Chapter 16 - Utilization

"Wait a minute, the door was locked just now. It can't be opened from the outside. How did he get in?" someone realized and said in astonishment.

Even if a thief has the skills to pick a lock, it's only possible if the door isn't deadbolted.

After all, once the door is deadbolted, it can only be opened from the inside.

Several people were puzzled, but no one could figure out the mystery.

"And he came from outside. Does that mean it's safe out there now and there are no more zombies on our floor?"

"Did anyone recognize that guy just now? He looked unfamiliar, like he's not a resident on our floor."

"Could it be that there are no zombies outside anymore?"

"Should we go out and check?"

Everyone was tempted. If there were no zombies outside, they could go out and gather supplies.

The food at home was running low, and if they didn't gather supplies soon, they would run out of food.

A few people discussed it but still couldn't make up their minds. It wasn't an easy decision to make.

If there were still zombies outside and they encountered them, it would be a dead end.

Suddenly, there was a click, and the previously locked door was opened again.

Everyone was stunned.

Behind the open door, a pale face appeared in front of them.

It was a zombie.

The sudden appearance of the zombie frightened everyone.

"Quick, close the door!"

But it was too late to close the door.

The door was pushed open, and a large group of zombies rushed in.

Everyone was terrified by the scene before them.

They weren't afraid of humans and were ready to launch a group attack when they saw Sylas come in.

But when faced with a group of zombies, they were so scared that their hands and feet went limp.

After all, these were zombies, terrifying creatures. If a zombie broke even a bit of their skin, they would be doomed.

That's why they were so afraid of zombies.

"Run!"

Someone shouted and turned to flee.

But the house was only so big; where could they run to?

More zombies poured into the room, leaving them with no place to hide.

Some tried to fight back, but there were too many zombies. Dozens of zombies were attacking them in such a small room.

They didn't even have a chance to fight.

Amidst the screams, they were bitten to death by the zombies and then eaten.

These scumbags deserved their fate.

The most innocent one was probably the woman they had bullied.

She also died in the mouths of the zombies.

But before she died, she saw those who had bullied her being bitten to death by the zombies as well.

In her final moments, she found relief.

Sylas stood at the door, silently watching the scene.

He had once thought about saving the woman but ultimately decided against it.

After all, they were not related, and it wasn't worth the risk for him.

Besides, in times like these, an early death might also be a form of release.

These zombies were, of course, lured by Sylas.

Sylas had opened the doors of the other units, attracting all the zombies.

Then he used his lock-picking skills to open the door and let the zombies in.

With such simple actions, Sylas had eliminated all these thugs he couldn't deal with himself.

Sylas silently locked the door, trapping the zombies inside.

There were too many zombies in the room, and Sylas wasn't confident he could handle them, so for now, it was better to keep them confined.

All the zombies on this floor were now in that room.

It's just that Sylas couldn't deal with them at the moment.

Sylas continued to the next floor to clear out the zombies there.

With the lessons learned from this experience, Sylas became even more cautious.

Now, what threatened him were not zombies but the survivors hiding in the rooms.

Fortunately, such thug survivors were relatively few.

The other survivors in the building wouldn't attack Sylas on sight.

If he found someone agreeable, Sylas would even give them some food.

But unfortunately, he still hadn't encountered anyone who could be recognized by the system as an exceptional slave.

The task of acquiring exceptional slaves could be done repeatedly, so Sylas naturally hoped to find more of them.

However, finding exceptional slaves was rare and not easily attainable.

With a click, another door was opened.

Sylas didn't enter immediately but cautiously observed the interior.

The room was very clean and well-decorated, indicating that the original owner was definitely wealthy and had good taste.

A giant photo of a woman hung in the living room. The woman in the photo was beautiful and looked very familiar.

Sylas looked closely at the photo and suddenly recognized the woman—it was Sydney.

Sydney was a fashion influencer who often posted fashion content online.

Sylas enjoyed watching her work.

He never expected she would live here.

Sylas suddenly remembered that he had encountered a very stunning woman in the elevator before.

But that woman always wore a mask, so he never saw her face.

Could the masked woman be Sydney?

What a coincidence if it was.

"Sydney, are you there?"

Sylas suddenly shouted.

Crash.

A sound of a plate dropping came from the bedroom.

A hint of joy flashed in Sylas's eyes.
