Chapter 11 - 11

Very quickly, Veronik's hands started flying above the young master's body, stabbing needles into his acupoints. That caused throbbing pain in his bones, but he couldn't resist in any way.

After a long while, Veronik was done and pulled all the needles out of the young master's body. With that the young master regained control over his body, but he didn't dare to move, as a slight tingle of pain remained in his body.

Veronik then stepped away from the bed. "The young master's condition is stabilized now. For the next two days, he might feel slight tingling pain in his bones, but it will disappear." She bowed her head slightly as she spoke. "When the pain is gone, the young master will be fully cured."

Hearing Veronik's words, the city lord felt relieved. "Thank you, doctor! We are greatly indebted to you!" He smiled politely. "How about you stay here for a while, so we can repay you?" he asked carefully, hoping to get on Veronik's good side.

But Veronik only shook her head. "I need to be somewhere in a while, so I'll be leaving the city soon." She lied flawlessly.

The moment her words fell, the city lord sighed. "Then let me at least give you something in return for treating my son." He then turned and left, not even giving Veronik a chance of rejection. Veronik only secretly smiled and gave the young master a last glance, which was no longer chilly, but calm. She had achieved what she wanted and even vented her anger, so she felt highly satisfied.

She left the room and a servant led her to a drawing room, where she waited for the city lord. After a while, the city lord came with a ring in his hands. Veronik looked at the ring and lifted a brow. 'A spatial ring?' she thought to herself. 'In a low ranked suburban city like this?' She felt curious but she didn't probe.

Spatial rings weren't something rare in the country, but they rarely appeared in suburban cities. Even in the Count cities, only the nobles and their children had it, but here, in a suburban city with no nobles, a city lord was giving it to her as a gift.

"City lord, you can't be serious..." she frowned as she looked at the city lord.

The city lord clearly understood what she was thinking about. "Don't worry, doctor. No matter how great a treasure something is for me, it will never surpass the worth of my son's life. Please, take this spatial ring and the things inside of it."

Veronika was slightly taken aback. She only wanted to scam the city lord into giving her some money, but she never expected him to be such a loving parent towards his son. She didn't intend to make him give up something so rare for him.

But finally, after some persuasion, she finally accepted. In the end, though she inflicted a lot of pain on the young master, the acupuncture she used would open up and clear his meridians and tendons, which would greatly boost his cultivation in the future.

Later that day, Veronik left the city after bidding her farewell to the city lord, and reverted her appearance after summoning the four foxes out of her soul. "Sister Veronik, how did it go?" Luna asked as soon as she appeared.

Followed by her, the other two fox cubs started asking questions, only Ariel remaining calm.

"Sister Veronik, did you get hurt?" Silver asked worriedly.

"Sister Veronik, what will we do next?" Helen's eyes sparkled with excitement as she asked.

Veronik only smiled as Ariel shook her head helplessly. "Everything went just fine, and I'm not hurt. We will be going to a different city after I check the spatial ring," she spoke with a gentle smile as she petted the fox cubs on their fluffy heads.

After playing with the foxes for a bit, Veronik sat on a rock and looked at the spatial ring. Spatial rings worked very simply. One had to smear it with a little blood, and it would recognize them as their owners. Then, they had to put it on their finger, and they would be able to access what's inside of it.

Veronik did it and started looking through the ring's content, unknown to her that she was being watched.

A silhouette was sitting on a tree branch just above her head, observing her every movement with a sneer on his lips. The person had shadows concealing his face, but one thing was clear about him. Even in the shadows, it could be seen that he had silver hair and black eyes.

Watching Veronik, his sneer deepened. "What a strange little thing..." he mumbled to himself. "A Calmed Beast born of a human with the soul of a foreigner in a place like this."

If Veronik heard him at that moment, she would be shocked that he realized her identity at one glance. That could only mean that he wasn't from the realm she was currently in, but from a higher ranked realm, similarly to the strange man who gave her a new life in this world.
