Chapter 5 - — Academy

As he made his way to Orientation, he noticed people staring at him, and they were staring at him rather intensely.

'It makes sense, only people from prestigious families and people who have scholarships get these black uniforms. Nobody really knows why, but it's just a perk. Everyone else wears white instead.'

He walked through the halls, steering around from corner to corner rapidly. He turned to the left, and then he turned to the right, on the sides were classrooms with different purposes, like alchemy and history. After taking a few more lefts and rights, he quickly realized he was lost.

"Hmph…what a shame…"

He tried to shrug off his embarrassing and fumbling mistake by pretending to be cool. Before quickly retracting his steps. When he approached a random area he finally saw two large metal doors. And opened them. He had finally entered the orientation area, a large room with velvet seats lining down to the bottom of the room where a stage was. The velvet seats looked silky and smooth, truly an epitome of noble status.

He ran his hand along the velvety texture and found a small spot to sit. Which didn't exactly stand out in the big crowd of people. Everyone there was…unique. Nobody really looked like each other. When the presentation started, an older woman who looked to be in her 50s approached the stand, her hair was grey and her face was wrinkled. She had just a slight smile on her face.

"Welcome to Xenis academy, I am your headmaster, Headmaster Rita. It is wonderful to be guiding this class. As it's filled with many talents. This year, Xenis academy has received more funding than ever before. And you will be able to learn and experience things nobody has ever before. Once again. Welcome to Xenis academy."

Clay and the rest of the people in the large room clapped for the headmaster as she took her leave. And then a girl approached the stand, she looked to be about the same age as Clay, with burning fiery red hair worn in a high ponytail, and blue eyes that seemed to glow. She was very pretty to say the least. Her eyebrows like brush strokes, and her lips perfect. The girl wore a black uniform, just like the one Clay was wearing, but it had a skirt.

"Hello, I am Nora Flamesworth, I am the student council president this year for this class. I am honored to be your student council president. Today we'll be welcoming all of our scholarship recipients. And I'm asking them to come up to the stage."

Clay watched as a few people dressed in the black uniforms got up from their seats and walked down to the stage, where they hopped up on it and lined up. Clay forgot to go up because he forgot he had a scholarship.

"Hm, it appears we're missing someone. Let's find them, shall we?"

Nora conjured a fiery bow in her fists and shot an arrow made of fire through the air, and it took Clay a second to realize it was flying towards him. He quickly conjured a wall of stone to block the fire blast from reaching him as he shot up from his seat.

"There we are. Please come down."

Clay got up and ran down to the stage, where he hopped up on it and lined up with the other people wearing black uniforms.

"Thank you."

Nora smiled at him, it was a bittersweet smile that scared him a little bit. But he didn't know why.
