Ch- 5
Unbeknown to the main character, a lethal threat loomed over
him, setting off a chain reaction when he unwittingly took the life of a
seemingly inconsequential goblin, thus triggering an unexpected twist of fate.
Meanwhile, the protagonist cautiously hunted, ever watchful
for creatures that might pose a threat.
After catching enough fish to fill his stomach, he stopped
and headed back to his cave to store the basket full of his catch.
After carefully placing the fish in his new home, he lifted
a rock to cover the entrance, ensuring it wouldn't be discovered by other
creatures and would remain hidden from prying eyes.
After doing so, he went to find some dry sticks to lit up
fire to cook the fishes as well as to find a more suitable weapon with more
lethal force than a wooden spear that cannot be trusted when facing opponents
with a hard skin which cannot be penetrated easily.
For that he thought of going to the goblin settlement but he
scrapped that idea as soon as it appeared because they might be hostile towards
him and might even be looking for him after he killed one of them.
So he though of creating a weapon, with the materials
available in the forest. It would not be difficult for him because he already
had the idea of what weapon he was going to make, and the items he needed to
make one.
He cautiously explored the area surrounding his new home,
not venturing too far without a means to protect himself. Unfamiliar with his
surroundings and wary of encountering unknown creatures, he was unwilling to
put himself in danger. He was wary of the possibility of encountering plants
that could pose a threat when least expected. So, he chose not to take any
risks.
It took him quite some time to find what he needed but he
also found something that he didn't expect but nevertheless it was a fortunes
encounter for him. As he was extremely happy after discovering it.
But he was cautious as well, as he didn't have any tools to
properly use it with and he had to use it in a very crude way. But it would
work as a trump card in the time of need.
After being satisfied with his find, he went back to his
cave, thankful nothing unexpected occurred and like yesterday he followed the
same steps to ignite a fire and cooked the same fishes.
But after eating, he didn't extinguish the fire, he instead
used the fire as a light to make the weapon or weapons that he so desired.
It took him quite some time to make the weapons, it looked
unprofessional and didn't seem appealing to the eyes but as he was creating
weapons from scratch for the first time, he was nevertheless happy.
The weapons that he created were, one a bow and another a
knife.
He created a bow for long and mid ranged opponents and to
also use it to take fights or eliminate a enemy from a long distance without
their knowledge.
And a knife, for short range fights, he was excellent in all
the hand held weapons, but he preferred long range weapons as it was more
practical when fighting creatures that were not human and would possess
abilities that a normal human lacks.
So it's better to take care of creatures that I lack
knowledge about from a safe distance rather than taking fight in close range,
where anything can happen.
He could already imagine a creature, that could try to kill
himself with the enemy or commit suicide and take the enemy down with him.
So it's better to be safe than sorry. After all, precaution
is better than cure.
After creating a knife and a bow, now he had to make the
arrows for the bow, and that was a really tough job, as bows need to be made
with items that would allow it to travel long distances without changing its
trajectory and that would be difficult.
But he didn't give up just because of that and started
making a bow, for creating a bow, he used a thin stick and attached a sharp
pebble that had taken the shape due to the constant flow of water - near the
river, and with the help of the tree bark and the roots, attached it to tadda
make a incomplete arrow.
Undeterred by the setback, he persevered and crafted a arrow
using a slender stick and a sharp pebble worn smooth by the river's constant
flow. Using tree bark and roots, he fashioned an incomplete arrow.
He called it incomplete because it truly was. The arrow
lacked fletching, which would have enabled it to fly longer distances by
countering air currents and hitting the target more accurately.
Without fletching, the arrow would be at the mercy of the
wind and would not have the stability needed to maintain a straight path. It
was clear to him that without this crucial component, the arrow was useless if
his intention was to hit a target at any significant distance. He knew that he
would have to remedy this before he could consider it complete and ready for
use.
What was used in the olden days, to make an arrow, the
protagonist thought and it came to his mind that bird feathers were used to
create fletching for the arrow. That the bird feathers were carefully selected
and attached to the arrow shaft to stabilize its flight. This ancient technique
allowed for greater accuracy and distance when shooting arrows.
So he made up his mind to find bird feathers tomorrow to
complete his arrow until then the bow he made could not be used.
He could have done it tonight while the birds were sleeping,
catching them off guard. However, he chose to wait, carefully planning and
ensuring he was well-rested in order to hunt them without harming their
delicate feathers, which was his main concern.
He drifted off to sleep pondering about the method he was
going to use to hunt down the birds to gain their feathers without damaging
them, so it could be used to perfect his arrows...
