Chapter 8 - Retrace. [2]

Yeon-Hee walked down the street, observing and deducting all the possibilities and chances of the figure in black and Kim Ho-Sung, from the alleyway that lead to a dead end but had a camera in its view to the chances of receiving help from a passerby to escape but was ultimately scratched by the obvious fact that Kim Ho-Sung was dead.

'Come on, think!' Yeon-Hee yelled inward, constantly observing the long street filled with a few cars. She walked for another two minutes before suddenly stepping on something crunching under the slim black boots she wore, stopping her in place.

She lifted her boots and saw broken pieces of an unidentifiable white material of an object mixed in with plastic glass shards and wires. Quickly kneeling and picking up one of the white pieces and studying it carefully, she flipped it around and saw writing on the corner of the piece.

"Yeon-Tec Security." She softly read it and looked up at the street-light post to her left. A slight smile appeared on her face as she stared at the broken camera, fixed on the light post.

'Found you.' She thought as she turned to face the alleway to her right, taking out her phone to survey the map and check if it was a dead end, it wasn't. She sighed, quickly standing and walking into the alleway. There was a fallen black dumpster in front that she made a note of as she stepped over it and continued on. She arrived at a turning point going left and followed it. She walked on, reverting back to studying her surroundings in case of any underlying danger, when she spotted glass shards laying on the floor below a slightly large window.

She walked over to examine the broken shards, not noticing the hidden figure watching her in the darkness from the broken window. Yeon-Hee stopped just in front of the shards and knelt, picking one up. Its sharp tip was bloody as it layed there normally with the others which bothered Yeon-Hee.

As she took a picture of it after placing it back, a shuffling sound came from the window that made her look up, staring at the eyes of a spectator. She creased her eyebrows as she became even more alert, with a drifting grip on her unlatched holster. The alleway was silent except for the next few seconds.

After filling out the necessary paperwork, Sun-Jae quickly got a taxi and arrived at Seishin church as mass had ended and the congregation was pouring out of the tall, white church building. He stood still as the taxi drove away and began walking up the steps wading through the church members.

He finally stepped into the building, immediately gazing at the large room with empty rows of benches. The lights were on this time so he didn't get to see the mesmerising glass artworks in the dark. Some of the members walked to the front of the church instead to greet the priest, Sun-Jae's grandfather.

Sun-Jae smiled and took a step forward when something caught his attention. Just inside the corner of his left eye, being forced to go outside by a burly but chubby man wearing black sweatpants and jacket to hide the stretched tattoos, was Im Jin-Ah's grandmother. She was wearing a pink wool jacket over a black sweater and a long skirt with a white little handbag with flowers stitched on. Her wrinkled face tried to hide the panic and fear in her eyes from the other church members but quickly as she was pushed out violently by the man.

Jin-Ah's grandmother was dragged around the church to a dark hidden corner where the man pulled down his hoodie and spoke to her.

"Did you miss me? Huh, grandmother." Softly but violently asked the chubby man. His face was creased in anger as he hovered over her, not daring to look her in the eyes.

"J-Jae-Seok. You're here. I'm glad you got out." She replied, stuttering in fear as her hands shook while moving to pat his shoulders, only to be pushed away violently by the man with a tattoo on his neck.

"Don't lie to my face, you old bi*ch. What? Did you think moving houses would help after one of you two reported me to the police?" He replied in a shrew and spiteful tone, pushing her against the stone wall.

"Who was it that reported me away? It was Jin-Ah, right?" He asked as she remembered what he did to her the last time he was angry at her, grabbing her grandson's hand.

"No, it was me. I called them." She said, instantly caught as he didn't believe her in the slightest. His eyes were wide and turning manic that scared her into looking down again.

"F*ck, you're a terrible liar." He grumbled, raising his hands to strike at her. She closed her eyes, expecting the attack to come, but it didn't. Sun-Jae had snuck up behind them and caught the man's hand in time as he gripped it hard. The man turned to face Sun-Jae, spotting his police I.D card on his chest. Sun-Jae was silent but his grip was clenched tightly around the man's arm as veins sprawled from his neck to his jaw.
