Chapter 8 - searching for a resident

Down town, Tony Blend was in a meeting when his men came rushing in. "What is the problem this time?" Tony Blend asked while observing his men. Noticing that Victor Von Domon wasn't among the group, he asked, "And where is Victor?" The men could only stare at each other, too agitated to explain. One of the men finally braved himself and said, "He left us, sir." Tony Blend was flabbergasted at this news. He wondered what could have happened to Victor Von Domon to make him leave. He called out to someone in the shadows, "Shadow master, I have a task for you. Capture or kill Moore with immediate effect." He then signaled for the shadow master to leave.

Back at the restaurant, Victor Von Domon spoke to Moore with a respectful tone. "Master, you are in danger. Now that I have pledged to serve you, I feel it's my duty to warn you." Christopher and Emily were shocked. Emily quickly asked Moore about what was going on and why Tony Blend was after him. After giving them a brief version of the story, Moore felt disdain. Victor Von Domon spoke again, "Your family is safe for now, but you must distance yourself from them to avoid putting them in harm's way. I will use my contract to be notified in advance if anyone dares to attack." He added, "I have to go now. There is something I must attend to, master." Moore nodded and said, "Keep in touch." With that, Victor Von Domon left.

The next day, Moore was at the office going through some documents when Marcy walked in. "Hello, Mr. Moore," Marcy greeted. "Hello, Marcy," Moore replied. "Marcy, I am looking for a good apartment in a nice neighborhood." Before Moore could finish his sentence, Marcy spoke, "You are in luck. After work hours today, I will show you around. I am very sure we will find a good and beautiful apartment that will suit your taste in no time."

Later that evening, Moore and Marcy drove to Lakeside View Apartments, a high-end residential area with a lakeside view. The scenery was spectacular, with a mix of natural and man-made features. Marcy took Moore straight to the management building where they met Antonio Diaz, the sales representative. "Hello, Marcy, it's been a while," Antonio greeted. "I see you are still looking as beautiful as ever." Marcy smiled and chuckled before replying, "Antonio Diaz, meet Moore Alexander. Moore Alexander, meet Antonio Diaz." After Marcy finished with the introductions, she explained the reason why they were there.

A few minutes later, Moore and Marcy were going through a brochure with pictures of various apartments. After looking through the brochure, they decided to go for an inspection of a two-bedroom flat on the sixth floor with ample space, a well-decorated living room, and a view of the lake. Upon choosing the best available option, they went back to the management building where Moore paid a thirty percent deposit and the remaining seventy percent over a period of a year. With that, he signed all the necessary documents and was given the keys to the apartment.

Moore spoke to Marcy, saying, "It's been a long day. Why don't we go grab a bite?" To which Marcy replied, "The closest restaurant is on Apple Street." They then decided to head to the nearest restaurant they could find. Marcy mentioned that they serve a mean steak and the setting in the restaurant is beautiful. "I've heard the steak is to die for," Marcy remarked. They got into Marcy's car and drove to Apple Street.

A while later, Marcy parked the car in an underground parking lot just one block away from the restaurant. As they were leaving the parking lot, a group of ruffians, numbering about eight, walked out from behind them without even acknowledging Moore, and instead focused on Marcy. One of them said, "Hello pretty lady, do you need a man?" Another chimed in, "I am much better looking than the one you're with." Another one spoke, "Honey, I will satisfy you tonight." Marcy ignored their comments and turned to Moore, saying, "I know that some of these places have been the scene of attacks by these young ruffians." As she spoke, one of the ruffians attempted to grab her but Marcy quickly reacted and struck back. Her movements were swift, like a mixture of sweet melody and tango. Her technique seemed effortless, borne out of sheer brilliance. Within a minute, all the ruffians were on the floor screaming in pain and agony. Moore was shocked and could not believe what he was seeing. Marcy, who seemed like a delicate flower in distress, had turned out to be the stronger one. After composing herself, Marcy said, "Can we go now?" Moore could only gesture for her to lead the way. As they walked down the block, heading towards the restaurant, Moore suddenly stopped, as if sensing something or someone. He looked around, but then decided it was nothing. Marcy, noticing that something was off with Moore, asked, "What is it?" Moore replied, "I felt the presence of someone. I can't explain it, or maybe it's nothing. I'm just being cautious." He tried to shrug off the feeling. Marcy replied, "Never ignore that instinct. It may save your life from unknown danger."

Unknown to them, a shadowy figure stood in a dark corner, observing them as they entered the restaurant. The figure suddenly realized they were about to be discovered and quickly hid in the shadows once again. The shadowy figure murmured to himself, "This guy is no average Joe. He could sense me from afar. I mustn't underestimate him." The shadowy figure was none other than the shadow master.

Little did the shadow master know, there was another person hidden in the shadows, observing Moore and Marcy. This mysterious individual had a mischievous grin on their face. "You are quite perceptive to have noticed my presence," they said. "We will meet again soon enough." With that, the mysterious person smiled and disappeared.
