Chapter 7 - Team Death Match

Rowin slammed his palm on the desk and Chris woke up startled. He looked up at Rowin with a frown that quickly turned into a tired smile once he recognized him. "Oh, hey bro. I didn't know you were in the special training class too. Also, did you see the copy meant to replace me? I'm dead tired."

"Your copy is still getting ready. Why did you even come to class if you knew that a clone was coming to replace you? " Rowin asked Chris' clone who could barely keep his eyes open.

" I didn't know that a clone was coming. I just spent the night in the classroom. "

" What do you mean by that? Which group were you with? " Rowin asked curiously. He didn't remember any of the clones planning to stay in the classroom.

" I was with the library group and I only came here after we got kicked out for beating up some nuisances in the library. " The clone said as he stood up to leave. His replacement had arrived.

" Shouldn't you be in trouble for fighting? How are you still here? "

" Ask the other guy, I'm going to sleep. Also, I'll be using your bed so call me when you leave class so that I can clean up before you get there. " The clone said as he walked to the door just to get into a stare down with the other clone." You're late, stupid ."

"We have the same brain. You just called yourself stupid too." The other clone answered proudly.

"But I spent the night studying, so I'm actually smarter than you." The sleepy clone said smugly.

" You're both stupid. Now one of you better be seated and ready to learn in the next thirty seconds or else." A deep voice said from outside the classroom. Everyone quickly got seated and Rowin found a place next to Chris. The teacher walked in and it was the bald man in a white coat. For some reason, Rowin wasn't even surprised.

Someone had to have recommended him for the special training class. Rowin had seen many students with bruised knuckles meaning that fights were common and not something the principal should bother with. Therefore, Rowin could confidently assume that he had gotten the bald teacher's attention, hence his placement in the current class.

" We have a new student today, his name is Rowin. Rowin, please introduce yourself to the class." The man said and gestured for Rowin to stand up.

" Good morning everyone, as you've just been told, my name is Rowin. I joined the school yesterday and my ability is telekinesis. I'm just hear to study so I hope we can get along." Rowin introduced himself quite easily. He had moved to multiple schools so introducing himself to a classroom wasn't new.

"That's good. My name is Mr B and I will be your teacher for the next four years. Please don't hesitate to come to me in case of anything. I'm happy to help." Mr B said with a smile. Rowin thanked him as he sat down and waited for the lesson to start.

" Okay then, since we have a new student, we will do a quick recap of what we studied for the past few months. Let's start with physics. Last time, we were... Yes, Ryan." Mr B said to Ryan who had lifted his hand.

" Ten." Ryan said simply and Mr B nodded as if he understood.

" Nine."

" Ten."

" Nine and half." Different students started mentioning numbers ranging from eight to ten. Chris suddenly said six which caused everyone to look at him strangely. Even Mr B raised an eyebrow at that. " Can you explain why you think that it's six?"

" You underplayed it a lot. You had the opportunity to completely exaggerate but you didn't. It was underwhelming." Chris answered with a serious expression.

" Noted. I will try that next time. What did you think of my performance, Rowin? Did I sound like a convincing teacher?" Mr B said with a mischievous smile on his face.

" Wait! What!!?" Rowin blurted out when he heard Mr B's question.

"Don't get me wrong, I am a teacher. Just not the conventional kind. Anyway, enough shenanigans, let's head to the teleporters." Mr B said as he strode out of the classroom. Every student immediately stood up and followed behind him with Rowin and Chris bringing up the rear.

"What the hell is going on here, Chris?" Rowin asked in hushed whispers that were masked by everyone's footsteps.

"The special class undergoes unique and classified training that regular members of the Sleeper Association don't. We rarely spend anytime in the classroom since we train outside school grounds. The purpose of our training is to create a few strong individuals that integrate with society and serve as a secret police force of sorts.

As for Mr B, he is always like that. The fake teacher act is sort of a tradition to welcome new members to the class." Chris said as they walked behind the group that was quietly murmuring amongst themselves.

"Then where are we going? I heard something about teleporters, meaning that it's gotta be far away." Rowin asked. He was curious about the special training since most Powered received self-defense training and control training so that they don't accidentally harm others with their powers.

"I can't tell you that since I signed a Non-discretion Agreement that prevents me from giving details about it. You'll be given one to sign before teleporting with us." Chris said with a shrug as they entered another building.

Rowin noticed that the hallway they entered looked the same as the one in the classroom block but with no doors or windows on the sides. At the end was a thick set of double doors that Mr B opened by placing his watch above the scanner. Behind the doors lay a large room with almost a hundred slightly elevated, circular, white pads that were aligned in perfect rows.

"Everyone, get on a teleportation pad. Rowin, come with me." Mr B said and led Rowin towards an inconspicuous door at the side of the room. They walked up a flight of stairs and ended up in a much smaller room with three other men. There were dozens of holograms showing a live view of the teleportation room that the men were monitoring.

" Send me the special class NDA, I have a new student joining the trip." Mr B said as soon as they entered the room. Mr B's watch blinked twice to show that a notification was received. He forwarded the documents to Rowin who immediately opened a holographic screen to read it.

" That's the agreement all students of the special class sign. It prevents you from disclosing any information regarding the training you receive whenever we leave the academy. The only people you can speak to about it are those who have undergone the same training class. The contract goes into more details in order to prevent loopholes but you get the idea." Mr B explained. Rowin didn't even bother reading it and just signed the contract.

" You're not gonna read it?"

" I wasn't planning on talking to anyone in this school, this just gives me an excuse." Rowin answered casually. Mr B only raised an eyebrow and told Rowin to head to the teleportation room.

A few minutes later, everyone was standing on a teleportation pad as a blue light shone from them. Rowin felt weightless for a second before his vision went blurry then completely dark. He was jolted awake by the sensation of something cold and hard pressing against his body. His body felt uncomfortable in ways he didn't even know were possible and he couldn't even determine the direction of gravity.

It was only after a minute that Rowin recovered enough to tell that he was lying on a metallic surface. He struggled to lift his upper body and survey his surroundings. The first thing Rowin noticed was that almost everyone was in a somewhat similar situation to his except for a few. Mr B, Ryan and four other students were standing, though the students had shaky legs.

Chris was also standing though he was being held up by two clones. Seeing this, Rowin used his telekinesis to levitate and orient himself. This allowed him to view the place they were in. Dull grey walls surrounded them and a single door was in front of them. There was a man standing there dressed in all black clothes.

Mr B approached him and talked for a while till everyone had recovered from teleportation sickness. The class followed the man through winding hallways till they reached a large hall. There was another group of people, that Rowin assumed to be students from a different school, standing around a tall woman.

The woman noticed their appearance and immediately led her group towards them.

"Nice of you to finally join us. I was afraid you wouldn't show." The woman said mockingly while staring down at Mr B.

"Let's just get this over with." Mr B said as he returned her gaze. Turning to his students, Mr B cleared his throat and announced," They challenged us to a team death match, so you'll have to kill them if you wish to survive."

Rowin's eyes widened in shock and a cold chill went down his spine. Goosebumps rose on his skin and his heart threatened to break out of his chest.
