Character : Lilyanna Valkaria, Strong Desires
-----
When the results came out after the teacher showed them, I was in awe of what I saw.
My eyes peered through the list to find my name, and I read the results with high hopes. Hopes… that I don't fail miserably.
"Lilyanna Valkaria… Capacity, A? Uhm, Aiming, S. Firepower, S. Agility, A. Combat, S. Knowledge, S+. Overall ranking is A? Position… 10th." I read aloud the result that came after my name, and my breath felt like it got taken away from me.
The results were way less than what I expected. It was not bad in any way, but it was disappointing to see that I only got that much. I was still in the top 10 in the overall position, so it was still acceptable. But…
My origin capacity was indeed lackluster. I've always known that. It's still really good considering not many people were able to achieve over a thousand five hundred in their capacity test. But, today has proven that there are nine people my age who were capable of breaking that number. Sadly, I was not among those nine.
My aiming was all right since I managed to hit the furthest wooden dummy, but I could've done better. The furthest dummy had target circles on the chest, and there were some people who were capable of hitting even the center dot. I was not among them.
My firepower was all right too. But, there were five people my age who were capable of completely destroying the titanium walls until they had to be replaced. I was also not one of them.
My movement and agility was quite lackluster. I barely passed the course with a barely acceptable time, but there were people who were capable of doing better and even breezed through the course as if it was nothing. I was not one of those people.
Combat wise, I was lucky to win since my enemy was quite inexperienced. He may have barely passed the one thousand five hundred mark during the capacity test in the beginning, but his combat ability was lackluster. Winning against someone like that wasn't exactly a huge feat, and yet I barely won after a very long battle. There were others like Nathan who finished their fight in just less than a minute. Mine took over five.
Theories and written knowledge are the only things I'm very confident about, but those things aren't enough. Knowing something and actually doing it are two different worlds. Even if I have the theory, I don't have the talent to do it.
In the end, I'm just… not good enough.
"You did great." Next to me, the soft voice of a girl was heard.
I turned my gaze to the short haired girl on the seat next to me, and Nyssa was just staring blankly at my face. She tilted her head a little after I turned my face to her, and she seemed to have seen my expression.
"What's wrong?" She asked, and I realized I must've been too honest with my face.
"N-Nothing, nothing! I was just surprised that my knowledge test got S+!" I lied, but it seems like Nyssa understands.
"I agree. You did really well." She turned her gaze back to the list shown on the large screen, and I studied the list again to find her name.
"Let's see… Winnyssa Vaico. Origin Capacity, S+. Aiming, S+. Firepower, S+... Agility, S+... Huhh!? Combat, S+???? Knowledge, S+????
Overall ranking, S+!?!? Position… Second…?"
I turned my annoyed glare to Nyssa, and she only stared at me blankly. "What's wrong?"
"H-How are you just so perfect?" I asked out of pure annoyance but with a soft voice, and Nyssa only tilted her head as she tried to think of an answer.
"I guess I'm… talented?"
You 'guess'!?
"One thing, though… that position. 'Second', meaning that I'm in second place from the entire list of applicants." Nyssa pointed out, and I was quite confused about that as well.
"Right… that was weird. All your scores are all S+, so how was it that you're second and not first? Then, who got first?" I asked, but it seems like Nyssa already had her suspicions.
"Who else? That lightning guy." Nyssa answered coldly, and I was reminded of the person Nathan was talking to earlier after the combat test.
That guy with the scarf and dirty robe… For some reason, he reminded me of a much nastier Nathan. No, those two are really so much alike.
The teacher then cleared his throat to capture everyone's attention, and he touched the screen one more time. The screen then changed into this really massive list but with smaller text, and I realized what this new list is about.
This must be the class division… based on the scores we got.
"You all have seen the results for your name, I assume? Now, this will be the decided class divisions based on the results. There are ten classes this year, with each class having fourteen to fifteen people. Keep in mind, the class division is made based on the position and ranking that you get during the tests."
The teacher continued the explanation, and he noticed that we had problems reading the list since the text was too small. "Go ahead and approach the screen to see it up close. Once you're done checking it, please go to the lobby for the dormitory assignment."
After announcing them, the teacher then left the room. After the teacher left, everyone got up from their seats and approached the screen to see which class they got into. Nyssa and I included, and even though we already know that we'd end up in the same class, we're curious as to who our classmates are going to be.
Let's see… Nathan is in class A as well! That's great.
"Looks like your boyfriend is in our class--"
"He's not my boyfriend!" I quickly stopped Nyssa from having that thought, and she seemed to be quite startled from my shouting. "Sorry for shouting…"
"… Both princes and the princess are in the same class. I'll be the only one from a low rank family, then." Nyssa mumbled, and I laughed a little hearing her words.
