The army vehicle drives slowly towards our unknown destination. Inside, I notice three other people: two men and a woman, all dressed similarly, with an aura of determination and seriousness. We greet each other briefly before settling into a tension-filled silence.
I take a moment to observe them. One of the men, a tall muscular guy with close-cropped hair, gives me a curious look.
-My name is Marc, he finally said, breaking the silence, and you?
-Miroy, I replied, squeezing his hand.
The other man, smaller but with piercing eyes and a vigilant attitude, introduces himself.
- Enchanted Darcy
The woman, for her part, seems more reserved. She has fine features and a posture that betrays some military experience.
-I'm Ambrose, she said simply.
We all look at each other, each trying to guess what the others would bring to this mysterious mission. Marc is the first to ask the question that burns on our lips.
-So, does anyone have any idea what exactly we're going to do?
Ambrose shrugs.
-All I heard is that it's a special mission with a big reward. We were chosen for our discretion and reliability.
Mark nods.
-Yes, same thing on my side. Apparently it's pretty secret. They probably won't tell us the details until they get there.
I feel a little more at ease seeing that I'm not the only one who is confused.
-I accepted because... well, the reward is enormous. It could change my life, my family's life, I said, trying to justify my decision.
Marc nods.
-The same. I have a family to feed, and two million cannot be refused.
Claire seems more pragmatic.
-Whatever the personal reasons, we must prepare for everything. The amount they're offering means the mission is probably risky."
Darcy leans forward, interested.
-Anyone have any idea what type of mission this could be? Military, surely, but still?
Ambrose thought for a moment.
-Maybe a recovery operation. An object, a person... something valuable enough to justify such an amount.
Marc intervenes. "Or something really dangerous. If they're willing to pay that much, it's because they can't send regular soldiers."
I feel a thrill of adrenaline mixed with fear run through me.
-You think we're being used because we're more...dispensable than regular soldiers?"
Ambrose stares at the landscape passing by the window for a moment, before responding.
-It's possible. But whatever happens, we have to stick together. We don't know what we're getting into, but we have to stick together.
Everyone agrees, and a feeling of camaraderie arises among us. We are four strangers thrown into an unfamiliar situation, but we now share a common goal. We continue to chat, sharing our concerns, our motivations, and a few personal anecdotes to lighten the atmosphere.
The vehicle continues to roll, and although uncertainty still looms, I feel a little more prepared for what lies ahead. Whatever challenges lie ahead, I know I am not alone in this journey. We are a team, and together we will face the challenges that come our way.
