Chapter 30 - Limelight. [5]

At the station, inside the shared office of team one and three of the violent crimes unit.

The Chief was addressing the two teams as he was drawing his debriefing to a close.

"I'll make the news public tomorrow to ease the public, but starting from today, violent crimes unit team one and team three will be merged into a task-unit dedicated to catching this killer… Uh, That'll be all." The Chief finished, walking out the office while some of the officers slightly bowed as he left the room.

A few sighs erupted around the office as some of the detectives expressed their thoughts; "We don't get a say if we want to be in the task force." "What can we do? It's the Chief's order." "Dammit, if we fail to catch this guy, the public will blame us."

*Clap* *Clap* *Clap*

"Alright listen carefully."

The negative discussion ceased with the loud clapping as they turned to Kang In-Hyuk who walked in front to address them.

"I know some of us have complaints about this, but what's done is done and we should get prepared…" Kang In-Hyuk paused as he looked around the silent office for any uncooperative people as he continued;

"First matter, due to the recent incident where two of our colleagues were injured, leading to the escape and death of an arrested suspect, we have discovered that the unknown informant inside this station is most likely to have cooperated with the killer."

Some of the officers looked at each other in shock at what was just said except for Yeon-Hee, Dae-Bom and Tae-Seok who knew as they stood next to each other at the back.

"We also discovered that the informant is not one of the people who participated in the human trafficking raid last week, so everyone in this room is safe…"

Everyone in the room nodded at the people beside them in relief since they had all participated in the raid.

"But, information can still be leaked so two internal control measures will be implemented…" He interjected and paused again so everyone would pay attention.

"The first is that the use of digital technology will be severely limited. This is because the informant has access to the police database to which they could divulge our progress to the killer." Everyone nodded in understanding.

"The second is that no one is allowed to talk about the case to anyone outside of this room. That also includes those that were present in the raid, understood?"

"Yes, sir." Everyone replied softly and in disorder.

"Understood?!"

"Yes!!" They replied with unison with their hands to their sides.

"Then let's get to work."

Inside a glass chandelier white room with multiple high-quality wedding dresses was a woman standing in front of several mirrors, as she admired how the wedding dress accentuated her slim figure and beautiful looks with the occasional "Mmm" of satisfaction.

A melodious ringtone came from her beige purse as she sighed at the disruption and put out her hand.

"Phone." The woman ordered the other attendant, wearing a black blazer and black skirt who walked to the purse on the couch and took out the ringing phone as she gave it to the annoyed woman and slightly bowed, walking back to her corner.

The soon-to-be bride looked at the caller and tsked, before she answered the phone.

"I thought we agreed never to call each other… What?!" The woman replied in shock to the caller, blocking the phone with her palm and turning to the attendant.

"Get lost." She said, putting the phone back to her ear as the attendant bowed and left the room.

"Kyung-Jun is dead? How?" She asked, putting her hand on her hip.

"He was killed by the serial killer in the morning, do you not read the news articles?" The male voice replied.

"Ah, f**k. Why would I do that when I'm busy preparing to get married. And why would I care if he got killed?"

"Because of the accident at the club-" The male voice was cut off by the woman.

"Hey, F**k! why are you bringing that up, huh?" She injected in anger, not noticing that the door was slightly opened as a figure in black wearing a biker's helmet was peeking at her through the gap.

"The matter was concluded as an overdose! That b*tch overdosed! F**k!..." She walked in circles on the same spot, taking deep breaths before she spoke to the caller.

"Hey, Kwon Seung-Ho, stop being such a b*tch and grow a pair, alright." The woman cut the call,

"Come back in!" She yelled as she faced the mirrors with her eyes closed and hands on her temples, oblivious to the person walking into the room as they turned the lights off.

"What!... Turn the lights on!" She angrily yelled, turning back to the door as she went quiet.

The outlined figure in all black stood there silently, breathing heavily as if he was boiling with anger, before he rushed the woman who could do nothing but scream.

Coming back several minutes later was the attendant who went to the bathroom to avoid the woman as she entered the room and saw the lights off which she found strange, turning them on.

She looked at the place where the woman had been standing, immediately being struck with horror and fear as she fell backwards, screaming at the top of her lungs.

In the room, slumped onto a broken mirror with multiple stab wounds on her stomach that stained the bottom of the dress red as her eyes had been stabbed in as blood flowed down her cheeks. In her empty sockets were red spider-lilies! Five in each eye!

The fifth victim had been found!
