Chapter 1 - Into The Darkness

"Your total is $17.38" Bia said chewing her gum with a bored expression on her face as she picked at her nails. She stared uninterested at the man as he rapidly searched for what she could only assume was his money before he finally pulled out and handed over a twenty dollar bill with an embarrassed look on his face.

She shot the customer a fake smile, then quickly dropped it before taking the money and passing his change back along with his food. Sighing at the sound of the door opening and closing, that being the only customer they've had in the past hour. BIA went to the manager's office to go see what she was doing- and possibly bug her since it was slow in the store today.

"I'm soooo bored." Bia huffed out as she barged into her manager's office, slumping down in an unoccupied chair before drawing her attention over to her best friend. "You could restock the supplies I told you about" She mumbled as she mindlessly scrolled through her phone. Bia scoffed before reaching over and playfully knocking Yemmi's phone out her hand, "I'd rather not to be honest" She shrugged before slouching back down in her chair, kicking back her feet as she twirled a pen she found some time earlier today. "Well I don't really care what you do, if you go back out just make it look like you're working" Yemmi said mildly amused, returning her attention to her mindless scrolling before looking at the time.

8:27

"It's nowhere near close to closing- it's barely 8:30" She barely got out before Bia let out a groan. "We can't even go home until 12.." She whined before getting up and walking over to Yemmi, shaking her dramatically. "If I don't go home soon, I think I'm gonna die!-" She cut herself off before pretending she got struck by lightning, stiffly stepping back in fake shock before falling over in her chair with her tongue slightly hanging out her mouth.

Yemmi laughed at her friend's shenanigans before jokingly throwing a random associate starter pamphlet at her, Bia having not moved and playing dead at a weird angle- it hit her in the neck. "Ouch! Geez, cut my carotid- why don't you.." Bia mumbled sarcastically while rubbing the quickly forming bruise, she threw the pamphlet back, Bia being a terrible throw-..accidentally hit her in her face with the pamphlet. Her eyes go wide as she sees her friend go to stand, and possibly hit her back so she speedily brushes past Yemmi, "Sorry!-" She yells out before quickly leaving Yemmi's office and shutting the door behind her.

Letting out a sigh of relief, she stands there for a bit before remembering she's on camera. She lets out a lazy sigh before deciding to take out the trash, she'll be busy and it's one of Yemmi's chores so she thought it would make up for accidentally hitting her in the face.

She laughed at the memory while stepping outside, she was met with a cool breeze. Shivering in her short-sleeve work shirt she dragged the trash out with one hell of a struggle, Bia could imagine it would be quite interesting to witness someone genuinely fight with trash, too bad she was the one actually doing it. "Fuck this, after this I'm not doing shit else.." She mumbled in frustrated exhaustion as she wiped some sweat off her face.

She looked back before letting out a scoff that was followed by a tired sigh as she looked at the short distance she crossed before looking down at the trash bag, it had a small sized hole in it. Her eyes drifted to the unknown juices flowing out the bag and onto the uneven concrete, Bia's face contorted into a look of distaste, "Bloody hell, she better be happy.." She grumbled before opening the trash can lid.

All of a sudden, the hairs on Bia's arms started to stand and goosebumps quickly appeared on her brown skin. She froze, caught off guard by the sudden feeling of fear that overtook her whole body. Bia slowly looked around, her eyes trying to find the threat her body so desperately thought was nearby. The eerie silence that overtook the parking lot made her skin crawl, taking a few deep breaths- she managed to somewhat calm herself before continuing her task.

Just as her hands gripped the trash bag there was a loud noise behind her. Bia jumped, a soft gasp escaping her lips as she let go of the garbage bag and covered her mouth out of fright as she turned around in the direction the sound came from. Staring into the darkness that was just yards away behind the trash bin. Her eyes quickly adjusted to the darkness as she could faintly see an outline of something, her heart beat faster and her breathing quickened, she squinted her eyes to try and get a better view.

Her eyes widened, and her face grew pale as her blood ran cold, her body completely frozen in fear. Not even taking in another breath as Bia stared at the creature just yards away from her deep in the darkness, Its giant and bulky body faced her way, looking directly at her. Its bright glowing red eyes being the only thing she could see clearly.

But just like that, in the blink of a second- it was gone.

Bia looked around frantically as her body finally decided to thaw and her breathing became rigid once more. Not even bothering to look back or finish taking out the trash, she booked it inside. Locking the back door behind her before rushing into Yemmi's office. "Bia don't think I forgot- What happened?" Yemmi quickly changed the subject, noticing the terrified expression on her best friend's face. Tears threatened to gather in Bia's eyes as her deep rooted feeling of fear didn't leave, instead it grew stronger.

"I-it was something out there…a-and it was watching me!" She finally exclaimed before clutching a hand to her heart and taking a seat as she tried not to cry, Bia looked up at Yemmi since she noticed she didn't say anything but she did notice she was looking at the security cameras. "Bia…" Yemmi mumbled, her eyes held a certain look..like she was uncomfortable, confused and on the verge of being afraid.

Bia got up and looked at the cameras as well. One by one, cameras began to lose signal. The two young girls looked at each other in fear before Yemmi broke away, "Whatever it was…Did it follow you?" She whispered out, her voice shaky. Bia shook her head as she slowly turned to look at the no longer working CCTV cameras, "No..It was just standing there..and then it disappeared" She replied, Yemmi's head flew in Bia's direction, "It just disappeared?!" Without another word Yemmi turned around and reached for the store keys before walking towards the door. Bia caught Yemmi's wrist just as her hand landed on the door handle, she couldn't let her friend go out there.

Bia could feel the fear in her body grow bigger and bigger with each passing minute. "Don't! I'll call the police." Quickly dialing 911 and calling the police, the short and quick conversation had the operator send officers their way but it would be 10 minutes before they would reach them. "The police won't be here for another 10 minutes." Bia whispered as she chewed on her nails anxiously, "A lot could happen in 10 minutes.." Yemmi mumbled, Bia gulped before shaking her head in denial. "We can survive 10 minutes.."

Just a couple seconds later the loud sound of windows breaking could be heard all throughout the store. The two girls screamed as they ran, sprinting towards the back door as they heard heavy footsteps rush their direction.

Having forgotten she locked the door, Bia hands shakily scrambles trying to find the keys when Yemmi pushes her to the side and unlocks the door herself. They push open the door and make a run for it, they only make it a couple yards from the store when they could hear the sound of charging footsteps getting closer. They make it just onto the road before Bia's body collides with the ground.

"BIA!"

She goes to stand up when she feels excruciating pain shoot up her leg. Her body collapses to the floor once again, tears in a hurry to escape her eyes, she could hear blood curdling screams come from Yemmi's mouth. Vision going blurry and head too heavy to pick up off the concrete, Bia turns her head, just enough to see the creature disappear into the darkness..
