Chapter 10 - chapter 10

Inside the Sentinel Lab, Izuku copiously scribbles notes into his notebook, his tongue sticking out as he writes. Something Samuel couldn't help but find pretty funny, however he remains composed and does no more than smile at the sight of it.

"So... how does your quirk operate? Is it individual types of energy you manipulate like Kinetic or Radiant, or..?" Izuku inquires, however Samuel shakes his head.

"It's not really like that." he states, thinking for a moment as he taps his finger against his cheek, something he did when he thought. "The term energy, it's a like a broad term for a specific type of fuel. The working theory is that it's a type of energy related to the cosmic background radiation from the big bang. Which happens to be found in a fair few Emitter type abilities." he declares.

"And you can manipulate that... How exactly?" Izuku asks as he scribbles down what Samuel was saying.

Samuel thinks again, pushing his own face, before he smiles, he had the perfect example but he just hoped Izuku was cool enough to understand it.

"Have you ever seen Dragon Ball? It's kinda like that." grins the energy user, also causing Izuku to grin.

"Oh! So you take energy into yourself and then can shoot off projectiles and make yourself stronger! Do you have an aura?" the boy in green asks with a glow in his eyes.

"I'm still working on it really... but yeah that's pretty much the gist of it." Samuel replies.

"Energy Manipulation - Emitter type quirk. Got it! That's such an incredible power, you're so lucky!" Izuku smiles, however it prompting a sigh from Samuel.

"You're the first person to tell me that in such a long time. It feels more like a burden to me than anything." he solemnly replies. Prompting Izuku to lean forward.

"Why..? You don't have to say if it's too personal." Izuku proposes.

Samuel ruffles his own hair a bit, the scars of his past, both physical and mental were fresh in his mind with this topic of conversation, however it could be good to talk about it with someone.

"Long story short? I was always ostracised for my ability. Those... assholes made me hate myself, hate my gift. I'm being taught how to come to terms with myself... but it's a lot ya know?" Samuel declares. Izuku shuts his notebook immediately with a thud.

"I'm sure you're gonna do great, people made me hate myself too... But like you said, I'm coming to terms with myself, so let's keep doing our best, yeah?" proudly states the boy in green.

"Yeah... you're right." agrees Samuel as Izuku reopens his notebook and starts to write down again, although there was a question on Samuel's mind. "D-do you have an ability?" he asks softly but when he sees Izuku stop writing he immediately regrets asking the question. "O-oh, I'm sorry if it's a bad subject, you don't have to answer."

Izuku looks up to the fellow protege, a question that used to make him cringe everytime it came up, but now, it didn't hurt as much, he smiles warmly at him.

"I'm quirkless, but... I'm still doing my best." speaks Izuku.

"Seriously?! I just assumed you had an IQ ability or something given how smart you are." Samuel replies, causing Izuku to chuckle.

"Nope! Just a bit of a nerd when it comes to this sort of thing!"

Samuel and Izuku both smile at one another. It was just nice for the pair of them, just talking to someone their own age for once. They hadn't disclosed their immediate pasts or what lead each of them this part in their lives, just speaking about what others their age would normally speak about. Literally anything else but what they should talk about.

"That's incredible. Truly." Samuel comments. Izuku couldn't help but feel warm inside hearing that, he'd been praised for his general ability, not mocked for his quirk status or weird habits. He can't help but feel his eyes water up.

"That means more than you know... Thank you Samuel." Izuku splutters. Samuel sees Izuku's eye start to water, when he dives into his suit pocket and pulls out his green handkerchief, handing it to Izuku.

"Crap! Sorry, I didn't mean to make you upset, here, use this." he instructs. Izuku gently taking it and wiping his eyes.

"You really come prepared huh?"

"Preparation is everything... Or so I'm told." Samuel replies.

"I'll have to remember that." Izuku adds.

The pair grin at one another, it was nice for them for them both to just be themselves. There's a whoosh behind them as the screen door opens up and the sound of footsteps follow after it.

"My my, it really is like being on the moon." comments Yotsubashi, Samuel turns around in delight seeing his mentor.

"Hey Mr Yotsubashi, how did the meeting go?" he asks politely. Yotsubashi smiles at him.

"Excellent my young friend. Now the time has come to head off, we have another meeting to attend today." replies the commander, Samuel nods as he gets to his feet, not before turning to his new buddy.

"Izuku, it was so nice to meet you, I hope we'll see each other again soon!" Samuel says.

"Me too, hope your meeting goes well! Bye Mr Yotsubashi!" Izuku adds. Yotsubashi nods in respect to the polite boy in green.

"Best of luck in your endeavours Mr Midoriya." are the last words he hears from the two suited men as they exit the lab, with a whoosh from the screen door certifying their exit. Izuku smiles as they head out of view, as he then goes back to his notebook, scribbling a few final notes on his notebook page dedicated to Energy Manipulation.

"He'd probably give Ka-Chan a run for his money if he could use it technically enough and became more comfortable." Izuku murmurs to himself as he takes a bite of the donut, his computer whirring into life in front of him. A big chunk of the donut falls onto the desk with a thud as he takes a big bite, he curses under his breath, but he couldn't help but notice that the donut landed on the green handkerchief, which had also found a place on Izuku's desk.

----------------------------------

Inko drops her suitcase onto the floor and breathes a sigh of relief. Both at the fact hse was finally home after a few days away, but more so at the fact it didn't end up being the whole week like she initially thought. Also the fact Izuku hadn't burnt the place to the ground or littered it entirely with quirk related papers was an added bonus. As she walks into her home, she couldn't help but peer into Izuku's room as her thoughts start to materialise.

'It's a shame he's taken down about three quarters of his All Might stuff. I get that it wasn't the best meeting he could've had with him... but still. That's a big part of his life." she thinks. Flopping down onto the sofa and attracting the remote over to herself with her ever trusty quirk as she flicks on the TV.

"In business news today; Detnerat has pledged nearly half a billion yen into the QRD Division, such an act of generosity has been hailed by the science and heroic communities. Furthermore, this has caused Detnerat's share price to sky rocket in the few hours since the announcement surfaced." speaks the TV, Inko smiles to herself as she attracts over the chocolate bowl to herself.

"Huh, maybe Izuku will get a raise." she says to herself as she unwraps a chocolate and goes to eat it, when she smells smoke. A burning smell of sort. She floats the chocolate back over onto the table and puts the remote down on the arm of the sofa as she gets up.

'Please tell me Izuku didn't leave the oven on and forgot about it.' she thinks as she heads over towards the kitcehn area, carefully inspecting the buttons and dials on the oven and the gas cooker. But all is normal and all is currently switched off. 'Hmm, maybe someone in the apartments around us is cooking a meal or something.' crosses her mind as she opens up the oven and sees gunk on one of the trays in the oven, she grimaces as she runs her finger over it. Not overly impressed by Izuku's cooking skills.

"I really need to teach that boy how to cook." she walks over to the sink, the tap still and dormant. "When he gets back tonight, I'll teach him." she says.

Inko turns the tap on and the liquid fills the basin of the sink, she only turns away for a moment, she wasn't even sure what made her turn away, but in that brief split second, the smell of the smoke engulfs her nostrils and it was almost suffocating. Inko turns back around in the next split second to see what was going on, but all she's met with is a blinding flash, a deafening explosion, and searing pain.
