It was currently late at night, long after school concluded itself and after Bia finished her homework. She couldn't help but to think about the words Yemmi said to her earlier that day. "We'll get the information we seek ourselves.." Bia recalled the older girl telling her to go home and look up whats been happening to her and tomorrow they'll come to some type of conclusion on this matter.
So far the younger girl was sat at her desk, staring at her computer as the google search bar mocking her as her fingers hovered over the keyboard in hesitation, not even sure how to word the type of questions she had.
"Disappearing wounds..
Fast healing wounds..
Sensitive smell after being bitten..
fast healing wounds and sensitive smell after being bitten.."
All she got was links for rabies, health medicine, how to treat infected wounds, and different conditions that had symptoms of what she was describing; besides the being bitten part. Bia sighed loudly in annoyance at her failed attempt to get answers, getting up and cracking her bones she made her way over to the bathroom. Quickly deciding to just get ready for bed and slightly convincing herself that herself and Yemmi were simply just traumatized and making stuff up.
The moon was bright in the sky, its light shining through her window. "Almost full.." She muttered to herself as she turned on the tap and grabbed her toothbrush and toothpaste to brush her teeth, going through her usual routine- brushing, spit, mouthwash, spit. As she raised back up to look in the mirror at her reflection, she smiled big and wide trying to examine her work. Some of her teeth looked sharper than usual but she figured they looked pretty white to her, wait- 'I don't remember my teeth being this sharp...' She thought as she examined her mouth further.
Bia backed up and stared at herself in the mirror, not sure if she was tweaking or not but once again decided to call it night and head to bed.
The next morning at school, the girls met up just before class attempting to discuss what little to no information that they've found. "I dont know Yemmi, maybe we need to chill-" Yemmi's eyes widened a little bit before she scoffed and crossed her arms. "Bia theres no way you think we're making this up!" The younger just shrugged her shoulders and sighed before looking away. "I dont know what to think, but we dont have proof of anything!" Bia replied, growing tired of the mind games the current situation was playing on her.
"Thats why-" Yemmi's voice was overshadowed by someone elses that quickly filled her ears. "You're new right?" Bia's face contorted in confusion as she looked back to Yemmi, "Yeah, I got here yesterday-" It sounded so close by, She couldve sworn the voice was coming from right beside her- before the older girl could even reply to face that was made in what she could only assume to be directed at her, Bia spoke first. "Do you hear that?" She asked, Yemmi looked taken aback at first before she said something, "No? Hear what?" She asked confused before looking around, Bia took that as an invite do look around as well.
"Well you came just in time, Im Leilah and I so happen to be throwing a killer party this friday... you should come" Bia locked eyes onto the girl just as she said her name, recognizing her as one of the schools most popular cheerleaders. Her eyebrows furrowed as her brown eyes shifted onto another girl, just next to her. The same smell appearing from yesterday as she noticed it was the same girl. "Im Aleyna, i'll definitely think about it" The girl spoke softly.
Yemmi looked in the same direction that had Bia in such a chokehold, noticing she was focused on two girls that was ways down the hallway. "Dont think! Just come, I promise you'll have a good time" She could hear Leilah say before Aleyna laughed. "I dont doubt that, its just-..." She cut herself off as she looked out the window and rubbed her arm nervously, "..I..I have to visit my...grandma, shes in the hospital" Bia could hear sudden fast muffled beating. Locking her eyes on Aleyna she noticed her chest going up and down at a quick subtle rate. She gave her a sidelong glace before she seen Leilah give the new girl visible confusion before pulling another smile, this one less genuine than the one before. "Just think about it and come find me for the address if you want to come." She said before walking away not giving the other girl time to respond.
"Theres a party this week" Bia spoke all of sudden, making Yemmi jump before the two girls made eye contact. "How-" Bia just shook her head towards Aleyna who was still at her locker. "I heard Leilah say shes throwing a party this Friday."
"When?"
"Just now?"
Bia spoke as if it was obivious, Yemmi shook her head in disbelief. "Girl that was halfway down the freaking hallway, how did you hear that from all the way over here?" She didnt even notice how far they were from one another, she took a moment before shrugging. "Its quiet I guess.." She muttered, Yemmi hearing anyway rolled her eyes before crossing her arms just as before. "You're trying to downplay this but im telling you something is happening to us-"
Bia groaned before thunking her head against the lockers a bit. The two girls didnt speak for a moment, the bell soon took up the silence. "Okay, well Leilah had invited Aleyna to her party, but she declined and gave a reason but it was pretty obvious she was lying" She said before turning back to her best friend. Yemmi shrugged once again, "And how the hell do you know that?" She sighed before pinching the bridge of her nose.
