Chapter 2 - I'm hungry

The cool evening breeze blew against the pavement picking up leaves along the road for a spin before dropping them and blowing gently against his skin. All sorts of people walked across the street, some on their way back home from work while others about to start their night shifts.

He on the other hand sat on his favorite wooden bench, the perfect spot for observation. He stared at each person trying to figure out what might be going through their head as they each passed by.

That is… for as long as he could before he got distracted once again by the roaring of his stomach.

You see his stomach had been going on these frequent little protests of his and it had been doing so for quite a while now unending even after Luck presented his terms.

'There would be food at least once in 3 days, a very good offer if I do say so myself but my stomach is blinded by greed!'

The little guy had gotten way too used to the good life, but those days were over now. He was back to the plain old boring life.

'I should probably look for a job somewhere, a different type of job this time. Or maybe just go to school like everyone else? Hmm decisions decisions.' He pondered as he entertained himself by watching the pedestrians.

He was now watching the road upside down from the bench, his dark blue hair slowly swaying in the breeze.

"Feel like eating something, Luck?" A voice came from above him, it was Arlder!

"Oh, it looks like my savior has arrived."

He quickly adjusted himself on the bench and got up on his feet. "I'm not hungry but I can eat."

"What are you in the mood for?" Arlder asked as he watched the hungry boy run the various options he had through his mind. He knew what he was eventually going to settle for, the same thing he had picked the last three times they met.

"Noodles, a very large bowl of noodles."

"You seem to be eating more of that foreign food lately, why don't you have something different, like steak?" Arlder asked.

"Maybe another time, I have this craving I need to satisfy."

"Then maybe you should get a job instead of staring at people all day."

"I'm done with working for people," Luck retorted as they both walked in the direction of the ramen shop.

The ramen shop was a small Japanese style restaurant that was newly opened in the area. As he walked in the familiar scent of steaming noodles, eggs and garlic assaulted his senses. "I'm home!"

"The usual Kirigaya."

"How are you doing Luck? Finally got some luck in job hunting or is the gentleman paying for you this time as well?"

"No luck yet boss." 'Not like I'm even trying to look for one.' He considered saying but there was a weirdo sitting right next to him and this weirdo was paying.

The steaming bowl came shortly, and after the first bowl there was a second. Strangely enough Arlder didn't eat anything, he seemed to be oddly satisfied with just staring at him as he ate.

This made Luck feel bad for the guy. 'He's probably thinking of cutting me loose isn't he? How much is this going to cost?' Luck thought feeling a little guilty, Arlder was paying for everything after all.

His stomach on the other hand was unremorseful, demanding bowl after bowl the bill only getting larger with each bowl he consumed. It was missing a whole 3 days worth of food after all and couldn't bring himself to blame the guy.

"Wake up, Luck." He heard someone scream in his ear just before he felt a jerk. When he opened his eyes he found himself airborne freely falling from 10 stories high.

"Woah woah woah, what is going on?!" Below him was Arlder a smirk on his face as he watched him accelerate towards the pavement. 'I knew something was off, he was too quiet today!'

"If you don't do something you're going to fall." Arlder yelled. And then he said something that Luck couldn't place and began running in the air until he got close to speaking range. "You could even die," he whispered.

"Woah, Arlder, buddy! Let's be reasonable here. How do you expect me to survive this without an enigma?" Luck asked panic beginning to take the place of his normal demeanor as he approached the ground.

"I don't know really, use your head I guess?"

"Okay, okay, okay I'll get a job!"

"Wait seriously?" He asked a smile appearing on his face as he was now descending at the same pace as Luck.

"Yes, I'm being serious this time!" The ground was getting closer with each passing second.

"Wait you have to promise, pinky swear it!"

"Well that's weird."

"Okay then," he said as he took a step back still in the air.

"Okay okay okay." They interlocked fingers, the deal was complete.

"Ahh finally you'll be getting a job," Arlder said thoroughly satisfied with the deal they had just struck. "What are you going to do about the fall though?"

"Hahahahahahahaha," They both began laughing and laughing and laughing. "Ahh that was a good one Arlder."

"I know right… well good luck," he chuckled, suddenly stopping in the air and watching me go down.

"Wait wait wait. We had a deal!"

"The deal was that you would get a job, nothing more than that. Oh and look, it seems like a phantom is appearing below you."

Below him little energy pulses emerged from the floor swinging in the air as if dancing to an invisible beat. It's not like he needed to worry about that since he would definitely die on impact.

Just as Luck was inches away from hitting the floor he suddenly took a step freezing in the air, a little laugh escaping his lips as he stared up at Arlder. All emotions lost, all cheer gone for a moment before it came all at once, that cheery feeling that came with his enigma.

He leaped into the air running toward the phantom that just emerged from the ground. The phantom hopped back startled at his approach but it was not fast enough. He grabbed on to one of its arms and flung it effortlessly into the air, the phantom going high up it's thrashing doing nothing to save it.

"What goes up…" the phantom began to fall towards him as he timed its descent. "Must surely come down!" He said, slamming his foot into the gut of the phantom. The phantom gasped for air. 'Please don't die yet, I haven't had enough.'

"Come on you can do better than that!" Arlder yelled at the phantom from above him as it struggled to stand up, the phantom then charged at Luck but its movement we're wonky as it accelerated.

"You're pretty sloppy my friend."

He was behind the phantom within seconds.

"You aren't what I need." He slammed his fist right into the phantom's shoulder sending the creature into the ground and cracking the pavement as its rocky knee collided with it. "Not even strong enough to offer as entertainment." He slammed his fist again into the second shoulder causing its armor to shatter.

The phantom's head turned around, to face him, mouth wide open as condensed energy formed in its throat.

"Oh so you can use energy beans, maybe you would have been interesting if you had 10 years to develop. Oh well." He grabbed onto its head and mouth just as the beam was about to let loose and crushed the skull of the phantom. The energy beam exploded to the sides of the crushed head, the phantom now a mess of rocks and ash slowly disintegrated.

'What was he thinking?…' Luck wondered turning to see Arlder a huge grin on his face as he stared at him from the night sky, the large full moon behind him.

"Now about that job we discussed, kid."

Now you have been introduced to the mc what do you guys think about him and his dynamic with Arlder?
