The restaurant was a cozy little place just around the corner. As they walked in, the warm lighting and soft background music provided a soothing ambiance. They were seated at a small table near a window, offering a quiet corner where they could talk.
Julian ordered for both of them, having learned her favourites over the years. As they waited for their food, he reached across the table and gently took her hand.
Instinctively, Emily pulled her hand away. "Sorry, Julian," she said, lowering her eyes. With a sigh, she continued, "I cannot give you what you want."
Julian's expression softened, his desperation palpable. "I don't mind if you don't love me, Emmy. I just want to be by your side, taking care of you and the twins."
Emily shook her head slightly. "No, that's not fair to you. You deserve much better."
