Chapter 5 - Floppy Ears Friends

For Olivia and Sunshine Bunny who gave the inspiration for this story.

Once upon a time there was a bunny.

Now, this was no ordinary bunny, this bunny was pink with long skinny arms and long skinny legs. This bunny had long floppy ears and I think that was how he got his name. His name was "Floppy Ears".

Early one Saturday morning Floppy Ears jumped out of bed. "Mom, Bunny's coming today" he hollered.

"Remember" said mom, "you have to share your toys and play nice."

When the doorbell rang Floppy Ears opened the door and in came Bunny.

"Let's play" said Floppy Ears, and the two friends headed for the family room.

"Let's ride the bike," said Floppy Ears.

"No," replied Bunny, "let's play with the kitchen."

The two friends went in opposite directions and started playing with two separate toys. Each friend ignoring what the other one was doing.

As mom walked by she looked into the room and saw what the two friends were up to.

"Floppy Ears...Bunny... Come over hear for a minute please." asked mom.

"When two friends play together it is important that they take turns and share the toys. If they don't then they won't stay friends for long."

Floppy Ears looked at Bunny, Bunny looked back. They both smiled at each other.

The two of them took off running back into the family room.

"Let's play with the fire truck." said Bunny.

"And the train." added Floppy Ears.

Floppy Ears played with the truck while Bunny played with the train and then after a few minutes they traded. Bunny drove the truck up to the train station. They pretended the train came off the track and needed to be rescued.

"This is fun."

"Sure is." answered Floppy Ears.

The friends played for a while longer then they stopped and had a snack. Mom brought them some milk, a banana each and a chocolate chip cookie.

After the snack they decided to try something else. They looked around the room and saw the box of blocks sitting in the corner. They nodded to each other and then they dumped the box of blocks out onto the floor.

"What will we build?" asked Floppy Ears.

"A barn, a house?" said Bunny.

They started to build. First they built a house. Then they built a fence around the house. They then took the house and fence and made them into a zoo. Floppy Ears dug out his toy animals and they spent the rest of the afternoon playing zookeeper.

When it came time for Bunny to go home the two friends gave each other a hug and said goodbye.

They had learned what it really means to be friends and how important it is to play together. From that day on, Floppy Ears and Bunny knew they would be friends forever.