"I could hear it...see it almost.." Yemmi eyes widened in disbelief before nodding her head and turning away in thought, "Okay well, until we figure out what the fuck- lets just go to that party.." Bia shrugged in agreement. "Okay"
Since then the girls decided to take it easy until after the party, going to school and doing their work and returning back to their job. Not mentioning anything to their parents, soon enough it was 7pm Friday and time for the party.
The moon shined bright in the sky, completely full in the sky.
"Are you alright?" Yemmi asked, Bia had been feeling a little off since this morning but she just took it as her pre period symptoms starting and shook it off. "Yeah, lets just have some fun tonight" She smiled at Yemmi before grabbing her hand and together walked to the back of Leilahs house and was met with loads of dancing bodies surrounded by loud music and pretty fairy lights that decorated the fence that outlined the party. There was a designated spot for food and spiked drinks for the teenagers to wild out on.
The first hour the girls arrived there we dancing, drinking and socializing with the few people they knew there. "You'd think since its at her house, she'd actually be here" Yemmi said as she rolled her eyes. Her body leaned on the side of the house, her 5th drink in hand. Bia just let out a slight laugh, she couldnt shake this odd feeling she was having. Her body ached and she could slowly feel a headache coming but she just figured it was from her dancing and drinking too much, speaking of she looked at the cup in her hand and noticed she didnt really feel that drunk, actually she didnt even feel drunk at all. "Hey..are you sure you're alright?" Yemmi asked after she downed the rest of her drink, her hands finding the middle of Bia's back to give her comforting rubs.
"Yeah..I just, dont feel good I guess?" She said questionably, looking over to her friend. She could feel her body start to heat up as sweat collected on her forehead, Yemmi noticed the girls sudden hot flash, "Alright, bathroom break-" The older girl guided the younger towards the house and inside to the bathroom. It took awhile since neither of them knew where they were going and it was fairly crowded.
"Fucking finally.." Yemmi mumbled as she closed the door behind them and walked over to open the toilet lid. Bia said nothing as the odd feeling that stemmed from her core manifested into physical symptoms, long sharp pains suddenly filled her body caused her to drop onto the floor with a loud gasp. Her hands grasping to clench on to tile floors that decorated the bathroom. "Bia?!" Yemmi exclaimed before reaching out to help her.
Bia screamed out in pain as the pains grew more, taking over her entire body as it twisted and turned as if her bones were reshaping themselves. Her hands now clawing at her face in despair, "Help me!!!" She pleaded in pain as she felt hair growing from face, Yemmi was in shock. The best friend was stuck in flight of fight mode, her body choosing to do neither and freeze instead.
Bia's manicured nails soon grew longer, her mouth began to ache in pain as well. She stumbled a lot before she was able to get off of the floor and shakingly held onto the bathroom sink as she looked in the mirror. Yemmi placed her hands over her mouth as tears gathered in her eyes in fear. Bia's eyes were now glowing bright yellow, her face has reconstructed itself and she had hair growing from the sides of her face.
She felt another sharp pain in her mouth, she winced before opening her mouth and noticing all her teeth were considerably more sharp than the night a couple days ago.
In the mirror she could see out the window out of her peripherals, she could see the full moon in all its glory. Shining bright as she could almost feel its energy flowing through her.
She quickly noticed her senses were more enhanced as she could hear the music, the people from outside, people kissing in corners and secret conversations that weren't to be spilled the next day. She could smell the perfume, weed, alcohol and sex all mixed together into the air.
Most importantly she could hear the frantic heartbeat of her best friend Yemmi who looked absolutely terrified of her.
She could feel to judgement radiating off of her, the fear falling off her in waves as she stood there frozen just staring at her. Feeling overwhelmed by everything going on Bia looked back at the moon once more, a low growl clawing to come out of her throat before rushing to the door and running away.
It was a few seconds before Yemmi could snap out of it, wiping her tears she took a deep breath and looked out the window. Glancing at the full moon in desperate need of answers, even if she thought it was silly and far fetched she wondered if it had anything to do with it
