I couldn't shake off the feeling that Damian was hiding something. His words seemed sincere, but I had been hurt by him before. I decided to keep a close eye on him, to see if he would truly follow through on his promises.
James, on the other hand, seemed to trust Damian. He nodded along as Damian spoke, his expression thoughtful.
"I think we can trust him, Emily," James said, turning to me. "At least, let's give him a chance to prove himself."
I nodded slowly, still unsure. But I knew I had to make a decision. I couldn't keep Liam away from his father forever.
"Okay, let's do it," I said finally. "But if you betray us, Damian...there will be consequences."
Damian nodded, his face serious. "I understand," he said. "I promise to prove myself to you, Emily. And to Liam."
I watched him, trying to read his expression. Was he telling the truth? Or was this just another one of his lies?
