Chereads / A Kiss From Darkness / Chapter 7 - Job interview.

Chapter 7 - Job interview.

The smell of sun after rain lingered around Lilith's nostrils as she cuddled deep under her bed sheet, too sleepy to get out of bed.

"Gur Gur!" Lilith's phone rang loudly throughout the small studio bedroom, causing her to groan in her sleep.

She reached her hands towards her phone before busying the phone call but another call arrived shortly after.

Lilith Raziel frowns her face as she busy the phone call once more.

Lilith's tiny bedroom remained silent as she continued to sleep, dreaming of how amazing today would be for her.

"Gur Gur!" Another loud sound of a ringing phone was heard, this time at a slightly higher volume, almost as if the caller's rage had been transferred to the phone's ringtone.

Lilith sighs!

She had no choice but to take her phone and place it behind her ear while answering the call.

"You bitch!" The person on the other end of the telephone cursed. "It's past eleven o'clock and your job interview starts at noon." Morgana Jackson urged her best friend to get out of bed, her voice furious.

Lilith continued sleeping despite Morgan's statements over the phone. "I'm aware that you can hear me Lilith so better open your eyes," Morgan said, but Lilith did not respond.

"Wake up you bitch, unless I'm coming over to your studio apartment to pull you out of the bed." Morgana spat harshly, her words laced with anger and authority.

Lilith snuggled down under the bed sheet before deciding to contemplate Morgana's words.

'Did she say it was past eleven o'clock?' Lilith inquired, and as she got from the bed, she opened her eyes wide.

Staring at her phone, she confirmed that it was twelve minutes past eleven a.m.

"Fuck!"

Lilith instantly hung up the phone and went to text messaging, where she texted her friend.

'I appreciate the phone call. You've saved my life once again.' Lilith texted her bestie before leaving her phone on the bed as she walked to the restroom.

Lilith Raziel was saved almost three years ago by her gorgeous best friend, Morgana Jackson, and Lilith has vowed never to forget the assistance that her loving friend provided to her.

On the night Lilith had escaped Mr. Felix, she found herself being chased by individuals in the forest and as she had walked towards the open space that the wall created and she could vividly recall that a skeleton-like figure had said 'Hello, little mortal.' And after the skeleton figure had spoken, he sealed Lilith's lips with a kiss and as Lilith screamed, the bone from the skeleton pierced her tongue, making blood gush through it.

Lilith could recall that when she was given birth, her voice was fine but her sight wasn't, but after she awoke to find herself inside her hospital, she strangely began to see and her voice became bad.

In her confused state, she ran out of the hospital but since it was her first time seeing cars with her two eyes, she became confused as she halted in the middle of the road, her anxiety taking over her.

Just as Lilith thought that her life would end when she saw a red car coming towards her, something miraculously happened.

Just as the car at full speed raced towards Lilith, a few inches away from her, a young lady in a waitress uniform ran towards Lilith as the lady pushed Lilith towards the side, the car hit the lady, prompting her to become unconscious and the lady was none other person but Morgana Jackson.

Ever since that day, the bond between Lilith and Morgana has become extremely strong because Lilith believed that it was quite hard for an individual to see a friend who would willingly give up her life just to save her.

Lilith, on the other hand, learnt to read and write, as well as sign language, in case she ever needed it.

Exhaling!

As Lilith entered the bathroom, she discarded her nightgown and pushed it outside before turning on the shower, letting the water freely fall onto her ginger hair.

Lilith exited the restroom with a little white towel wrapped over her chest.

She grabbed her phone, which was lying on the bed, and switched on the screen to check the time. It was already thirty minutes after eleven o'clock.

"Fuck!" Lilith cursed under her breath as she applied ointment on her, before deciding to open her wardrobe where she grabbed a pair of black skirts and a white long-sleeve shirt.

Lilith had been saving the clothes for her interview, and as she picked them up, she quickly wore them and stared at the mirror inside her room.

"I'm pretty," Lilith said within herself.

Lilith has been unable to speak since the accident, but at least she can see.

Lilith had promised herself that she would find out what was going on, but for the time being, she believed it was best to focus on the interview.

Lilith grabbed the black handbag that Mogana had borrowed the night before, picked up her phone and placed it inside before breathing loudly and leaving the room.

She hails a cab and informs the driver of her destination by typing on her phone, and after that, she sits down inside the car.

Ten minutes later, Lilith stepped out of the cab, paid the driver and then turned around to admire the beautiful company that was right in front of her.

The company was big and beautiful. Its beauty was mesmerizing and just by staring at the building alone, Lilith couldn't help but hope that the job interview goes well.

As Lilith wore the handbag across her chest, she smiled and with that, she stepped inside the building.

