Chapter 8 - Love in the air.

She didn't even know why. "It's fine. Sorry for startling you," he said. He walked towards her. It seemed like his intention was to kill her so she got scared. This in turn made her look away from him. He studied her posture: it portrayed fear. She did actually hate him for not saving her friends.

'She wouldn't look at me because all she can see is disgust,' he thought. He left the room. She looked away for a bit and upon looking again, he was already gone. She walked to the guest bedroom, thinking hard.

Alex punched the mirror. He called himself weak. All he needed was an adventure. He didn't mention the reason for being angry. Even if he knew the walls had ears, it was decided. On the next day, he would be leaving to explore the forest.

Sarah tried to listen but she couldn't pick anything useful. He left the bathroom and pretended not to see her. And so he began preparations to leave early the next day. He sat on the couch first to think of a good reason. Recalling something important he had to do, he cancelled the trip.

"Sarah!" He called l. She came down and was directed to have a seat. But she did quit the opposite and sat beside him and leaned on him. "You should probably know that your fellow survivors are dead," he said calmly. She winced but nothing more than that. He'd expected her to get angry over that. "Also, on that day I rescued you, you were covered in blood and I had to..." He said. But he was interrupted by a hot slap to the cheek.

"You pervert," she said. "That wasn't the direction I was headed in," he replied calmly. He knew she was angry and so he is arm around her and held her closely. She wanted to move away but her own body betrayed her. "Do you remember this feeling?" he asked calmly.

She did.. It was infact a feeling of safety and that of being comfortable. It was on that day she fainted that the feeling came over her again. Maybe that was the reason she never asked about where she was when she regained conciseness. She continued to sink deeper into the embrace.

"You have to realize that I don't have much time," he said sadly. He gazed at the basement door and tears began to well up in his eyes. "What do you mean?" she asked. A tear drop landed on her cheek and she looked up to see his eyes bloodshot red. She could tell he was holding back the tears as he breathed while snuffling. "Why do you keep crying every time you look at that door? Whatever it is you're going through, I will be by your side" she softly said.

He covered his face with his palms and cried into them. She lay her head on his lap and watched him sobbing. "If it makes you feel any better, thanks for rescuing me," she said. His pain changed to joy as he gradually stopped weeping. She wiped his tears and said calmly "Come on. Men don't cry in front of ladies you know but you're one of a kind."

He looked at her face and wanted to just kiss her but he knew not whether it was the right time. As if reading his thoughts, she put her arms around his neck and pulled him closer. He took this opportunity and kissed. Although the kiss wasn't on Sarah's mind, She submitted anyway.

"Oh and by the way you're welcome," he said happily. Her pose was tempting but Alex flushed away his thoughts. "I should also warn you that walls have ears and I'm sorry I never understood how you feel," He said whilst gazing at her. On that very day, she had been complaining but she never thought he'd heard that. But anyways nothing happened and hence she nodded. He caressed her cheek while thinking back and forth. He felt happiness for the first time in a very long time.

Something he'd never felt before was love. Maybe all this was too good to be true. But either way, he cherished the moment. "By the way what were you rambling on about back there?" he asked. "I'm lost in thought," she replied. Smiling, she sat up then leaned on him.

He put his arms around her without thinking twice. "You know Alex, I've been thinking," she said. He hesitated as he had already guessed where she was going. "What?" he asked.

"It's about time we look for my sister she must be worried sick," she said. Alex laughed at himself for having guessed the wrong thing. "Should we begin tomorrow?" he asked. She nodded and hugged him tightly. This was a gift to say thank you. She hesitated on her next speech. Her words wouldn't come out. Alex didn't know what she was going to say so he waited. "Promise me something.. That you will always be by my side and I by yours," she said. He promised so.
