Chapter 4 - The Venator Academy II

And that statement was all it took to get Luck to class, but there was one problem, no one else was there!

'That lady had to either be extremely punctual or I'm the only student and both are bad in their own right. '

He settled down in his assigned chair next to the window and prepared for a nice long nap.

'Was I really going to do this school thing?'

The free food and the island were the biggest things that kept him here for now.

'Maybe it won't be so bad.'

The cool refreshing air from the window blew against his face as he reclined further into his chair, currently he was at that point of sleep where he could still hear everything going on around him but couldn't or rather wouldn't wake up except when directly disturbed, basically the sweetest part of sleep.

Then the the door squeak open.

"We finally get to leave the preliminaries today, I was already getting sick of it."

"We only had to do preliminaries for a week, others classes had to do it for a month."

"We shouldn't have to do any preliminari–, who is that and what is he doing in our class?" Came a feminine voice as footsteps got closer to his chair stopping right in front of him.

"Maybe he's a new student?" Another person reasoned.

"This is an elite class, new students don't just pop up out of nowhere," the girl replied. "And if he was a student he wouldn't be sleeping on his first day!"

"I don't think you should do that,' said someone in a shaky voice.

This was probably the best time to wake up but the breeze, the position and the background noise were all too perfect.

Luck felt a sudden jerk and when he opened his eyes he was in the air, falling once again.

At the window was a girl with golden hair and eyes staring down at him with an evil grin on her face as he fell down hard.

Luck just layed there, his back aching from the fall and his face staring up at the clouds.

'This is the 3rd time today.'

Many unpleasant ideas for revenge flashed across his mind but he quickly waved them off.

'Nahh that isn't a good idea.'

He scaled the wall with ease, cracked the window open and sat back down on his seat breathing out a sigh.

"I could have died you know." he complained, turning his attention to the girl.

'Ouuu she's pretty.'

"You came back in?" The cranky girl got up from her seat and was now strolling in his direction. "This is an elite class and it is not open to nobodies like you."

'Nobodies… now where have I heard that before? It's not like it really matters.'

"Why don't you force me out?"

Luck's mood was getting sour by the second, he was fine with Arlder tossing him into the air afterall that was their thing, but this girl? No he wouldn't stand for disrespect.

He could already feel the smoky aura slowly creeping from underneath his skin.

"Force you out, well that will be way too easy!" She was about to charge forward when Arlda walked into the class.

"Good morning class!"

"Good morning Mr Arlder." Everyone said as she found her way back to her seat.

'Woah, Arlder is a teacher?'

"Call me Sensei." He said as he walked to the front of the classroom

"But we aren't in Japan though," A boy in glasses at the front of the class commented.

'I'm guessing he is the smart one, it's a stereotype yeah I know.'

"Detention for you!" Arlda laughed as the boy's face contorted in shock.

"Wait a minute Arlder, when did you become a teacher?"

"That is Mr Arlder to you!" The annoying yelled staring daggers his way. "And what are you still doing in this class?"

"Ummm he's actually a new student." Arlder cut in earning a chorus of murmurs throughout the classroom.

Although the academy trained tons of venators it was very rare for anyone to get into the elite class. Most people currently in the elite class were members of one of the clans while others were just exceptional enough to get noticed.

"How can he be in the elite class when the standards for entry are so high that even notable clans can't enter?" Glasses asked.

"He isn't even from any of the major clans." Another person said.

"Does that mean he's strong?" Someone asked from the back, excitement evident in his tone.

"Quiet down, quiet down. He's good enough to join the class and that is that. Onto more important things, now that you are done with the preliminaries, history and the rest. Basically all the boring stuff, it's time things got a little more interesting."

"Is it time for combat training?!" The same energetic kid at the back yelled in excitement.

"You guessed it right Cosmo. Everyone rally up at the field, it's time to play in the sand."

Everyone hurried out of the room on their way to the field while Cosmo and Arlder leaped out of the window. The class was empty within seconds.

"Two people, one brain," Luck muttered to himself.

"You aren't as sleek as you think you are." He said just as he was turning to face the girl that was sneaking up on him.

That is what he said out loud but in truth he hadn't noticed her presence until she was just 6 feet away from him.

"Oh me? I was just about to leave the class."

She walked past him, her feet basically silent as she moved. When she got to the doorframe she paused.

"Do you know the way to the field?" She turned back to ask, her voice was low and calm.

"How did you do that?"

"Do what?" She cocked her head a little. Nothing about her face gave any hint that she knew what Luck was talking about, nothing but the small smile that appeared on her face some seconds later.

'This girl… like her already!'

"I'm afraid I do not, care to lend me a hand, umm."

"Layla, my name is Layla. Come with me."

"Okay, I'm Luck by the way."

"Luck." She repeated as though she would forget it seconds after he told her. They both went through the door and into the hallway.

•••

After leaving the main building they arrived at the field, a wide expanse with nothing but grass and trees far enough from the academy building.

Everyone else was already here, some were stretching while others jogged to warm up.

"A little too enthusiastic if you ask me."

"They are always like that," the girl who escorted him commented, which startled Luck a little, he had almost already forgotten that she was standing right next to him.

"You should really stop doing that, it's weird."

"Doing what?"

"Using your enigma–."

She said nothing, all she did was turn her attention away from him. Her intention was clear, she would continue using her enigma as much as she pleased.

'Its for training.' she thought to herself, but she didn't want to say it to the stranger she had just met.

Arlder steped into the middle of the students clapping his hands to get their attention.

"Alright everyone, gather around, gather around. It's time for introductions. You, weird kid over there," Arlder said pointing towards Luck. "Introduce yourself."

'Huh, I'm the weird one?'

"I'm Luck."

"Next, keep going in a circle like that."

"Layla, Shadow clan."

"Noah."

"Cosmo."

"Prince, Kuroski."

"Diana, Scarlet clan."

"Ella, Earth clan." Arlder looked towards me when she finished, there was a flash of something in his eyes, a warning? Luck smiled in response.

"Any reason why you mentioned your clan?" Luck asked as soon as their attention shifted from them.

"It's customary for those in major clans to mention their clan name during introductions." She whispered.

"Good kids, good kids," Arlda smiled. "Now come forward and pick a weapon of your choice. It's about time I see what the so called special class can do!"

[A/N]

Like Arlder said it's time for the kids to play in the sand.
