Chapter 9 - 9

Xiangyu's life was quite good. After a few months of flourished business, her mother couldn't resist her brother's persuasion and applied for unpaid leave from her job to start her own business. She became so busy that they couldn't see each other for one or two months at a time. Fortunately, Xiangyu was already accustomed to this from her previous life, so she didn't mind at all. The Chinese New Year of that year was particularly happy. Xiangyu's mother earned quite a bit of money, and they even booked a table at a restaurant for the New Year's Eve dinner, which was a luxury they had never experienced before.

But when the new semester started in the spring, Xiangyu felt bad. A new transfer student arrived in her class, a returnee from the countryside, but it was none other than Xiao Zhanyuan. The moment Xiangyu heard this name, she was almost terrified. The intense hatred in her eyes even startled the homeclass teacher. "Xiangyu, Xiangyu!" the teacher called her several times before she came back to her senses. Xiangyu couldn't control her emotions, so she had to bow her head and put her hands on her belly. The teacher thought she was unwell and suggested she go to the clinic or go back home to have a rest. So, Xiangyu packed her bag and asked for a leave to go back to home. When her grandmother saw her , silent and lying on the bed, she hurried over to feel her head to see if she had a fever. Only then did Xiangyu realize her grandmother's concern. She held her grandmother's hand and said, "Grandma, I am okie, I might have caught a chill, I'll feel better after a nap." Her grandmother then told her to take off her clothes and cover herself well with the blanket, then turned around to make her a cup of hot milk, telling her to drink it warm before going to sleep. As Xiangyu lay in bed, she kept thinking about Xiao Zhanyuan. In this life, she actually met Xiao Zhanyuan before meeting Lu Heng. She was so resentful just now that she didn't look carefully, she just remembered him as a slightly thin boy. She restrained her psychological aversion to Xiao Zhanyuan and recalled the Xiao Zhanyuan from her previous life.

In her previous life, Xiangyu's acquaintance with Xiao Zhanyuan was actually very accidental, so she thought that as long as she deliberately avoided him, he would not appear in her life. It turned out that was not the case. When Xiangyu was in college, she often went to a small noodle restaurant opposite the school to eat dumplings. Xiao Zhanyuan opened a car repair shop next to the small noodle restaurant. Once Xiangyu's bicycle chain broke, she went to his shop to get it fixed, and that's how they met. When they first met, Xiao Zhanyuan was a cool boy with a crew cut, wearing a sleeveless vest and camouflage pants, and wearing an earring. Later, every time she passed by to eat dumplings, Xiao Zhanyuan would come out and call her Xiangyu, without saying anything else, and she would politely smile and respond.

One night, she worked part-time and returned to school a little late. She was followed by two hooligans, one of whom began to touch her. She resisted desperately, but the difference in strength was too great, and she was pinned down by the jerk, her clothes torn. Xiao Zhanyuan came and chased the two bad men away, then took her back to the repair shop. He gave her his jacket and a new towel. He said the school dormitory was locked and she couldn't get in, so he asked her to stay here for the night, and he would sleep on the sofa outside. But Xiangyu just kept crying, crying until her whole body was shaking. Xiao Zhanyuan took a deep breath, wiped away the tears from Xiangyu's face with the towel, and then hugged her. Xiangyu's body stiffened, and then she struggled desperately. Xiao Zhanyuan hugged her tighter, but his tone was unusually gentle, "It's okay, Xiangyu, it's okay, don't be afraid, don't be afraid, Xiangyu, it's me, Zhanyuan, it's me, I'm here, they've all been chased away by me, it's okay, I'm here, you'll be fine." Xiangyu gradually stopped struggling, but she still couldn't stop crying, couldn't stop shaking, and later she didn't even know how she fell asleep. When she woke up, she was wearing the same clothes as last night, covered with a blanket. Then she got up, put on the jacket Xiao Zhanyuan gave her, and tied up her hair.

As she walked out, Xiao Zhanyuan was sitting with his back to her. Xiangyu thanked him softly, "Xiao Zhanyuan, thank you. I'll wash your clothes clean in a few days and return them to you." With that, she was about to leave. Xiao Zhanyuan grabbed her wrist and said, "You have several scratches on your hands and legs, you should apply some medicine before you leave." With that, he pointed to the medical kit on the table. Xiangyu went over and dealt with the wounds, which were actually just some minor injuries, far less serious than the emotional trauma she suffered.
