A notification flashed on their retina but they chose to ignore them. They were quite interested in the offers of their employer.
Since the mission seemed to be very risky.
The higher the risk, the greater the rewards most of the time! Also, they didn't have much of a choice since this was the only good mission Vincent managed to find
The interesting look on their face was visible and it couldn't be hidden from their sharp eyes of Daniel.
"Are you guys interested?" Daniel asked
"We are quite interested, but what about our pay?" Myles asked after a few seconds.
"You will get 1500 universal coins if you complete the mission. If you manage to kill a thief, then you will get an additional 1000 universal coins," The middle-aged man replied.
A frown formed on both Myles and Vincent. Since the pay was far too low for the risk!! The frown on Vincent's forehead was even deeper.
"Didn't you say that you will give us 2500 universal coins during the first meeting?" Vincent said, his voice carrying frustration.
"Ahah yes, but things have changed now. The skills of the two of you aren't too great. That's why the low pay," Daniel replied calmly.
Upon hearing that the frown on their face deepened. They were pretty sure this wasn't the reason since getting any more skilled warriors in such a short time was not possible. There must be something else.
"I suggest you guys make a decision carefully. I doubt you will get any good job opportunities while keeping your real identity hidden" Daniel said.
Upon hearing this Myles realized what was the real reason for reducing their pay. It's because they had no other job opportunities!!
However, it was completely unknown how he managed to determine this. As he thought about it for a few seconds, Myles found a possible reason.
"Is it because we were very enthusiastic to do the job?" Myles pondered.
As he thought about this possibility for a few seconds, he realized that this was the likely reason. He inwardly cursed and promised to never let his employer know that he was interested!
"What do I do?" Myle thought to himself.
Myles was confused about what he should do. Since Daniel was right, they probably won't get a good quest in a short time. As he was pondering what to do, a notification flashed in his mind.
(Vincent: Have a look at the reward section in the system)
Myles read the message sent by Vincent. He did as he was told and read the notification that he had ignored prior
(Congratulations you have received a new grade: E guest)
(Escorting the vehicle Grade: E
Description:
You have received a job request to protect a vehicle full of goods that is going to arrive tonight.
Rewards: 1500 universal coins upon completion, 1000 universal coins after claiming the life of each enemy, and 5k exp receive upon completion
Penalty: None)
(Do you wish to accept?)
Myles widened his eyes when he saw the last rewards. 5k exp as a reward was too great for him to resist!! As someone who was trying to level up quickly to complete his S-grade quest, this experience was too attractive to him!
Moreover, the system will probably reward him exp if he manages to kill his enemies. Hence, increasing the amount of exp that he could receive!!
This much experience was probably enough for him to level up by 10! However, he quickly calmed himself down. Having learned his lesson from the first time, he didn't want to get ripped off by his employer anymore.
He chatted with Vincent for a few seconds before ultimately accepting the quest.
(You have accepted the E-grade quest Escorting the vehicle)
"All right, we have accepted the quest" Myles and Vincent said simultaneously.
Daniel grinned upon hearing this, and he quickly took out some paper.
"For the past few years, it has become a tradition to write down our agreement officially. Please read and sign the papers" Daniel said as he handed them the paper.
Though they looked a bit surprised, they still nodded and began to read the paper. It took roughly 30 minutes for the paperwork to be officially completed.
"Great, everything is officially complete," Daniel said.
"What should we do now?" Vincent asked.
"Head to the gate from where my vehicle is going to arrive. You will be escorted by an employee of mine.
There are also other fighters that I have recruited. Try to get along with them" Daniel said.
The requests made by Daniel weren't unreasonable. Hence, they nodded their heads in approval.
"Do you have enough ammunition?" Myles asked Vincent
"Yeah, a lot," Vincent replied.
A few minutes later, Daniel called an employee to escort them.
"Escort them to the gate where the vehicle is going to arrive," Daniel said.
The employee nodded and signaled Myles to follow behind him.
Myles and Vincent didn't say anything. They wordlessly began to follow the employee after they got out of the building.
One hour later
A big gate, which was a few meters tall, stood just a few meters away from Myles and Vincent.
There were two fighters with spears on their hands which Myles assumed were the guards of the gate. All of their attention was drawn towards the gate as they scanned it from top to bottom.
The employee coughed up to get their attention away from the gate.
"Please follow me, I will lead you to the other fighter recruited by Sir Daniel," The woman said.
"Where are the others recruited by Sir Daniel?" Myles asked.
"They are in that building owned by us," The woman said, pointing towards the building.
A small building stood in the direction she pointed towards. The building was just a bit better than the normal building that civilians stayed in.
Nonetheless, they made their way towards the building just a second later. Upon arriving at the door, they opened the door and entered.
Upon entering, Myles swept his gaze across the entire room. The room was very big and had a very large table in the center.
There were 15 people in the room. Some wielded guns, swords, spears, or modern-looking melee weapons standing in front of the table.
What surprised Myles was that out of 15 of them, 10 were players like himself!!
The player also wore a mask and an outfit that covered their entire body to hide themselves signaling that they were anything but dumb
There were only 5 people who were NPCs.
The majority of the names of players were hidden.
The player stared at them like they were trying to probe deep into their souls.
As they were staring at one another, a voice resounded through their ears causing them to temporarily stop working.
"Caption, please come here," The woman requested.
An old man with hair as white as snow itself walked towards Myles and the others. A profound sense of authority was being emitted from the man. When the man got close enough, he halted his steps.
"Why have you called me here? I am busy formulating a strategy." The old man replied, his voice carrying dissatisfaction.
"I just want to introduce them to you," The woman said.
The old man waved his hand signaling her to continue.
"Celestial Swordkeeper and Devil Gunner, he is the captain of our escort team. You must follow all orders that he issues to you" The woman said.
They nodded their heads in approval. Hell, even if she didn't say anything, his aura was alone enough to make them obey his commands. The caption inspected them for a few seconds before turning his attention to the secretary.
"I have a feeling that you didn't call me here for me to meet him only," The caption asked, his voice carrying seriousness.
The secretary just smiled slightly as he out something from her pocket, signaling that it was not the only reason for her visit
"Take this," The woman said as he took out two circular modern-looking gadgets from her pockets.
"What is this?" The caption asked, a frown formed on his forehead.
"This is the communication device which is developed by the Zenithian Concord. This device will allow you to talk with anyone as long as you know the person's number and are connected to the servers of the concord." The woman remarked as she handed him the gadgets.
Myles and Vincent both widened their eyes in shock since they didn't expect such modern technology to exist in a kingdom-age world!!
The caption began to inspect the gadget that he had gotten. As for talking with them? He behaved like they didn't even exist in the first place!!
"How does this thing work? Also, how did you manage to get your hand on this?" The caption asked.
She shook her head, refusing to reveal the origins of the gadget. However, she did teach him to use the gadget, and Myles closely listened to her.
"It works exactly like a smartphone," Myles thought to himself.
The gadget itself had a unique number. Well, you can guess the rest.
After explaining how to use the gadget. The woman didn't linger around for long and left shortly after, leaving them alone.
