parents. What a disgraceful son I was.

At the corner, dad told me mom's condition. She had a third stage of cancer. When I heard my slipping

"How could it be possible? Dad, this is not the time for joking." I asked in a baffled tone, as I could not perceive this.

My dad, who seldom displayed emotions, cried in melancholy. "It's true, son. I didn't tell you because she wants you to focus on your job. Being a country hero. "

Hearing this, I stumbled on the ground. My mother, who hated medicine, was suffering from such a disease, and she didn't tell me. My heart skipped for a second.

Silence! Everything looked black and white, as if someone had snatched my colours.

Dad's voice echoed in my ears. " For some time, be good with her. "

When I was homeschooled, my mother was my first teacher and a friend. She couldn't cook well, unlike other mothers, or she couldn't manage finance like my father. She taught me how to interact with others or fight with others.

I sat down on the bed next to her, and my mom laughed innocently.

"You look so handsome with long hair, darling. '' Mom winked at me. I used to have long hair to intimidate others.

I studied my mother's features: her emerald green eyes, her olive skin, and a mole on her right cheek. She was wearing a bandana to cover her head. The woman who was obsessed with her hair, was going through so much hardship.

Her face was mesmerising yet exudes elegance and mischievousness.

"Mom, you are looking so lovely. "

"Smooth as butter." She smirked and felt proud of my rizz skill. "I have seen in your recent video that you hunted monsters.Eros, I didn't realise my boy turned into a man. "

That time, Ricco County was surrounded by many monsters and zombies. The Hunters Association was newly established, and I was one of the rising hunters. Good old days! Perhaps seeing me on television as a hero, my mother chose not to inform me.

I wish I had told her sooner that the job was hellish.

I put on a facade, smiled, and whispered in a soft voice. " Mom, this is all for you. "

"How charming. " Despite being in excruciating pain, she was laughing heartily.

I clenched my fist and vowed to cure her completely. According to the doctor, my mother had only a 40% chance of surviving. That wasn't enough for me. For two months, my dad and I had cared for her, but instead of improving, her condition worsened. The doctor was doing their best, but her suffering only seemed to increase. So, I decided to seek help from someone who might be able to cure her of this incurable disease. Sigh.

Like me, there was a gifted person in Zaos who was a good friend of mine. She was capable of curing her. It took me a week to travel there.

I had reached Magus Hall. At a quick glance, I presumed it was a Japanese temple. A I entered through the traditional red gate and swiftly teleported to my friend's office.

I was sitting on tatami mats, cross-legged, while I was offered tea. My friend is sitting in front of me. Those words lingered in my mind like a knife stabbing my heart.

"I am sorry, Eros. As per the Magus Guidebook, we are not allowed to treat an outsider." She denied my request.

"Maya, we are friends, so please help me.

Maya pressed her temple in predicament and looked at me with helpless eyes. "I am sorry, I can't. If I help you, then I have to help hundreds. Not to mention, it is against our protocol. "

I was ready to beg if I had to. Seeing my desperation, Maya decided to give me an alternative.

"I can give you a potion that might cure her. Eros, the chance of her being fully cured isn't much. "

I grinned after hearing it. "M2 magic can revive the dead, so I am confident it will heal my mother. " I said innocently.

I got the potion that would cure my mother.

Suddenly, Sebastian's voice interrupted my narration.

"What happened next? "

"Can you let me finish this?" He grimaced.

My golden eyes watched the amber while his mind was full of chao. His lips were quivering when he mentioned it.

"She is cured from cancer. "

Sébastien's eyes lit up as he heard. Some might wonder how the hell I was doing outside. I had a habit of talking to myself, so he teleported to the firepit to narrate the story. Moreover, Martin had good ears.

Sebastian gave a doubtful look. "If your mom recovered, then why did you massacre the North Magus Association brutally?"

I offered an evil smirk. "Because my lovely friend jeopardised me. The potion she provided had a side effect on her. "

Sébastien was petrified at my words.

A month passed after my mother healed. She could dance, run, and cook. She made radioactive dishes, which my father and I happily ate. One night, a rainstorm occurred.

"Mom, let me cook for you. " I said enthusiastically, unable to digest her food anymore.

I was cooking her favourite Alfredo pasta and cheese corn pizza. Being an Italian, I wanted to display my cooking skill.

Suddenly, I got a call from the bureau.

I picked it up. "Macflan, hi. Bad news: the zombies were getting out of control. So your holiday is rejected. Come back as soon as possible. " Hearing this, I felt a little disheartened.

Therefore, I never imagined things would be so heartbreaking.
