Kassandra's POV
I act the way I should, based on Prince Noah's actions, but the truth is, the only expression that I truly saw from him was the laughter he had at our wedding celebration.
He might have shown a little care for me, but it's shallow. I knew from the start that he was faking everything. He was cold, ruthless, and cunning.
I knew how to read people and just acted like I couldn't read him at all. "Why are you asking such an absurd question?" he asks coldly.
I shrug my shoulders and meet his gaze. It was saddening to see those lonely and lifeless eyes.
"Absurd? Your majesty, hiding the truth will only bring trouble to your plate. I may suggest your honesty between us. I know that the royal family wants full control of the Escalante army, right?"
His reaction changed. His majesty's anger was written in his eyes. He must have realized that I'm not that stupid.
"Princess Celeste was offered to me first. As soon as they learn that I'm a woman, the princes will be the next to offer to be my spouse. I just picked you because of those unique expressions in your eyes," I added honestly.
"I don't need to explain it to you. Anything that concerns my heart and emotions, you have nothing to do with them."
That made me laugh. "Well, I must remind you that divorce isn't a choice for this marriage. No matter how much you love her and how unhappy you are with me, you'll stay as my husband. I have no intention to give up on you." I walked closer to him and pinged my hands on the wall.
I cornered him so that he could see my reaction very well. "Prince Kalix, you didn't know me yet. Once I decide to own something or someone, that person will stick with me until their very last breath," I continued.
I move my face to his side and whisper these words. "Unless you'll send someone to kill me, you'll surely have your freedom."
I stood straight and smirked devilishly. I know what I am doing. Instead of acting like a great couple, I will pave my way to make that happen.
If I have to change him completely, then I'll do that. Just in case I die earlier, I want to have a child who will inherit my family's legacy.
"What are you trying to say, huh?" he growls.
He's controlling his tone, yet his anger is evident. He was damn mad. "I need an heir as soon as possible. Don't kill me until then. As for the Escalante army, its loyalty will remain to this kingdom and the innocent people who need our help. I'll excuse myself, your majesty. I still have things to do," I utter.
I walked away. I saw Arida in the living room waiting for me. "Let's go to the training ground. I need to breathe," I uttered.
My vice general didn't ask for anything. She just follows me. I saw the three horses that Axel was taking with him.
"I have to be present, or else Sir Dantes will give me the hardest training for the week," Axel says.
I laugh. I jump into the back of my horse and hold its leash. Later in the afternoon, I want to patrol this place and get familiar with its landscape.
"Let's go?" I said, looking at them.
"Hyahh!" we all say.
The horses start to run. If this is the real port capital of Moon Aires, we only need half an hour of horses to ride in order to reach the training ground. In my family's mansion, I need at least more than an hour to reach it.
As soon as we arrived, the soldiers showed their respect. I jump off my horse. One of them takes it to the nearby grassland. Lieutenant Dantes approaches us.
"Good morning, your majesty," he greeted. I glared. He laughs.
"I'm just joking, general. I'm glad that you're finally awake. We are worried because that's the first time that you've slept because of a wound," Joseph commented. I sighed. I started roaming around, and they followed me.
"That surprises me either. I guess my body used that chance to rest. I've been abusing my body when we're still in the borderlands. Anyway, did the soldiers who stayed there send any updates?" I ask.
He nodded. "Yes, general. They've been guarding the five villages like you ordered. As for the gate, they made sure that our enemy wouldn't get through it unnoticed. We really closed that door for merchants, missionaries, and even refugees."
I nodded. The only place they could get in was the port capital of this country. I heard that the Navy was strict in making inspections.
Thirty thousand of my soldiers were still in the borderlands. After three months, those who came with me will go back to that place so that the other half will get the chance to go home.
It will be an alternate. As for the emergency battle, I already planned for that. "Now that I am living in the capital, I'll secretly guard the things that are happening there. I know the crown prince of Altas won't stop their expansion expedition of expansion," I remarked.
Arida and Joseph sighed. The way they sounded was proof of their father-daughter relationship. I chuckled.
They raise their heads and look at me. "Is there a problem, general?" Arida asks, and I shake my head.
I guess I really missed my family. It's been five years, yet the wound inside my heart is still fresh.
"General, can I suggest something?" Joseph says. I nod.
"What is it?" I replied.
"Should we communicate with their leader and discuss the possible problems that we might encounter? Look what happened to the woman who tried to kill the queen," he paused. I know what he's trying to say. I've been thinking about that matter too.
"I will take care of that. For now, let's focus on everyone's training and strengthening their skills. We can't let our guard down. I know, they didn't give up yet."
They didn't say more things. I watch my soldiers as they continue their training and spar with one another.
I know I have a ball to prepare, but if I don't keep my eyes on my soldiers, there's no more ball to make if we become a colony of the Altas kingdom. I don't want that to happen.
After staying for a day, I went home. I told Arida to stay on the training ground and help her father in the meantime. I was taken aback when I noticed something.