The first word that managed to escape Lilith's inner voice was 'woah'.

Inside the company building was more beautiful than anything any other thing that Lilith could ever imagine.

Inside the company was filled with individuals walking from one end to another and they were dressed in a different type of office uniform. The individuals were elegant as they walked while keeping their heads up high.

As Lilith continued to observe her surroundings, she felt her phone beep inside the bag.

'Have the interview started?' Morgana texted Lilith.

'I just got here.' Lilith sincerely replied before placing her phone back inside her pocket.

She went straight to the lady standing behind a desk in the lobby.

'I am here for the job interview.' Lilith typed on her phone as she showed the lady.

The lady arched her brow, astonished to see Lilith typing on her phone rather than talking to her.

Despite the lady's surprised reaction, she swiftly masks it with a smile. "Can I see your credentials?" She requested for security reasons, expecting Lilith to not hear her because the lady assumed Lilith was deaf and dumb, but to her amazement, Lilith heard her.

Lilith opened her bag and took out the small credential she had been able to secure two and a half years ago.

She showed the lady, and after a time, the lady handed Lilith's credentials to her. "Go down that lobby, and press for the third floor when you get inside the lift." The lady explained.

Lilith typed 'Thanks' into her phone with a heartwarming smile.

"You are welcome, and I wish you luck." The lady uttered, prompting Lilith to walk away.

Lilith did as the lady had told her. She proceeded down the lobby, entered a lift, and hit the button for the third floor.

After a while, the lift door opened with a beep, urging Lilith to exit.

She saw a man dressed in a suit and, as she hastened her steps, waved her hand at him to gain his attention.

Lilith typed something on her phone and showed it to the man who was patiently waiting for her.

"Sir, could you show me the road that leads to where the interview is held?"

The man nodded after reading what Lilith had typed. "Can you hear me?" He inquired, and Lilith nodded her head.

Lilith has met several people over the years who assumed she was deaf and dumb when they first met.

She used to be upset when people made unexpected assumptions, but now that she was used to it, she doesn't mind it.

"I believe the interview is about to start." The man declared. "Just take a right turn, and there you will see individuals waiting to get an interview." He elaborated.

Lilith thanked the man with a bow before hurrying away.

When she arrived at the interview location, she spotted more than fifty people who were seated and waiting to be interviewed.

Lilith took her seat and then calmly waited for her name to be called out.

While waiting, Lilith glared at a lady who was in charge of calling out the names of those who wished to be interviewed while staring at a book. She was calling out names of people who had applied for the interview.

Lilith could tell the interview was quite hard because most individuals who stepped out of the interview room always had a grimace on their faces.

Only a few people had smiles on their faces, and Lilith sincerely hoped she would be one of them.

An hour had passed when Lilith's name was called out, Lilith entered the interview room, gripping her purse tightly.

She spotted a man in his late twenties wearing a black suit and sitting on an office chair with a cold expression on his face.

"Take your seat." The man spoke to her in a rude tone.

Lilith bit her bottom lip as she took her seat, smiling at the man.

"So what can you offer this company if you were to be hired?" The man questioned her.

Lilith stared at her phone and began typing the response. "If I am given a position here, I will work with enthusiasm. Commitment to my workplace should be my top priority and I'll make sure that I'm diligen..."

"What the hell are you doing?" The interviewer inquired, his tone chilly and inflexible. "You are in an interview and yet you are pressing your phone while a question is being asked?" He continued, rage crashing through his veins.

Lilith jerked her head sideways, pointing her hands to her throat.

"Hummmmmmm."

Lilith had opened her mouth to speak, but because no meaningful words came out, she hoped that it would alert the interviewer of her inability to communicate.

"You can't speak?" The interviewer questioned Lilith, his eyes wide open with surprise.

Lilith nodded in response to the interviewer's question.

He scoffed.

"If you can't speak then there's no need for you to be interviewed." He began, his words perplexing Lilith, who arched her brows at him. "This company doesn't give jobs to those who are disabled or better still those that have special needs." He uttered coldly.

Lilith couldn't believe her hearing, so she stood up from her seat.

'So you're attempting to...'

Before Lilith could finish typing what she had to say, the interviewer smacks his lips and shakes his head sideways, as if disappointed in her.

"Step outside, Miss," he muttered, glaring at her coldly. "You're not qualified for this position." The interviewee added.

Lilith glared at him viciously as she stormed out of the interview room.

As Lilith made her way towards the lobby, she began to digest what had happened.

"Fuck it! I have to teach this man a lesson before I leave." Lilith thought to herself as she turned back angrily, unaware that she would run into the man who was causing her misfortune… the man behind her being mute.
