Chapter 3 - [Chapter 3 - Ki]

A weathered ash grey arch ran from the side of the path, curving upwards to atleast 8 feet, announcing the entrance to the training halls. Past the arch was a simple building of 4 walls, and one entrance that lined up to the wooden doors. The walls of the building were a cleaner cut stone, as if the preservation of this building in particular was important.

"So, Guac.. what do these training halls entail? And why here first, of all places?"

Guac glanced over at the young man with medium jet black hair, slicked back except for a few strands running over his forehead and some reaching the top of his eyebrows. With a hint of surprise, he coughed out;

"Huh? What do you mean? We gotta get evaluated? It's the start of the year. Unless you have already gotten evaluated. Ah, I probably should have asked beforehand, sorry, haha."

Guac sheepishly smiled, while Tre remained straight faced.

'Evaluated? Oh, like your ki capabilities. Some people's ki techniques are especially destructive, and since everyone have a unique one, it makes sense to monitor them every year. I assume Lloyd told the school professors beforehand not to worry about me I guess, or that I was useless in that field. Otherwise, that guy I met when I first came here would have taken me here. I ended up here anyway, though.'

Sigh

"Ah, I don't have a ki technique to evaluate, so it's fine."

Guac looked at the boy, his mouth slightly opened, with shock clearly written on his face.

"Huh..? Wait, don't have a ki technique? That's impossible. Like, actually impossible. Are you positive?"

Tre let out a small sigh before explaining.

"It's not that I don't have one per se, but I'm so horrendously bad at ki control, that I can't utilise a technique."

"What? Did you not learn how to do it when you were younger? How did you not learn it under your private tutor or-"

Tre put out his hand calmy, shutting the boy down.

"I didn't have any of that. Enough of this, I thought you said you wouldn't pry?"

"Oh, right. Sorry.. anyway, follow me to the training hall Tre. It's still good to atleast see the evaluation, even if you have bad ki control. The more people you see utilise ki, the more understanding you will have of it!"

The green haired boy happily walked along the stone path after saying this, not looking back to see if Tre was behind him, as if it was a given.

Sigh

'I've seen so many people utilise ki, it'd blow your little mind. I get the understanding of it, how it flows. Originating in the heart, getting produced as a byproduct of the pumping of the blood around the body, our veins are used to transport something else. Energy within the world condensing, enough to be breathed. The plasma in our blood gets 'supercharged', you could say. Flowing through our veins, it gets changed by a unique genetic code; the DNA in our bodies, and through that the ki attribute is born, which is what creates your unique ki technique. Expressing that energy is different from just having it. Everyone has a ki attribute, and ki itself, but utilising it is a differerent task altogether. Ki techniques are hereditary, but also can mutate into something.. different.'

Tre shuddered at the thought of mutated ki techniques. Of all the scientists that had devoted their lives to this information, privy only to a select few after the destruction of the small town of Olyv. During the war, that town had made significant breakthroughs in the scientific field. Only for it all to be lost.

Tre brushed these thoughts away, hurriedly catching up the Guac.

'I will carry on the torch of all those scientists.. no. Of all the people of Olyv. I will let their achievements be known. Their existence. Their history, and what happened to them.

And their unwavering willpower to create change in such a forsakened world.'
