The morning light streamed through the thin curtain of the hospital window as the sun rose through the clouds. Despite the cold New York winter, a bit of sunshine managed to warm the air.
In the room, Ed approached the bed with a tray. "Mr. Stratton, here is your breakfast."
Alex, however, continued to stare out the window.
"Mr. Stratton, the nurse said you should eat something by now," Ed repeated, but Alex ignored him, his gaze still fixed outside.
"I'll have to call Miss Johnson to let her know you're refusing to eat as the nurse instructed," Ed added.
This remark finally drew Alex's attention. Ed saw a flicker of anticipation in Alex's eyes as he took out his phone.
"I'm going to call her," Ed said, raising his eyebrows slightly, awaiting a response. Alex didn't stop him.
In the kitchen of Emily's condo, Amita was helping clean up. "You can leave these to me, Ma'am," Amita offered, taking the plates Emily was holding.
