Chapter 42 - The Nightmare At The Museum

Jake and Jeremiah, or Jerry as he preferred to call himself, pulled up into the police hovercar parked beside the pavement. After giving a call to the school that Jake will not be able to go because of what happened, they drove silently.

Tapping in a haphazard beat on the steering wheel, humming an unknown song, native to his species no doubt. Jake sat at the back, fidgeting his fingers while nervously glancing at his surroundings, wondering what they want to talk about. To ease the atmosphere, and stop his teeth from chattering, he asked Jerry "What about Grud? Did you also 'ask' him what happened that day as well?" Jerry, turning back his head before nearly crashing the hovercar, replied "What, the young goblin? Yes, no, maybe?" Getting questioning looks from his would - be captive, he sighs.

"Hey, look, it's my job as a law enforcer to interrogate all my suspects, whether they be kids or adults, criminals or victims. Also, who says I didn't? I tried my best to find out what happened that day, but the kid doesn't seem to remember what happened. I mean come on. Sure, he was conked out, but couldn't he at least remembered one tiny detail at least." In exasperation, Jerry tries to put emphasis on the word 'tiny', but only managed to squash his sandwich all over the steering wheel, causing him to swear profoundly before regaining control of the hovercar.

Feeling very queasy, Jake attempts ask Jerry something, before finally backing down due to nearly barfing over the seat. "Hey, the cars brand new, don't vomit all over it, my boss is gonna kill me!" Noticing the sound, Jerry starts panicking. "And we're nearly there as well. Please, please, please don't vomit, you can do it as soon as I stop. So please, just keep it in for at least 5- no 1 minute!"

Just as Jake felt that he could not hold it any longer, the vehicle stopped. Unable to keep his food down, he ran out, vomiting near the pavement. "How rude! Hmph." One snobbish ogress turned her head, huffing with disgust. "You okay man, w-why don't you sit down and have some rest? We can start the questioning soon after you feel well." Sweating in anxiety, Jerry can be seen squeezing hands together.

Jake stands back up after 5 minutes, stomach heaving, "Okay, let's get this over with." Hands in pocket to hide his shivering, putting a brave facade, he walks into the station. Walking past the myriad police and government officers, they reach the interrogation room. Inside, for some odd reason, laid a therapeutic bed.

Jerry gets a pillow from somewhere, and lays it on the bed. "Lie down, and just focus on me. Nothing will go wrong, yeah, nothing will go wrong." Fear suddenly grips Jake's heart, who is about to get up, "Wha-" The blue gauntlet reaches out, and covers his face. "Now sleep, and tell me what you know..."

A young man is seen drifting across a blank void, covered with nothing but frames of pictures. Pictures of scenes from his childhood pass by...

"No, not that, although I do feel bad for the boy. Moving on..."

Scenes of him struggling across the wild streets, being constantly barraged by dogs rapping in deep voices, never getting a decent sleep... Scenes of meeting a young goblin, scrimmaging for various parts... Scenes of happiness after meeting a guardian...

Just as Jerry was getting impatient, he finally saw what he wanted to see: the attack at the museum.

That day, when the black mage bombed the entire place, he managed to protect his first, and possibly one his most important friends, from a tier 5 spell...

"Interesting, fancy him surviving a spell of that magnitude. What sheer luck he has. Now, onto my main objective."

..."Where is it, where did you hide the traces of your research about that book." The young archaeologist answers back, blood on side of her lips, "Never."

"Very well then, these young boys will taste my vengeance."

"Aha! Bingo, there's my ticket."

Just as the hand was about to leave the young man's face, the interrogator hesitated for a brief moment, before finalizing his choice. "I wonder how he defeated the Wizard. Can't hurt, can it?"

... Golden aura emanated from his fist, as it covered his fists. Just as he was about to punch ou-

"Arggggghhhh!"
