Chapter 2 - Floppy Ears and the Puddles

Once upon a time there was a bunny.

Now, this was no ordinary bunny, this bunny was pink with long skinny arms and long skinny legs. This bunny had long floppy ears and I think that was how he got his name. His name was "Floppy Ears".

'When rain keeps a bunny inside for the morning how can you find fun in a wet backyard.'

One morning, Floppy Ears woke up and got dressed to go outside. When he headed for the door his mom said, "Wait Floppy Ears, you can't go outside, its raining."

"But mom," said Floppy Ears, "it can't rain, I have too much to do outside."

"Sorry Floppy Ears, you'll have to wait until the rain stops"

Floppy Ears' ears drooped. He went over to the window and sat and watched it rain.

Mommy Bunny gave Floppy Ears some breakfast and told him not to worry. "When the rain stops there will be some extra special fun for you outside."

"What kind of fun?" asked Floppy Ears.

"You'll see."

Well, the rain stopped and with moms help Floppy Ears got dressed to go outside. He put on his raincoat, his splash pants and his yellow rubber boots.

"Have fun outside Floppy Ears." Mom said as she zipped up his coat.

Well, Floppy Ears went outside to play. When he went to his swing Floppy Ears saw that it was all wet and he couldn't sit on it.

He went to his slide but it was covered in water too.

It was too wet to play in the tree house and too wet to play ball.

Floppy Ears couldn't see any special fun to have in the yard. He started to stomp his feet and think to himself "where's the fun…where's the fun."

As he stomped, his foot went into a mud puddle. Splash went the water. Floppy Ears stopped. He stomped again, and again water splashed.

Floppy Ears grinned and looked around. He had an idea. He saw what he was looking for, a large puddle over by the driveway.

He walked over to the puddle and jumped with both feet. SPLASH! Water flew everywhere.

Floppy Ears grinned. He jumped again, splash. And again, splash. The water was splashing almost as high as Floppy Ears head. He started to giggle.

He looked around and saw three puddles all in a row. He started to run as fast as he could. Splash, splash, splash.

Then Floppy Ears found a stick and dug a little trench between the three puddles. Water started running between them.

He made a dam of rocks that stopped the water, then he broke the dam.

Floppy Ears had an idea. He got pail and took water from the big puddle and filled the three little puddles with more water.

This made the water run like a river. The water ran so fast it washed away his dam. When he rebuilt his dam he used rocks and pieces of wood to try to keep it from washing away. The water washed the pieces of wood down into the next puddle.

He got a couple of small sticks and made them into boats. The water added to the first puddle made a little river, the boats floated quickly between the puddles so Floppy Ears could watch them race.

Finally mom called to Floppy Ears to come in for lunch. "Did you find any fun things to do outside?" asked mom.

Floppy Ears told mom all about the puddles and all the things he did with them.

"Mom, do you think it can rain everyday so I can play in the puddles?"

Mom laughed and said, "We'll see."
