Chapter 9 - Plans Begin

Walking through the city again, Veronik was no longer bothered by stares from passersby and could just calmly walk down the street. She reached the poor part of the city and her gaze turned cold when she saw the terrible conditions the people there lived in. It was even worse than how the poorest people in her past life lived.

Veronik walked around a bit, and observed the seriousness of the injuries and diseases the people there had. When she walked through the whole part of town once, she found an old man with his leg severed.

"Do you want to have your leg again?" she asked calmly.

The old man only looked at her with his eyes filled with hopelessness. "Only a high ranked healer master would be able to achieve such a foot, and someone like me can't afford that. I'm happy that I'm alive."

Hearing the man's words, Veronik squared down next to him, and without giving him the chance to react, she placed her hand on the remaining part of his thigh.

Before the man could move, the end of his thigh started bleeding, and nearly instantly, the leg started enlarging. It stung a bit, but the shock that the man felt was so much greater that he didn't even notice the pain.

After a while, his whole leg was regrown.

The old man looked at Veronik with astonishment, his mind unable to process what happened. "Thank you very much!" He banged his head on the ground. "Young lad, I can't repay you in any way, but I'll make sure that people know about your amazing skills!" he promised as Veronik smiled lightly and turned to leave.

"With your leg back, you should try to make your life better!" she left those words as she left.

After that, she remained in the poorest parts of the city and started making a name for herself as a young doctor who could instantly heal any wound and skillfully treat any disease.

After about a week, she saw someone ask around about her, the young youth with amazing medical skills.

She kept her distance and listened to the person, as he asked the others about her. She quickly found out his identity. He was the city lord's servant, and was sent over to scout out for the young doctor to treat the city lord's son who was critically injured while hunting.

When the person was about to leave helplessly because no one could tell him where she was, and could only describe what she looked like, Veronika appeared in front of him, and from what the people told him about her appearance, judging by her clothes, he instantly recognized her as the young doctor he was looking for.

"Young sir, please help me!" He grabbed on Veronik's sleeve, making her stop as she was walking down the street.

What he didn't know was that he was lured like a rat into a trap. Veronik, on purpose, wore similar clothes every day, for the people to be able to describe and recognize her easily. And when she found out that someone from the city lord's mansion was looking for her, she "casually" walked by him, to attract his attention.

"How may I help you?" she asked with a quite polite, but still very distant smile.

The servant smiled hopefully when he saw Veronik. "Young doctor, please help me!" He grabbed Veronik's hands and pleaded.

"What happened?" Veronik feigned ignorance.

The servant sighed. "My young master was infected by a strange disease and no one can help him. After my master heard about your great reputation, he ordered me to come ask you if you would help."

Veronik then feigned concern and asked a few more questions before agreeing to help, but saying that as the young master is, unlike the poor people, someone who can afford it, she will ask for slight compensation, because from her way of seeing it, his condition was trivial and any other less skilled healer could take care of it.

When the servant agreed, she let him lead her to the city lord's mansion, to the room of the "seriously sick", young master.

Entering the room, Veronik felt like cursing. She wasn't really a kind person, but the difference between the life of the young master and the poor people made her blood boil.

At first the servant told her that the young master had a strange disease and was in a serious state, and that no one could help him, but what she saw in front of her was merely a teenage brat with a slight fever, ordering people around like nothing was wrong with it.

Seeing Veronik enter the room, the young master scoffed arrogantly. "Who is this loser begging to see me?" he asked the servant, completely disregarding Veronik's presence.

But his words make a bitingly cold aura envelop Veronik, which caused the servant to gulp in fear. "Young master, this is the young healer who is reputable in the city recently," he spoke cautiously.

"The nobody who engages with the beggar?" the young master scoffed.

At that instant, the temperature of the air surrounding Veronik dropped to a new low, and her eyes started slightly showing their original scarlet color.

Looking coldly at the young master, she reverted her original appearance. The sudden change in her appearance shocked and scared everyone present.

Suddenly, instead of a delicate looking petite youth with black hair and black eyes, a stunning young lady with scarlet eyes and purple hair was standing in front of them with a cold gaze.

"Who-? Who are you?" the young master stuttered in fear.

Veronik glared at him coldly. "There are three kinds of people I hate. First: clueless idealist! Second: stupid scums! Third: second generation brats riding on the cocktails of their rich parents, thinking they can do anything they want!" her cold voice resonated through the room.
