Chapter 1 - Amnesia's Curse
The city was alive with lights. Neon signs flickered, casting colors on the wet streets. Thunder boomed, and rain poured down, soaking everything.
People moved through the rain, wearing raincoats and carrying umbrellas. They walked quickly, focused on their own lives, faces hidden under hoods.
A tall building standing in the middles of the colorful city suddenly blew up with simultaneous explosions.
"EH.....AAHHHHHH… An EXPLOSION!!"
"THERE'S A BODY… AHHHHHH!!"
…
An hour earlier.
*Bang*
A door was forcefully broken and well disguised figures emerged from it.
They were wearing business outfits, yet the same masks covered their faces. The masks had crouching tigers embroidered on them. The gaze in their eyes were ferocious and bloodthirsty.
"Who's there ?!" A frightened female voice sounded not far from the door.
"Ahh! Daddy, save me!" A rather young voice followed after.
"Quiet them." A heavy voice sounded from behind the disguised people.
Soon.
"Yes, Sir." A masked figure came forward and brought out a suppressed pistol.
*Silenced bangs* x 3
*Thud*
The sources of the two voices had suddenly become silent.
The masked figures left the room and placed a small bomb at some random doors. They would occasionally kill people too but planting bombs was more fun according to them.
Silenced gun shots were occurring in the tallest building of this colorful city.
A terrorist attack that was only focused on killing the residents of this certain building.
Kill on sight.
No conditions from the government.
Only spreading terror.
…
Inside Room No. 309
"Don't forget to take your medicines."
"Yep, I wrote it down." A middle-aged man spoke while his hands were scribbling on a certain notebook.
In his notebook.
"Task No. 45 - Check the bank details for salary update."
"Task No. 46 - Take medicines."
The man sitting on a black recliner shifted his gaze to a distant portrait.
It was a wedding portrait with two people kissing each other passionately.
Besides the portrait were small photo frames consisting of the identical two figures. In some portraits, there were also pictures of a newborn child's collage. It was a girl that looked 10–12 years old.
Sigh
"If only I was the same as before." The man said, lamenting his past.
Two years ago.
The middle-aged man named Elias Thorne had thought that he had everything he wanted. A steady paying job. A well-built apartment under his name. A lovely wife and his 10-year-old daughter.
Working as a civil officer and being able to publish his one and only novel that he had worked on for years, he had struck quite the fortune with his novel with thousands of copies being sold in a month.
Maybe he became too carried away in his daily life, but he was lucky until an incident happened.
He was involved in an accident and barely survived after crashing his head into a truck.
He survived, but he suffered from a unique kind of amnesia.
It was an amnesia that made him forget everything after an interval of 12–13 hours. It was already a miracle that he could remember his life completely before the accident.
The doctor's kept him under the study for a whole 5 months but couldn't derive any explanation. They only prescribed some regular medicines to him that he had to take on a daily basis.
The medicines didn't help at all, but it wouldn't hurt to keep himself in delusion.
He continued his life, and it was not even a week before he began to write his daily experiences and to-do tasks that he would give himself in notebooks. As an author, he knew the art of compressing his own words and understand them.
He also introduced this idea in front of his doctors, and they were dumbfounded that he was not discouraged at all.
Retired from the job and living off his side income, he was not worried.
But his fate could not resist the temptation to kick him in the head again.
His daughter and wife were not fine due to him leaving his job. Their monthly expenditures were just a drop away from his novel's income.
Being pressured from her friends and family, a divorce agreement was signed between the once lovely couple.
Elias didn't fight for his daughter's custody, as he knew that raising a child with his medical condition was not possible at all.
Even after being divorced, his ex-wife opposed to the marriages her parents proposed showing the deep affection in each other.
Both the pair of mother-daughter would occasionally show up to check on his condition. He would mostly be scolded by both of them for being messy, but he would still smile and agree after them.
Elias didn't mind at all because he cherished both of them.
…
Present time.
He came back to his senses and found out that a full hour had passed away.
Gathering the courage to step outside the door, Elias felt a chill run down his spine the moment he pushed open the door.
*Click*
Before he could react. A *beep* sound was heard.
*Boom*
