Chapter 17 - The Second Candidate

There was a noise in the bedroom. Could it be that Sydney wasn't dead and was hiding in there?

It's possible!

Let's go check the bedroom.

With this thought, Sylas walked towards the bedroom. The door was locked from the inside.

But that wasn't a problem. Sylas used his lock-picking skills to unlock it.

With a click, the lock opened.

The door swung open.

Inside the bedroom, a woman appeared before Sylas.

It was Sydney.

Sylas recognized her instantly.

Sydney was holding a pair of scissors, clearly on guard against Sylas.

Seeing that Sylas was alone and a handsome young man, she breathed a sigh of relief.

Sydney wasn't a naive girl; she knew how bad people could be in times like these.

So even though Sylas was alone, she still held the scissors, ready to defend herself.

Sylas didn't speak. He just looked Sydney up and down, admiring her beautiful figure.

Nice, really beautiful.

He wondered if Sydney would meet the system's criteria.

"Exceptional slave candidate detected, Sydney, score 93."

Sylas's luck was incredible. He had found his second exceptional slave candidate.

Sylas smiled warmly and said, "I know you. You're Sydney, right?"

"I'm a fan of yours. I follow your work and enjoy your content."

Hearing that Sylas was a fan made Sydney relax a bit.

At least if he was a fan, he probably wouldn't harm her.

"Thank you for following me. I'm Sydney. Are you alone?" Sydney glanced behind Sylas.

Sylas smiled and said, "Don't look. I'm alone, but I have my woman back home."

"I used to live here, but now I've moved to the villa area."

"My woman lives in a villa, and now I'm staying at her place."

"It's just the two of us at home, which is a bit lonely. Would you like to come over?"

"We have food and water, and I'll protect you."

Sylas's intention was to lure Sydney back to his home first.

"No, I want to stay here and wait for the national rescue. I don't want to go anywhere," Sydney said hurriedly.

She was still very wary of strangers.

At least in her own home, she felt safe. But going to someone else's place? Who knew what might happen there?

Sylas nodded and said, "I see. I understand. I won't force you. You can stay here peacefully."

"By the way, be careful. On my way up, I saw some men downstairs bullying women."

"You know, there's no law anymore. Many people have turned into thugs."

"Especially pretty girls like you are more likely to be targeted. Be sure they don't find you while you're hiding."

"Thank you, I will be careful," Sydney said cautiously.

In reality, she was also wary of Sylas.

After all, she didn't know Sylas well and wasn't going to easily trust what he said.

"Alright then, I'll be going. Take care."

With that, Sylas turned and left.

Seeing Sylas leave, Sydney breathed a sigh of relief.

However, she didn't see Sylas head straight to her kitchen, where he saw there was no food left. Only then did he smile.

With no food, Sylas wondered how long Sydney could hold out.

"There are still zombies outside. Be careful."

Sylas said at the door and then left.

This time, he really left, even closing the door behind him.

Hearing the door close, Sydney hurried out and checked around the room. After confirming that Sylas was gone, she finally relaxed completely.

Just now, she had been truly terrified.

"How did that guy open the door? I thought I had locked it," Sydney suddenly realized.

But now Sylas was already gone.

Even if she wanted to ask, there was no one to ask.

Suddenly, a strange noise came from the door.

Sydney's heart skipped a beat. She walked to the door and cautiously looked outside through the peephole.

What she saw almost scared her to death.

There were three zombies wandering outside her door.

Sydney didn't even dare to breathe loudly.

Yes, these three zombies were lured by Sylas to block the door.

On one hand, this ensured that Sydney wouldn't dare to go outside. On the other hand, with zombies guarding the door, other survivors wouldn't dare to come here, thereby ensuring Sydney's safety.

Sylas treated these zombies like his pets.

Sylas continued clearing out zombies.

Meanwhile, he also looked for other potential exceptional slaves.

But unfortunately, exceptional slaves were not easy to find.

Moreover, an exceptional slave had to willingly submit. Forcing someone wouldn't work, as the system wouldn't recognize them if they weren't truly willing.

So Sylas couldn't use violence to threaten someone into becoming his slave.

Although he couldn't use violence, that didn't mean Sylas couldn't use other means to make someone his slave.

In peacetime, these tactics wouldn't work.

But now, in the apocalypse, things were different.
