Chapter 4 - OFU

LAYLA'S POV

Wednesday 11th June.

"Okay okay, Good morning everyone" he said as he rang a bell around the room to wake everyone up.

Same old belle same old call same old man I guess, doesn't he ever gets tired? I have not been here for long but even I myself am tired of his noise and everything, besides it's not like anyone is actually sleeping we've been up for a while now.

"Get up! get up!! get up!!!" Zainab kept tugging Aish, does it ever end? Feels like I've seen this before.

I feel gloomy, maybe something is wrong with me I'm just not in a good mood and everything that seems to excite me before just doesn't anymore.

"Come on! Come on!! Aisha you know today we get to go to the mall" she said in a high pitched girly voice as she hopped up and down.

"Whatever" I said as I rolled my eyes and walked out of the room to go freshen up.

"What's up with her?" Aisha whispered to Zainab as I walked passes them.

Nothing really, I am fine just not in a good mood.

"Hey you! Seems like Someone is in a bad mood today" jasmine said with a smile on her face, seems everyone is actually happy and I am just the one that's all gloomy and down.

"Huh, xhat?" I said with a mouthful of toothpaste as I was currently brushing my teeth.

"Let me allow you finish" she said as she walked away, that's strange, even jasmine that usually isn't in a good mood is all bubbly like everyone else.

What's going on? Or what's happening today? Isn't it just a normal day? I finished up and quickly took my bathe before going back I to the bedroom and everyone was up and arranging or doing something they usually don't.

"Cling cling" the sound of the belle came as I could also see Mr. Joseph's shadow "you know what time it is ladies" he said as his shadow began to disappear again, that's weird unlike Mr. Joseph at all.

I got dressed like everyone else and went to catch up at the dinning hall, there was no line so I got our famous Nigerian breakfast akara and akamu(beans cake and millet smoothie) as I proceeded to move to my seat to get sited.

"Everyone be fast, we would be leaving by 10am" Mr. Joseph announced as I say down on the bench, same one I have been sitting on for a week now and jasmine was the only one there as usual.

"So you finally made it, I thought you weren't going to come for breakfast" she said as I began to eat.

"No, I don't miss breakfast for anything" I said as I continued to eat my meal.

"We are going cloth and shoe shopping today everyone is allowed to get 5 things, we only go twice a year so make it count, get durable things and also get good quality things, ids our rooms turn finally after six months of waiting" jasmine advised.

"June? So we are the last to go?" I asked because twice a year means our room is the last one the cycle, and according to the cycle there are 6 rooms then.

"Yeah, it is we are the last one the hall way, didn't you notice?" She said as she raised her eyebrow in confusion, seems I am not as observant as I want to be that's really bad and something I should be working on, I need to notice every little data that enough would help me heal.

"Oh, I have just never sat down to think about it, I am sure it's no big deal" I said desperately it seems like something is wrong with me after all, how come I never noticed that?

"Either ways, for people like us who don't go to school we cherish days like these because we get to go out into the real world and mingle" she said happily "finish up, it's almost 10" she tapped my shoulder and she took her emptied dish away.

"Hmm one of the only days?" Has she been here for more than six months and still hasn't begin schooling? Is that even right? Well maybe I'll ask her later, I quicky eat my food to be done like everyone else.

I stood up with my now emptied dish as I went to return it also "come on" jasmine grabbed my hands and she horridly took me to the bus that was taking us.

"Get in" she said as she pulled me up into the bus, everyone in the room was already sited and I saw Aisha and Zainab at the back.

"So... What's that look on your face?" She asked as I say down next to her.

"Nothing, I was just wondering why you are not in school even though you've been here for a while" I couldn't help but wonder at this point it was strange.

"Well I am done with school that's why, I fished last year me and some of the girls you saw the other day"

"So what are you still doing here? Does the orphanage let people go or you stay for all your life to show gratitude" if that's how it is I don't want any part in it.

"The orphanage is waiting for a scholarship for us that's why we are still around, and no they let girls at the age of 20 go, they would either enrol them in a university or something that they can live on like give them a trade or something"

"Wow that's nice"

"Yes, when you finish secondary school they would ask you what you want to do, come to think of it why haven't you finished school?" She turned her face sideways to look at me.

"School? I don't know, I can't remember if I have" isn't it sad, I don't even remember simple things like this, I am a shadow of a human a clone a zombie if you may call me, I am just whoever the police told me I am and if they were wrong then who knows.

"How old are you?" She asked

"19, or at least that's what they told me" I had a brief session and according to the ID card they found of me, it showed my name, age and some other relevant information, it is what they are trying to use to locate my family.

"Oh I see, well I doubt you are still in secondary school, you are too old for it most people there graduate 16, 17, or 18 years of age you hardly see a 19 year old there, so rest assured if they find your documents you would be going to the same university like me, I am trilled" she smiled "oh look we are here" she said as she looked forward for a bit.

"Thank you" it's nice to know that even if I don't have a past and no one knows who I am, someone is ready to accommodate me into their lives. Well even if I can not remember the past I can tell I do have a future.

"And about your parents, you would find them trust me" she said as she held my hands, we were both standing at this point waiting for our turn to leave the bus but I could tell she was lying not lying but she wasn't being honest to me, what does she know? Would I ever be able to reconnect with who I was before any of this?

"Yeah that's nice to know, I am glad I have you by my side" I really am glad she decided to warm up to me, she is the only one that seems to have interest in me here, the rest of the girls pretends as if I am invisible.

"Let's go" she began walking and guiding me as I walked behind her, Mr. Joseph made an announcement but we missed it and everyone scattered as they began to go to different section of the store, we were not inside it yet.

"Wow" I gasped at the beautiful scenery, who is funding the orphanage? How can they afford this for the girls? Now I see why everyone was excited to come here, it is really something to look forward to.

"Good morning everyone, welcome to TNC news my name is Muhammad yunus and I am here to bring you the news at 11 O'clock from every part of Nigeria" I looked up to see a TV that was switched to the channel TNC.

"Yet again, two girls have been rescued by the Nigerian police force at the same location from the last, the shed is now off limit as the government is taking it back due to several incidents happening there, the two girls who are unconscious and currently on live support as of earlier this morning are still to be identified, and no suspects were found but there is an ongoing..."
