"Did Lucian send you?" Shana's voice broke the silence of the library as she glanced up from her book.
"No, but I was just making sure that all the recruits were in and not messing around," the young man replied, his tone casual.
"What, so you're now a hall monitor or something?" Shana retorted, a hint of sarcasm in her voice.
He looked at her, then at the books, and finally at the time. "It's late, you should get back to your room," he suggested.
Shana rolled her eyes. "I don't need you to tell me what to do." She returned her focus to her book, determined to ignore him.
Not willing to be dismissed, he walked to the nearby shelf and picked up a random book, pretending to read. But Shana was too distracted to concentrate on her own reading, stealing glances at him every so often.
Unable to contain her frustration any longer, she slammed her book shut. "You do know you're a distraction, right?" she snapped, her annoyance evident.
He looked up from his book, seemingly unperturbed. "I don't think so. I haven't done anything," he replied calmly, his eyes returning to the pages before him.
Shana sighed in exasperation, realizing that arguing with him would only waste more time. With a final glare in his direction, she gathered her things and left the library, determined to find a quieter place to continue her reading.
