Chereads / The Cursed Bloodline- Alex_Blackwood Story / Chapter 2 - Chapter 1: Moving In

Chapter 2 - Chapter 1: Moving In

The next morning, after the events of the previous night, was rather calm. The movers came in early and helped Alex move his furniture. He now had a four-cushion couch, a coffee table, and most importantly, his queen-sized bed with memory foam. He also went shopping in the morning and bought some food to fill his fridge. While he wasn't human, he still liked to eat good food, so he taught himself how to make food. Everyone who had eaten his food fell in love with his cooking, so to say he had talent would be an understatement.

After shopping, he decided to leave and go exploring around the town; it was a Sunday after all, so he had free time before his university classes would begin. Redfall University was a very small college, with only a few hundred students, which made it perfect for Alex. Alex wanted to stay far away from the big cities; there was too much activity from the supernatural groups for his liking. As Alex walked around, he saw police cars at the ends of a familiar alleyway.

Police Officer: This area is zoned off; please continue walking.

Person: But what happened?

Police Officer: I cannot say the details; just know there is no need to be afraid. Please continue on with your day.

Person: I heard it was a vampire attack; is that true?!

Police Officer: Like I said, I cannot confirm or deny; I only can-

???: It was something supernatural.

Suddenly, a man wearing a black suit walked past the cop.

???: My name is Investigator Jacob Dunn. I am with the SCA. Regarding the attack last night, all we can confirm is that a supernatural being was involved. The witness said an unknown being attacked a vampire that had killed their friend. The two fought, and she escaped in the confusion.

Person: But you don't know what it was?

Jacob: No, while the witness said it was a second vampire, some of the details of the event don't match or make sense. But I promise, we are looking into it and will come to a conclusion very soon.

Newswoman: Are you the only investigator here?

Jacob: No, I am joined by my wife. This is a small town, so we doubt there are any major supernatural beings in the area. The dead vampire was no more than a common class, with very little threat overall. The unknown being is more than likely something of a similar class. We'll have this figured out quickly. Now, no more questions.

Jacob entered a black-tinted SUV and left with the crowd still asking questions. Alex spotted the ambulance picking up a dead body in a gurney with a sheet covering them. More than likely, it was that Dana girl who died last night. Alex remembered the story that he told the girl who survived, and it seemed she had followed his instructions for the most part.

Alex: At least she kept her word.

Alex walked away and kept exploring the town, but the guy in the suit stayed in his mind.

Alex: Investigators...fuck. I drew too much attention; hopefully, if I stay quiet, they'll kill some other vamp and think that it was me. Just have to stay normal.

Alex started to walk through the local park, where there were a few people playing around or having a picnic. After all, it was a beautiful day. Summer was ending soon, so there weren't that many more chances to enjoy the sun.

???: HEY! WATCH OUT!

Alex turned his head towards the voice and saw a football heading directly at his head. In a quick motion, Alex caught the football, which surprised the people who threw it.

???: H-Hey, I'm so sorry; my little brother is still learning how to play and, well...throw.

The boy who ran up, apologizing, had short blonde hair and brown eyes. He looked a little older than Alex, but not by much.

Alex: It's not a problem; it happens.

???: Really? Thanks for being cool about it; some people would just flip out.

Alex: Nothing bad happened, so it's fine.

???: Still great reflexes though, you play sports?

Alex: Not really, no.

???: Really? Thinking about joining one?

Alex: I can't say I ever have.

???: Well, you should think about it. Are you going to the university?

Alex: Yeah, I'm joining tomorrow.

???: Then you should try out for the football team with me. It's a small school, but we're only a 3-year-old program. We need all the players we can get.

Alex: So you're on it?

???: Yeah, I'm the starting QB this year. Name's Jordan.

Alex: I see. I'll think about it, but no promises.

Jordan: We need some receivers, so it would help! By the way, what's your name?

Alex: Alex Morgan.

Jordan: Well, it's nice to meet you; maybe I'll see you tomorrow at the college.

Alex: Maybe. See you, Jordan.

Alex left the park and ended up back at the diner. He saw Aurora serving customers through the window but had decided not to head in.

Alex: Going back twice in less than 12 hours? Not trying to be creepy; maybe tomorrow though.

Alex headed back home, where he saw Ms. Chen struggling to carry a box to the elevator.

Alex: Here, let me help with that.

He grabbed the box from Ms. Chen's hands, and she looked at him relieved.

Ms. Chen: Thank you, Alex...my back isn't what it used to be. Could you be a dear and deliver this for me? Room 304.

Alex: Sure, Ms. Chen, no problem.

Ms. Chen: You're such a good young man. I wish my granddaughter met someone as kind as you, but no, she had to go and get pregnant by a guy who plays guitar poorly.

Alex: Sounds...rough?

Ms. Chen: Then she comes and asks me for money. I don't understand it.

Alex: It sounds like she sees you as a bailout. My suggestion is: don't let her take advantage of your kindness.

Ms. Chen: I try not to, but she hasn't had an easy life. I just wish she followed her dreams, that's all.

Alex: ...I know that feeling.

Ms. Chen: Look at me prattle on. Sorry, you probably don't care what I have to say anyway.

Alex: It's not like that; sometimes it's good to vent out your frustrations. It helps relieve the stress.

Ms. Chen: Thank you again.

Alex: No problem; let me just deliver this now.

Ms. Chen: Have a good night, Alex!

Alex: You too, Ms. Chen.

Alex delivered the box to the room and walked back to his apartment. There he made herb-crusted chicken breast and some corn before falling asleep.

*Police Station*

Police Officer 1: I still can't get over that vampire case.

Police Officer 2: I mean, it's not often it happens; supernatural deaths aren't that common here. Victims sure, but dead supernatural—that's just weird.

Police Officer 1: Right! Most of the vamps here keep to themselves, think there's infighting?

Police Officer 2: I just wish it wasn't here. Now I have to make sure my children don't go out at night.

Police Officer 1: I got a teenage girl; she's too damn stubborn to listen to me.

Police Officer 2: Shit...

Jacob: Enough water cooler talk; it's time to get to work. So tell me, what are the local supernatural groups like around here?

Police Officer 1: R-Right. Well, there's the Phoenix Gang, a small group of vampires. They're relatively quiet; they mostly just stick together and protect their own.

Jacob: I see...

Police Officer 2: Then there's the Atlas Tribe in the forest, a group of werewolves that our mayor made a deal with.

Jacob: A deal?

Police Officer 2: For the past hundred years or so, every mayor has made a deal with the Atlas Tribe. We stay out of their woods, and they stay out of our city.

Jacob: Any chance they broke this deal?

Police Officer 1: Doubt it, unless the vampires here attacked them, they wouldn't get involved, and the vampires here aren't strong enough to pick a fight they won't win.

Police Officer 2: It's possible it was just a stray fighting over a meal, like that girl said.

Jacob: Yeah, the thing is... she said one of them had blue eyes. That's the worrying part.

Police Officer 1: How so?

Jacob: As you know, commonly, vampires have red eyes; however, this only applies to the bottom three classes of vampires. Thralls, Common Class, and Noble Class. Then there's the two classes above them, the Royal and Ruler classes. They don't typically have red eyes since they come from rare bloodlines that have mutated for centuries...and they are all extremely powerful. So it's possibly our blue eyes here—one of them.

Police Officer 2: But what would a Royal or Ruler Class be doing here?

Jacob: That's what I plan to find out.
