Chapter 13 - The Mole Issue. [2]

Kim Yeon-Hee and Kang In-Hyuk were sitting on two dark brown leather couches facing each other while the Chief sat down on a couch opposite them. His office was large and set up very stylishly which still shocked Yeon-Hee whenever she was in here.

'I guess you can be annoying and still have a good sense of taste.' She thought as the Chief sipped on the coffee that he made from his coffee machine placed next to the shut windows. The lights shone a soft copper colour that accentuated the brown wooden walls of the room.

"The reason I called you here is to discuss the case. Since you both know the reason why homicide cases are temporarily assigned to the violent crimes unit for the time being." The Chief stopped and sipped his coffee again.

'The homicide unit.' Yeon-Hee thought as she remembered the incident of three months ago. It was discovered that members within each team of the homicide unit had been involved in various illegal activities such as bribery, tampering of evidence, ignorance of certain crimes and so on. When questioned on who their associates were, they mentioned various members of their own teams who denied their involvement but could not disprove it. Eventually the unit was temporarily disbanded while the matter is currently still pending on investigation.

"Along with the informant issue that has damaged our police station's reputation even further, this potential serial murder case is also becoming another underlying danger. So I've decided that both team one and three will work together to quickly solve this case." The Chief finished, as both Yeon-Hee and In-Hyuk were absolutely silent while exchanging glances.

"Apologies, but we would be more comfortable if one team handled the case." Yeon-Hee spoke out about the concern that the both of them had. It was not that they refused to cooperate, they never had any conflict as they barely interacted. It was just that they knew this was a recipe bound for disaster when mixing things in a rush, especially during this period.

'They're on the second floor while we're on the first, that wouldn't work at all.' Yeon-Hee thought as the Chief spoke.

"This isn't about comfortability, this is about efficiency. This case needs to be closed as soon as possible without grabbing more attention." The Chief finished as he took out his phone and made some random excuse to avoid discussing the matter any further, remembering something as he added, "Ah, send the new detective back to the narcotics unit."

Yeon-Hee and In-Hyuk got up and left the office. After closing the door, they stood there in silence.

'Ah, this is annoying.' Yeon-Hee thought as In-Hyuk cleared his throat.

"There's space in our office if you want to move there." In-Hyuk said, pointing to the office across written violent crimes unit, team three. Yeon-Hee nodded slowly.

"Thank you. I'll inform my team." She replied, slightly bowing before heading downstairs to her office.

Kang In-Hyuk returned to his office and sighed as he looked at the faces of his team members waiting for a reply.

"Starting today, team three will be working with team one." He said, walking to his desk. The members groaned and sighed unhappily as they sat in their chairs.

"I understand it's uncomfortable, but the Chief wants the case solved quickly." He added, staring at Sun-Jae who was concentrating on his computer screen, before he added, "Sun-jae, as your undercover case is over, you are to go back to the narcotics unit."

Sun-Jae immediately looked up from his screen, nodding slowly with a "Understood." as he sighed.

"Hey, drink tonight." One of the team members added softly as he stood up to prepare to make space for team one.

"Sure." Sun-jae slightly bowed, sighing again before he began to pack his belongings.
