Chapter 21 - Sorry but I'm into you

Kassandra's POV

Everything flashes in my head. The moment I steal a kiss from Prince Noah and ask the king for his hand, I also meet a misfortune but technically, it means nothing.

On our way home, I went to the market first and pickpocket guys stole my money. I grab an apple and throw it on his head. He falls over and a cart runs over him accidentally.

As for the kiss on our wedding day, that attack must be the equivalent of that. I walk closer to him but he steps back.

"You have no choice but to fall for me, your majesty. I will stick by you until my very last breath. Your unluckiness will add a better color to my world," I stated, smiling sweetly.

He grabs my shoulder and stops me from walking closer to him. "Are you out of your mind?! Why would I fall for someone like you?!" Prince Kalix roared. I pout and sulk.

"Geez. Sorry, but I'm into you. You have no choice but to fall for me. That woman didn't deserve your love!" I yell.

I covered my lips and stepped back with great speed. I almost fell into the water again. What an idiot I am! My gosh!

His expression became dark, showing how mad he was. My husband won't believe me if I tell him that his big brother and the woman she likes are tricking him. I raise my palm.

"I apologize, your majesty. Just forget what I just said!"

I bend down and pick up my wet clothes. I should have told him that we should head back to the village.

"Kassandra!" he growled, using his deep and baritone voice.

I stopped moving. I really dug a grave for myself. I slowly faced him. I should have kept my mouth shut!

"Did you just badmouth Lady Leticia?" he asks, using the same voice.

I shook my head. I've faced several scary enemies but this is the first time that I trembled like this.

"I am. It's just... I'm sorry," I whispered.

This is not the right time yet. I don't have any proof yet. I'm still a stranger to my husband anyway. I bow my head and wait for my punishment.

"You wouldn't say such words and have that hatred in your eyes if it's nothing. You better speak yourself or I'll behead you right here and now," he warns. I raised my head and saw how serious he was. I gulp.

"I don't have any reason except the fact that she's in your heart. I'm still your wife, your majesty. I have the right to be selfish," I replied. My jaw clenched. I have to lie for now.

"Oh? Really?" he replied. His eyes were glowing with madness. He lifts my chin and looks at me intensely. I'm dead! I can sense a lion's wrath in Prince Kalix's eyes.

He kissed me again, full of bitterness. I groan when he bites my lower lip. He turned his back on me and walked away. I wiped my lips and saw the blood on my finger.

Sadness flashes in my eyes. "I wonder if you will even get mad when it's for my sake…" I whispered softly. I followed him and tripped after I accidentally stepped on a rock.

I fell to the ground. My eyes dilated when I saw how pointed the rock was next to me. There's also poison ivy!

I stood up and ran towards him. I jump off the horse's back first and grab his clothes. Damn! That was really close!

As soon as Prince Kalix positioned himself behind me, I pulled the leash. "Hyah!"

The horse starts moving. I move the leash in order to command the horse to make it faster. We reach the village before noon.

Enrique was surprised because of what I was wearing. My husband told him to buy clothes for me while I was staying in the carriage.

As soon as Enrique gave me my clothes, I changed right away. "Let's go?" I ask him.

I closed the carriage door and walked first. I know he will stay behind me for around five paces. It's a stupid protocol from the book.

The villagers prepared a huge feast wherein everyone ate together with us. "Your wife is really beautiful, your majesty. We can't wait for the next duke for this region."

I coughed and almost spat out the water that I was drinking. The village mayor didn't hold back when he made his comment. I guess it comes from his experience.

"I'll take that as a compliment," I whispered, laughing and trying to hide my true feelings.

I look at my husband. He is emotionless as always. What do I even expect? I keep myself busy by talking with the villagers.

We stayed for an hour and a half. "Thank you for the meal, everyone! I really enjoyed and appreciated your warm welcome to us. See you again soon! Bye-bye!" I screamed, waving inside the carriage.

A long silence was evident between us. I wonder if he is mad because I can see through him or is it because of my statement against Lady Leticia?

It took us an hour to reach the third village. "We will stay here for just an hour, then head to our next destination. We will stay in Westeria for the night," my husband says.

He opened the door and didn't offer his hand to me. I gasp when a strong wind brushes against my skin. My hair flew up because of the strong wind.

I looked around and saw the name of this village. "It does make sense," I murmur. Its name is Moonwind Village.

It's really a windy place. The villagers were all waiting for us. As usual, Prince Noah told them that I was his wife. They're all surprised because the general of Escalante is a woman.

"Your Majesty, here's our gift for the two of you. I hope this is enough as our welcome gift for Grand Duchess Kassandra," the village mayor says. He gave me the box. I opened it and saw a silver bowl and a wine cup.

"Is silverware common in this village? I just noticed that some things here are made of pure silver," I ask. They nod.

"We are miners, duchess. We also supply the Treasury, which is responsible for making silver currency," he replied.

"Hmm… then you can help me with this matter. I need silverware that we can use for the winter ball. I am giving the village five days. Don't worry. It's not that much."

I told the villagers what kind of silverware I needed for the party. He asks the people who can make my request. They give me a positive response.

After an hour, we left the village. We're on our way to the next village. "I love the design. It was simple yet elegant," I whispered.

I put the bowl and wine cup in the box. I lean my back on my seat. I looked at the window and saw the glow from the ocean.

"What kind of village are we going to next, your majesty?"
