Chapter 41 - Jeremiah B. Waterford

As Jake trudges his way to school, evidently still very sore from the practise at the morning. After failing to describe how he managed to manipulate the earth element, old man Edward decided to just send him back to school, as he put "This is the time of youth. You should spend whatever time you have left of high school having fun, making jokes, you know, maybe 'meeting' some ladies." Jake nearly barfed at the end of the sentence, when he witnessed thick bushes wriggling, like the waves of the ocean, above the old mans eyes. Despite all this, he still felt trepidation, for he realised that something must be afoot, as Mr. Edward never behaved like this so suddenly.

"Hey, young man, stop where toy are going, in the name of the law!" Loud shaking is felt, with pantings soon followed after. As Jake watched in awe, a giant shadow soon eclipsed his being, blocking the sunlight in front of him.

When his vision returned, a large, bright green eye was staring intensely at him. Rugged was his body, mini lumps of flesh protruding from his body, making it seem as if it was a living rock. Its face, though stony, held some semblance of being a man, most evidently by the fact that its facial features were chiseled and hard looking. However, what set it apart was that it had four arms, instead of the regular two, something which the cyclopes of this world did not have.

While Jake was constantly appraising the being, a deep yet curt cough sounded above him. "Introductions first. Uhhmmm, let's see, where are my cue cards." After bringing out 5 large placards from his chest, he stood in attention again, chest raised and feet in military position. "Dear sir (or madame, whatever you may prefer), hi, my name is Jeremiah B. Waterford, senior inspector at the United Federation Hall Of Justice. I am a Monoplow, not to be confused by the cyclopes. I have come here to ask you some questions." After the short introduction, he began fidgeting, whether out of anxiety or fear Jake did not know. Still guarded, while grabbing his bag tighter, Jake asked "Where is your proof, huh? You know, for all I can see, you could be a conman, a terrorist, or a cultist". In response, the being's four arms held out his identity as a law officer: a badge of the United Federation Hall Of Justice, a small mini blaster, and a sandwich of epic proportions (of which he promptly hid back, blushing in shame).

The fourth item however, piqued Jake's interest the most, for he had never seen or heard about it: laid on his fourth arm was a small gauntlet, designed as a glove. Intricate designs laid in it, whether for aesthetic purposes or not. It's material, despite not knowing about it, shimmered with deep blue hue, as light bounced of off it. Circuit etchings can be seen pulsating, carrying untold power across the gauntlet.

Yet the thing that struck Jake the most was that he constantly felt sadness emanating from the gauntlet, making him remember things that he had forgotten, things that he did not want to remember: the beatings at the museum, the harsh days when he was alone, struggling for food, and when he lost his parents that day, eight years ago.

Just before he remembered more depressing memories, Jeremiah, realising what is occurring (due to tears coming from Jake's eyes), quickly managed to somehow deactivate the gauntlet, causing to lose its luster, before sheepishly holding back his hand behind his back. He coughs again, before apologizing to him "Sorry for what happened. Just got the device recently. Hehehe, no hard feelings, right?" Holding two of his hands together, he attempts his best to show apology, though not very well it seemed. Realising that the situation was heading towards an undesirable location, Jeremiah raises a hand towards his mouth, sandwich and all, coughs and informs Jake "Mr. Jake Benson. You are hereby under direct orders to follow me to the nearest police station, and explain to us what happened that day at the museum."
