Chapter 16 - Chapter 16 The Land of the Abyss

"Good," Yuna gave her an appreciative look. "Tomorrow, I will open the portal for you, and my chief guard will follow you to The Land of the Abyss."

"Is that a Succubus?" Klaus asked. "Why is she going with us?"

"If you die there," a strange smile tugged at the corners of Yuna's mouth, "maybe she can bring your bones back to me as incense materials."

"We're not going to die," Klaus said firmly.

"I'm not so sure," Yuna deliberately covered her mouth with her hands as she laughed.

"To celebrate your mission, I decided to have a party tonight. Right here, I hope you all participate."

"We're not going to a party. We just want to have a good rest."

"Okay," Yuna was a little disappointed and said, "Then we'll wait until you get back to have a party."

"If you can come back alive," she added.

With that, Yuna asked a Succubus, who was guarding the door, to take Klaus and Rand to the guests' private room to rest. Klaus and Rand began arguing as soon as they got back to the room.

"Why did you agree to that Succubus's request?" Rand grumbled. "You have no idea what we're up against."

"Have you forgotten the task that Elder Quinn has given us?" Klaus reminded his brother. "And he made it imperative for us to complete the task. No, it's you who have to complete the mission."

"Then you should let me decide if I want to go to The Land of the Abyss," Rand rebuked. "I'm the future patriarch."

"Do you want that Succubus named Yuna to look down on us?"

Klaus had no intention of continuing the argument with Rand, and he would not tell Rand that this was the task the system had given him. Though he knew that the Gray Spider would be more powerful than all the fiendish beasts he had encountered before, he was no longer afraid this time. Because each training period allowed him to grow quickly, he knew exactly what his ultimate goal was.

"If you don't want to go, I'll do it myself," Klaus said firmly.

"You're just crazy," Rand angrily slammed the door and walked away.

Rand did not return until the early hours of the following morning. Klaus thought to himself that if Rand had gone out of fear, he would never have been angry about it. And that would be his fight alone.

Klaus put on his armor and stuck three spears in his back, and when he was ready to go out, the Succubus named Ruby was already waiting for him outside the door.

Ruby led Klaus to a silent wood, where he saw Yuna standing in the middle of the woods, still wearing the same clothes she wore the day before. Through the crevices of the leaves, the faint light of dawn fell upon Yuna's form, which from a distance was simply beautiful.

"Where is your companion?" asked Yuna.

"He's not going to be involved in this operation," Klaus said.

"It's just you?" Yuna asked uncertainly, "Are you sure you can deal with the Gray Spider alone?"

"I don't mind if you go with me," Klaus quipped, "If you want."

Yuna smiled and said, "No."

"And what are we waiting for?" Klaus patted the spear on his back, "I can't wait to give the gray spider a taste of my spear."

"I really admire your courage," Yuna gave Klaus an appreciative look, "You're much braver than your companions."

Yuna turned her head and looked into the middle of the empty meadow, and then she opened her hands and closed her eyes, and she murmured an ancient incantation.

Klaus heard the rustle of the wind in his ears, and the murmur of Yuna's voice floated around him, and presently the light in the wood was instantly dimmed.

Yuna's whispering grew faster and faster, and the wind blew faster and faster. In the next second, Klaus saw that Yuna's folded wings had suddenly unfurled, and that her tail was erect in mid-air.

Immediately afterwards, a great golden circle of light appeared in the middle of the meadow.

"The portal has opened," Yuna said to Klaus, "You can go in."

Just as Klaus was about to enter the portal, Rand's quick voice came from behind.

"Wait, Klaus!" Rand ran in the direction of Klaus, hatchet in hand.

"Rand?" Klaus was surprised, "I thought you weren't coming?"

"How could I leave my brother alone to face the Grey Spider?" Rand put his arm around Klaus' shoulders and said, "I'll go with you."

They then entered the portal together, followed by the Succubus, Ruby.

It was the first time Klaus had ever entered a portal, and as soon as he and Rand stepped inside, a powerful gust of wind instantly struck them, and the blinding light inside the portal forced them to cover their eyes with their hands. The wind almost carried them off, but fortunately it did not last long.

When at last the sound of the wind died away, all was suddenly silent around them.

"Where is this?" Rand surveyed his unfamiliar surroundings.

"This is The Land of the Abyss." Ruby pointed to the cave behind Rand with a trident in his hand, "The entrance is from here."

Klaus realized that they were outside a cave, through the mouth of which some bones were piled up, and from which a rancid smell was wafting.

"Will you go in with us or not?" Klaus asked Ruby.

"I'm not going to go in with you." Ruby crossed his hands over his chest and said coldly, "If you're eaten by the Grey Spider, I'll wait here for the maggots to give you your bones out. Elder Yuna has told me to bring back your bones if you die."

"Then you'd better stay alive and wait for us to come out." Klaus turned to Rand, "Let's go, Rand."

"Wait, this glowstone is for you to light your way." Ruby said as she pulled a glowstone out of her bra and tossed it to Klaus.

"Thank you." Klaus took the glowing stone and started toward the entrance of the cave.

In the light of glowstone,Klaus and Rand enter the cave.the glowstone, Klaus and Rand entered the cave. As soon as they set foot in the cave, a cold sensation immediately enveloped their bodies. As they walked along the narrow, bumpy road, the rancid smell became more and more pronounced.

Suddenly, Klaus's foot seemed to strike something, and he looked down to see that it was covered in blood and putrid flesh. Rand touched Klaus on the arm and motioned him to look to the right.

Klaus saw a large white maggot gnawing at something, and perhaps the glowstone's light caught the maggot's eye. Its mouth stopped moving, and the next second, it turned its head to look at Klaus and Rand.
