Chapter 7 - — Fundamentals of magic arts

Mr.Faroth looked towards Clay and sighed.

"Anyways, since you're my only student. We can get this done quick. And maybe by next semester you'll have grown. Now let's start with what you already know about magic."

Clay looked at him and thought for a second.

"Well, I know magic is a life force that was created upon the shattering of what we call the greater power. And its entire life force spread along the lands creating magic. And I know that humans evolved to adopt magic into their bodies and created a new organ called the mana core. And in the first generation of magic, everyone would die because they were being poisoned because they didn't have the ability to inhale mana and instead of having it go in the mana core it got trapped in their body and killed them in many different ways."

Clay didn't say that much, but it was like his body was made to spit out information like bullets. He had forgotten that information either way.

'It seems the person who originally was in this body was big on history, and magic. Makes sense for a prodigy.'

"Alright. But sadly for you Mr.Solron, I wasn't asking for a history lesson. Tell me everything you know about magic. Your skills."

"Oh, uh, sorry…um…I know that I can currently channel magic in two different elements. Wind and Earth. I haven't had much training in earth but I think I've gotten a grasp of wind magic."

"Alright then, Mr.Solron, today I'm going to teach you about magical values."

Mr.Faroth began to write on his chalkboard, writing numbers 1 through 10.

"Uh…magical values?"

It was safe to say Clay was extremely confused.

"Yes, magical values. Each spell has a magic value. The base spell is just the normal spell you would use. For example a fireball. Let's say it has a value of 3. Now, what do you think would happen if I added a lightning bolt spell into it to create the fire bolt spell?"

"Uh…it would have a value of 6…?"

"Correct. Now, you may know but there are two different types of magic. Augmentation, and conjugation. Augmentation is when you take the magic and transfer it to something, like your sword. Or your outer body, to make your sword and body stronger and more durable. While conjuring makes you output your mana into a physical shape. Like for example, the fireball."

"Ah…yeah I understand."

"Good. Now, what do you think would happen if you augmented a spell, with, let's say…a sharpening spell, sharpening a wind blade with the value of 3 with a sharpening spell with another value of 2."

"Uh…the overall spell would have a value of 5?"

"Wrong. Augmentations don't add. They multiply. Unless that value is 0 of course, then they add. Which is why they add endurance and strength to your body and sword. Unless a spell was already applied. Which would multiply the strength and endurance instead of adding."

"Huh…that works weirdly."

"Mhm. But it's the way the world works. The law of the world will never be simple."

"True I guess…"

Clay spent the rest of the class studying Mr.Faroths long and drawn out lessons. By the time his class was over. The day was over. Clay was required to stay in the class the whole day due to his lack of education. But the next day would be different and he could start different classes.

When Clay got back to his dorm, he put on his sleeping clothes and immediately fell onto his bed. Not even bothering to put a blanket over him and immediately fell asleep. In the deep void of his sleep he heard something.

"Even the host of a god cannot handle the power of the kings…"