"I don't think family ranks mattered here, Nyssa. You'll do just fine." I cheered her up, and Nyssa nodded softly at me.
"And… It looks like that guy is in our class as well." Nyssa pointed at a name at the very top of the class A list, and I understood after reading the name.
"Yeah. We'll be spending quite a lot of time with him." I said as I stared at the name, and Nyssa pointed at another name on the list.
"The Holy knight's son. He was quite special." Nyssa said while pointing at a name, and I remembered Jonah from the banquets.
He was nothing like anyone thought of him, and I'm worried about how he thinks of himself. I'm here beating myself for barely getting into the top ten, but who knows how he feels for being the disappointing son. Even though he got such a high score during the capacity test, he fumbled all the other tests that I'm surprised he was even in class A. He barely got in, though, at the fifteenth spot.
At the very least… There's Nathan with me in the class. I'm so glad.
"Should we head to see the dormitory assigned?" Nyssa suggested after reading the list for so long, and my eyes do feel hurting from reading a screen this closely.
"Yeah, let's go. I wonder who will be assigned as my dorm mates." I followed Nyssa to the exit, and she turned her blank stare at me as she walked.
"How many people do you think will be in a room?"
"Not sure… can't be more than four, right?" I guessed with just my pure intuition, and apparently I was right.
After we got to the lobby, there were multiple seniors who were helping us with our dormitory assignments. There are two dormitory buildings for males and females. For the rooms, there will be two people occupying a single room, which was surprising considering most dorms usually let four students clumped into one room. I guess this academy is just different?
As for who my roommate is…
"Princess Lilyanna Valkaria… your roommate is Winnyssa Vaico." The senior told me after I asked her, and I quickly turned my gaze to Nyssa.
Next to me, Nyssa pointed a finger at herself and stared blankly at the senior. "That's me."
"O-Oh… Were you two close friends?" The senior asked politely, and Nyssa and I only traded smiles at each other.
After that, we both left the classroom building and headed to the dormitory building for girls. The senior helped us by pointing out which directions we should go from the classroom building, and apparently it was not that far.
"I can't believe we get to be in the same room together, Nyssa! I thought we'd be separated." I said to Nyssa as we walked to the dorm, and she simply smiled softly at me.
"I'm glad it's someone I'm familiar with. I don't like meeting new people." Nyssa said with the usual plain tone, and I laughed a little from remembering something.
"True… you were quite stiff when we first met. At least you'll be comfortable with me, right?"
"Right. I like being with Lily." Nyssa said with her usual plain voice, but I knew that she really meant it.
She isn't the type to play with her voice and act cute like me, but I can tell she will always be honest with her words. Sometimes she is a little sarcastic, but that's only when she's joking. As for her words just now, I can tell she truly meant it.
I hugged Nyssa a little tightly, and she grunted from me acting too close. "Stop… it's embarrassing."
"I like being with you too! Let's be together for the next three years!" I said cheerfully, and Nyssa didn't have the capacity in her to let go of my arms.
After the short walk, we arrived at the dormitory building for females. There were quite a few female seniors in the lobby of the dormitory building, and all of them were wearing hats and ropes on their heads. I noticed the other girls are chatting quite happily with them, so this must be a sort of welcoming ceremony or something.
Nyssa and I were approached by two seniors after we got close, and the two seniors then began telling us about how the dormitory functions and where the things are inside the academy. For the dormitory, there is a kitchen on the second floor so that anyone can cook if they want to. But, they can also go to the canteen to buy some meals for themselves right behind the classroom building.
There is a laundry service at the bottom floor, but we will have to make sure that our clothes are all tied inside one large bag. As for where we can get the bag, we can ask for one from the front desk at the lobby. Unlike the inn where I used to work at, there is a bathroom at every dorm room, so we won't have to line up or wait for other students to use the bathroom. The only person who can rival us in using the bathroom is our roommate.
After telling us all of this information, the seniors then allowed us to go upstairs. We got our keys to the room from the lady at the front desk, and we headed up to see our room.
"Wanna do the honors?" I asked Nyssa while lifting the keys, but she only shook her head.
"That'd only make me look like a servant to the princess."
"Oh, stop it with that already!" I easily got angry by that, and Nyssa giggled a little.
I slowly inserted the key into the door, and I opened the lock. After twisting the door handle, I pushed the door open and allowed us to look inside. The lights were off, so I reached out to the wall next to the door for the light switch. Once the lights were on, Nyssa and I were able to study the room inside.
