After the departure of the woman, Myles scanned the old man from top to bottom. The man wore a simple white robe, he had scars on his face. Hence, enhancing his sense of authority.
"Follow me" A calm yet authoritative voice resounded through his ears.
This caused them to stop whatever they were doing!! The captain began to walk towards the table where the others were.
They followed behind him. As Myles walked towards the table, he took a look around him. All the NPC had reached their middle age judging from their appearance.
Every NPC had some kind of scar on their body, it gave Myles the sense all of them had rich combat experiences.
As for the player, well they were like children compared to the NPC in terms of combat experiences. Nonetheless, he kept walking.
When they got close enough, the player created space for them to stand alongside them.
As for the NPC, they stood on the other side of the table alongside the captain.
Upon reaching the table, they saw a map lying on top of the table. Some locations on the map were marked.
As he was analyzing the map, a voice resounded through his ears.
"Please introduce yourself" The old man demanded as he stared at Myles like a hawk.
However, Myles felt uncomfortable by his gaze. He still tried to answer his question carefully.
"My name is Celestial Swordkeeper as you know it. I am a Grade E- swordsman" Myles replied.
"Do you have anything that you specialize in?" The captain asked.
"Currently, I don't have any notable special ability to speak off, but that will surely change in the future.
However, I can maintain some level of performance regardless if you assigned me to protect or destroy something or someone." Myles replied after careful consideration.
Myles believed that swords could be used to both protect and destroy anything. He truly believed that he could maintain the same level of performance in both circumstances!
"I have not heard any swordsman apart from knights who are trained to protect nobles with their life say this. Swordsmen tend to only think about slicing down their enemies." The captain exclaimed he looked a bit interested in him.
"I am different sir," Myles replied.
"Do you have any battle experience?" The captain asked, his voice carrying seriousness.
Myles didn't reply immediately. He knew that his answer might determine his importance in the escort team. After a few seconds of thinking, he decided to just tell the truth.
"I have fought to the death with a few beasts and people," Myles replied; he sounded honest.
The captain didn't look impressive in the least. He looked slightly disappointed.
"You have some minimal battle experience," The captain said with a sigh.
Afterward, he diverted his attention toward Vincent. He began to ask him similar questions but Vincent carefully replied.
A few minutes later, the questioning session ended shortly after. Causing an awkward silence to descend around them. The captain had closed his eyes as if in deep thought.
The players didn't dare to utter a single word in fear of angering the captain.
"You two will be part of our attacking team" The captain exclaimed.
"Pardon sir?" Myles said he sounded confused.
Even Vincent appeared equally confused!!
As far as they knew they just had to escort the armored transportation vehicle to safety, making the mission a protecting mission. So where the hell did an attacking team come from!!??
Almost like reading their thoughts. Another NPC decided to fill them in.
"Our employer, Daniel, has hired dozens of fighters to escort the armored transportation vehicle safely, but all of them have been overwhelmed by the thief.
We aren't naive enough to believe that we can defeat them while sticking to the same strategy. Hence, we have decided to form another team to attack them before they attack us!" Another middle-aged man said.
A frown formed on Myles's head when he heard that.
"Sir, do we even know their locations?" Myles asked, his voice carrying doubt.
The captain grinned upon hearing this.
"Thanks to the data that we have collected from countless fighters who have fought against those thieves.
We have managed to find a pattern in their attacks and a lot of other things!" The captain exclaimed, his voice carrying confidence.
"What might that pattern be?" Myles asked, his voice carrying curiosity.
"I will tell you if you agree to follow my arrangements," The captain remarked.
Myles and Vincent nodded their heads. Well, it wasn't like they had any other choices.
The captain nodded his head in satisfaction when he heard that. The captain signaled everyone to remain silent before he began to speak.
"Before telling you about the pattern, let me tell you who is going to be a part of the attacking team," The leader said as he turned his attention toward three NPCs standing not too far away.
The leader pointed his finger at 7 different people including Myles and Vincent. Hence, revealing the member of the attacking team shortly after.
"Kevin and John will lead the attacking team," The captain said calmly.
Myles looked around him, intending to observe the members of the attacking team.
Out of the 7 people whom the captain had pointed toward, 5 of them were players, including them. As for the other 2, they were NPC who were emitting a pressure much greater than their own.
"The NPC is very strong," Myles thought to himself.
However, there was one thing that caused me to frown. Was the leader not going to accompany them? He decided to just ask.
"Leader, what about you?" Myles asked.
"My presence is needed in case the armored transportation vehicle is attacked," The captain replied.
Though, Myles wanted to say something. He knew for a fact that the leader was probably right.
"Anyways, After making a countless observation, we have managed to determine that the thieves usually raid our armored transportation vehicle when our armored transportation vehicle is 1km, 5km, 10km, 15km, and 20 km away from reaching our destination," The old man exclaimed, his voice carrying seriousness.
Myles frowned heavily when he heard that. It just didn't make enough for the thieves to resort to a pattern to attack. After all, wasn't there a great chance of the thieves being attacked by their enemies if they managed to crack this pattern?
Myles felt voicing out his worries but he stopped after giving it a thought.
"They are probably aware of the risk themselves," Myles thought to himself.
Seeing the frown on Myles and Vincent's forehead, the captain knew that they harbored doubts, but he didn't feel like clearing them.
"Are you ok with my arrangements??" The captain said, this time his voice carried a bit of authority.
Myles and Vincent helplessly nodded their heads, knowing that they couldn't oppose his orders.
"Good, for now, the meeting is dismissed. We, the senior members of the team, will discuss something privately until then get to know each other better.
Though, keep in mind I don't want any trouble" Thr captain said, his voice carrying authority.
The captain signaled the NPC to follow him. They did as told and followed closely behind him, leaving the players alone with one another. The player stared at both Myles as if trying to scan their souls.
Soon after the departure of the NPCs, a player wordlessly walked toward Myles and Vincent. Though the player didn't seem to be carrying any hostility, both Myles and Vincent remained on guard.
When the player got close enough, he extended one of his hands towards them. Hence, demanding a handshake.
"Hi, my name is Dark Knight; nice to meet you," The player said as he extended his hand as if demanding a handshake.
Though reluctant, Myles still shook hands with him.
"Nice to meet you; my name is Celestial Swordkeeper," Myles replied as he shook his hand.
"You two must be very capable to be eligible for this job," Dark Knight replied with a smile.
"We just got lucky" Vincent replied with a shrug.
"I am on the attacking team. We are on the same team, we should have a chat with one another." Dark Knight said.
Though reluctant, they ultimately decided to have a chat with one another.
After that, they engaged in a long conversation which lasted for a few hours. They talked about each other's class and much more. The other players seemed to be very open-minded and enthusiastic to talk with one another, causing their impression of one another to improve.
Myles got to know a lot about them in the last four hours besides their class. The 10 players were each other's friends who decided to play together.
They happened to stumble upon this job out of pure luck, just like them!
As they were talking with one another, the door leading outside the building slammed open. The sound of the communication device ringing resounded through his ears.
The captain narrowed his eyes and quickly picked up the call. Afterward, the voice of the secretary of the woman resounded through their ears, dropping very important news.
"Everyone be prepared to head out; the armored transportation vehicle is going to arrive within half an hour," The woman said, her voice carrying seriousness.
