Chapter 2 - Chapter 2

Phoenix dynasty

A teenage girl lies on the ground beside the stream. Her body is unmoving and cold. In just a second the body is seen taking a deep breath of air. The girl lies there for a few hours then slowly opens her clear blue eyes.

Iris looks around her sharply; the vegetation and trees around her looks magnificent. The stream is calm and clear, a few metres ahead a beautiful waterfall is seen. The sight before her is breathtaking but right now Iris doesn't have the time to appreciate it.

Iris looks at her skinny body, her hands are rough and the skin broken but it's better than her previous hands which was missing nails and all sorts of whipping marks. Iris inspects her body and finds that she's mostly sore but nothing is broken.

Iris crawls to the edge of the water and looks at her reflection. A small sucken face with big blue eyes looks back at her. Her long hair is unkempt like a birds nest. Iris stares at the face in the water without blinking. She's filled with questions.

Didn't she just die in the hands of Diana? Why was she in someone else's body? Why was she dressed in such an outdated wornout clothes? Why was she still alive? Suddenly memories of another person floods her mind.

Iris suddenly exclaims, "you've got to be kidding me?"

Iris sits down with despair written all over her body. In the memories she discovers she's been reborn in the body a teenage girl who's a slave in a commander's home.

The girl was abandoned by her family in a far away place. She was rescued by a widow whom didn't have children of her own. And just as she adopted the girl she was offered a job by the man she happened to rescue. The man was the uncle of the commander.

The widow accepted the job and travelled miles of kilometers for her new job. When she reached the phoenix dynasty she started her job and she was loved by all because she was a good-natured person. When the girl reached 3 years old the widow died after contracting an incurable disease.

The girl, Clarissa, was taken care of for a few months but then no one wanted to take her in and so she was taken as a slave by the mistress of commander.

Ever since she was made to do all kinds of meanial jobs and as she grew older she was harassed by the other slaves and maids of the mansion. She didn't even have a proper place to stay so she slept with the pigs.

She ate and slept with the pigs, she was overworked and had little to eat. She would do cleaning, farmwork, clean out the horses and pigs and to make it worse she'll be the target practice for the commander's children.

She was made to crawl on her knees and hands when serving the children. She was beaten, rode like an animal, pissed on and even made to clean up their chamberpots with her hands. The children would laugh and exclaim in happiness at her misery.

Clarissa was sent to search for a certain herb by the chief maid. The problem was that the herb was deep into the forest where wild animals lived. Even an experienced hunter would have to be extremely careful but the chief maid didn't care. She was told that she'd be sold off if she didn't bring the herb and so Clarissa went.

Clarissa walked in the forest cautiously but she was still chased by a wild boar. She ran aimlessly in the forest and ended up slipping down a slope and plugging into the stream. Clarissa didn't know how to swim, she ended up drowning. And in those minutes after her death another soul entered her body.

Iris sighs deeply as as went through Clarissa's memories. She didn't expect to be alive but fate seems to be playing jokes with her as she's reborn in a slaves body. Since God has given her another chance to live she'll make the best out of it.

Determination is seen through her eyes. Iris who's now Clarissa stands up from the ground, she looks around her and appreciates the beauty before her. She washes her clothes, hangs them to try then washes her hair and body.

After freshening up she puts on her clothes and decides to walk up the stream. She had to find the herb and go back home before dark.
